The other Ferengi ships have those, but the Nandi is Epic Phoenix box, and the Quark is a lockbox ship.

You can get all of those from your 'Summon Trade Freighter' device you get early on int he story, but there's a long cooldown there.
The Amarie also has that, but that's a promo/Mudd's bundle ship. There's also the freighters - they're not fighting ships, but I believe it's possible to switch from your main ship to them in sector space. Look for the Tuffli or Suliban Cell ship on the exchange for those.

For a cannon-sci ship, here's a good guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/loqwgv/gyffredinedds_guide_to_dew_focused_sci_part_1/

It can be a bit expensive to build, in terms of real $$, but I flew this back in April for a bit and it was fun.

On the DIL question, I'd say yes- if you consistently do Admiralty you should start somewhat ahead of the 8000/day refinement amount. If you slip a bit, you can usually make it up by running the regular event and doing endeavours.

I don't know about extremely careful, but yeah it help to prioritize a bit as you build a nest egg of refined DIL.

Yes, I know I'm old, get off my fucking lawn so I can yell at these clouds.

Basically all your early dill should go towards ships. Find a build that you like the basic idea of - beams, cannons, etc - and look up what the must have ship traits, consoles etc are. Ask here and we can give you a shopping list.

Tldr is that whatever you end up wanting as your long term goal you probably want a presidio and an arbiter as your first T6 ships as those are mega useful traits.

Hoard your dill and buy zen when you can and wait for a T6 ship sale. They happen every so often, usually a pretty steep one at Christmas worst case. Think we just had a 25%.

Napkin math it should take about four months of daily dill to get enough zen for a ship at non sale prices. If you’re farming you can cut that down.

Sorry I meant to say a cannon focused boat or science power focused boat. Sci boats can use any weapons but usually all their power will in in Aux so weapon damage will be lower then a full power one.

Presidio has All Hands on Deck which is a very good cooldown reducing ship trait. It's still solid these days even with so many other cooldown reducing traits.

Speaking of cannons, I seem to recall someone earlier in the thread saying certain kinds of cannons were a trap. If I build a cannon boat, do I want duals, dual heavies, quads, or wide arcs?

It's the single cannons that have a 180° firing arc that are a trap. They just don't trade off the power for firing angle that cannons-to-beam-arrays do.

Fred- I don't know if anyone shared this with you, but as you start to go down the road of trying to optimize our ship, DPS League is usually the best, most straightforward way to start (r/stobuilds is ok, but I find their formats for posting builds unreadable at times because they don't just post a screenshot of their space skills or bridge officer skills).

For example- here's their 'state of the art' Beam Build: guide: https://www.sto-league.com/beam-ships-in-the-current-century/

This is more oriented to people looking to spend $$ on their builds, but you can pick through it to ID trends and directions for what to build, and as long as you don't try to obsess on the universal console recommendations you can do most of a budget build reading it.

A few additional notes when reading:

1) I think a few people here have mentioned- you probably want to stick to Beam Overload for the time being, as opposed to Fire at Will for a starting beam boat
2) I'd suggest ignoring the BOFF species recommendations in the article- that's a thing that really only plays in to the toppest-of-top end builds

3) You'll see the term Aux2Batt and A2B appearing here, and I don' know if anyone here went it to it much lately. So maybe worth going over here. Aux 2 Batt refers to a strategy devised early on in the game by players to reduce BOFF Skill cooldowns, which maximizes the uptime of skills like beam overload or attack pattern beta, maximizing your DPS and combat effectiveness.

Aux 2 Batt more specifically refers to an Engineering BOFF skill 'Auxiliary to Battery', which dumps your Aux power in to your weapon/shield/engine power for a bit. That doesn't, in itself, do anything for cooldowns. BUT- enterprising young players discovered that there are Technician Duty officers who, when put on active duty, reduce BOFF Skill recharge time when you activate Aux 2 Batt, turning that very niche boff skill in to a critical build component for a lot of players.

Key to this is to get 3 of those Technician DOFFs at the purple/very rare level. You can grind them out doing colonization cluster missions, but I think you can also find a few on the exchange or buying them from the Duty Officer cat-man at the Academy too. Drop all 3 in to your active space DOFF section, put the lowest level of Aux 2 Batt in your engineer seating, and A2B to your Spam Bar, and you're done :)

You'll see sometimes references as well to Aux2Batt and Half2Batt as well. Early on it was more common to run 2 copies of A2B to maximize its cooldown impact- that was 'full' A2B. Now, it's a lot more common to run 1copy (half2batt) and rely on other secondary cooldown options. One easy option is to use the Photonic Officer skill on one of your science BOFFs. Another is to rely on Space Traits or Reputation Traits to help with cooldowns...I believe the trait Chrono Capacitor Array used alongside a Half2Batt gets you pretty close to the max cooldown reduction most players can manage.

Now- one downside of A2B is that it does cause your Aux power to drop to nothing while using- so Science skills and science ships basically can't use it. But as a Beam ship, you don't care :). Also as time has gone one, more effective or at least more preferred cooldown options have been created- improved versions of Photonic Officer, buying a very populat Lobi Store trait called Boimler Effect...but one nice thing about A2B is it's very cheap now to build around. You don't need any special ship traits or anything.

Anyways- happy hunting!

Meh. I wouldn't say it's worth saving up dil to trade for zen to get. I'd say priorities should be EWC (arbiter/kurak/morrigu), a firing mode extension (withering barrage for CSV, entwined tactical matrices or redirecting arrays for BFaW), and SIA if he wants to try sci builds. If you need a z-store cooldown trait, Calm Before the Storm is the better option.

That's a good idea. I've heard that the Hirogen T5 escort in particular is still quite solid.

Jem'hadar characters start with a T5-U version of the attack ship, but I think you would need the crossfaction flying to unlock it on your main.

You should just need to master the ship on your JH character. Though unlike some other ships, you have to pay dil to buy one for your other characters. But it's like, 10k max, i don't recall exact numbers.

Cross-faction flying is only for Fed/KDF ships on the opposing faction.

That's not correct. Cross-faction flying is for any ship once you have a klank that hits 65. There are some early T6 Jem'Hadar Vanguard ships that have to be unlocked by hitting Mastery 6 on a Jemmy, but that's because they were the weird early experiment. Everything since then is unlocked from the jump if you have a KDF-65 in your roster. That means you can buy a rom warbird for your discovery captain to level in, or stick your Jemmy in a legendary defiant.

And CFF is not just for T6 stuff. All the lower-level ships are unlocked for purchase. The only real value is for filling up your Admiralty roster.

This is why dil farmers have a gazillion alts, and why the dil situation isn't getting better in game. Any actual playing of the game will give you dil much faster than you can refine it.

Yeah that's on my main and I use 4 toons total (Fed/Jem Fed/KDF; 65) (KDF Temporal Agent, 22) but only my main is grinding reps and TFOs and it adds up quick. Plus the main has a ton of admiralty cards and the admiralty system pumps out Dil but I don't want to invest in cards for the other 65s so I can really only get about 2k daily each from the 3 alts.

I'm about halfway to a Z-Store ship and I managed to work my EC up to about 340mil. Gotta figure out where to get most bang for buck for my first kitted T6. I only have Bajoran Interceptor and Temporal Battlecruiser right now.
