Agreed, a huge amount of my epic stuff is from vanguard. The quality and plentitude of proxies out there has basically doomed the hope of GW ever relaunching epic.

Not a huge tragedy, but I'd love renewed support and interest. That said, the rules as is are pretty solid, only thing I'd ever think to remove is the blast templates. The only real chore in the game is spacing all your stands out so you don't get obliterated by arty.

Having not played it before (but with every intention to go EA30K after plagueworld) I've wondered about artillery. The BP table goes up to 12pts but there only seem to be a small handful of things which go over 3BP.

I'm thinking it's more common in "mainline" EA?

Virtual Russian
Sep 15, 2008

3BP is the most common, 6BP is rare, but usually constitutes a heavy artillery battery, 12BP is mostly orbital assets or something else of that scale.

Keep in mind that you combine BPs in a barrage. So that 6BP heavy arty is usually 3 2BP units firing. Mostly I don't care for BP rules as they use blast templates. If you don't perfectly space out your guys they get absolutely murdered by barrage weapons. This does effect tactics though, so my complaining isn't totally justified.

Am I wrong in thinking that Gorkamorka was just 'standard NM with the inclusion of vehicles' plus the nutty Ork themetic stuff like random bionics and so on? (that wouldn't be something you'd use if you played Revolutionary Gretchin, Diggers or Muties, anyway)

My thought was that the inclusion of vehicles would make a larger, 6'x4', table necessary for play, whereas the current Necromunda you can squeeze it into smaller play areas.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Edit:

And Eldar Corsairs for Kill Team. That one leak from last summer is still going strong, so expect something Chaos for them to fight against - probably human cultists of some type.

4x4 is a little tight, but you could do a version of Da Chase or the Dark Future rolling road. I would be shocked if that isn't at least one, if not the main type of scenario they do.

Or it could just be Ash Wastes! versions of the current 50+ or however many scenarios there are.

Holy poo poo 3D printing makes Specialist Games viable in a big way.

In just this month I found another semi-local Warmaster player, printed an army, and three other friends are printing armies.

I'm never looking back to the bad old days of sourcing 10mm figures from Europe, getting hosed on Ebay, or finding that new purchases are +/- 2mm out-of-scale.

And A.Titanicus is infinitely more viable when you remove Forgeworld's flaky stock levels and surprise discontinuing of pieces.

I had always assumed it was really about the money from the "printer go brrr" memes, but so much more it's the accessibility.

It's the closest thing to going back to 2003 for cheap BGF ships and Epic figures. Like, I'll take the hassle of supports and plate tetris over obtaining physical figures any day.

My god, the Skaven are actual bullshit. I was basically top of my league before they ended it(four more people wanted to join) and I didn't lose a single game. Throw the ball to the gutter and then laugh laugh laugh as I horseshit my way to the goal line. The shambling undead player was straight up seething that he managed to kill all of my linemen and blitzers and I still managed to dunk on him twice (at that point my Gutters had block too so it was just not a good time for him.)

Anyway, I bought the Khorne team and cut my finger open while assembling, which feels somewhat ominous, does anyone have experience playing them? I kind of want to be a joke opponent this next league where I just REEEATTACKATTACKATTACKATTACK the whole time, like a annoyingly tuned AI, but I would like to occasionally pretend I'm still playing a football game.

Floppychop

I experienced something similar in my current league as Skaven.

I had ,3 gutter runners, a linerat, and a thrower on the field. Everyone else was KO'd or injured. His kickoff landed in my end zone and I still got a 2-turn TD. Joke was on me I guess though, because a T15 foul killed my thrower, and apothecary rerolled Dead into Dead.

I put dwarves and Skaven in the same sort of "pub-stomping" category. They play so radically different than what most new players are used to so they end up feeling overly strong. If a player knows how to stop them they're not a big deal. Like in the same league a Khorne player knew how Skaven work so he focused all his early turns on injuring gutter runners, he succeeded and won because of it.

The Khorne team is hilariously difficult to use. They are substandard at playing the ball and they are turnover machines due to all the frenzy and no Block. They are also fairly slow and their players are expensive.

If they get good Block dice they can be absolutely devastating.

Going for an unusual build for my Chaos Renegades this season: agility and running-game play, rather than bash. Biggest goal is a Dodge/Two Heads/Break Tackle Ogre, which will be dodging at a base 3+ rerollable, with BT turning it into a 1+. Sure, it’ll take nearly 40SPP, but the ability to do so is too much for me to not try.

Got to have a teaching game against Amazons today - mostly helping my opponent, who has not had good seasons thus far, with how to approach things and think out his turns a bit better. Plus I got to demonstrate the fun stretch play of throwing a 1TTD by handing off to my goblin and tossing him from the centerline.

Finally, here’s a goofy leak.

One trick that I have found very useful for keeping all of your printed minis in scale is to have a single figure that you drop onto any build plate as a comparison. A friend of mine bought a model from hero forge and I use him as my scale figure to figure out if the models I'm printing need to be scaled up or down.

Once you have an army that you have printed and you are happy with pick one figure or row of figures from that army and compare all other models that you purchase to print against them. It's a great trick. 😉

There's one on Thingiverse I downloaded called Sgt. Scalesby or Sir Scalesby, something like that, that comes in pretty handy when rescaling figures.

My friend demo'd AT for me and I battletech for him. In the end, we both agreed that it's basically just an issue of price (and variety). AT mechs are much better detailed by fairly expensive and there's not much variety in design, and Battletech is less detailed, with worse models, but there's everything from "this is a tow truck with legs and arms what the gently caress" and "what is this weirdly feminine pod with guns for hands".

Next week he's gonna demo me Epic 40k so I may get to play it, he has all of the original nids.

You can make AT cheap as hell by using titans made for Epic 40k for both sides and just buying the rules. You can go one further and use the titans Vanguard made for their 3mm line and adapting the ranges.

Honestly, the new AT starter is pretty well priced for entry, even more so if you can get it at a discount. I've seen it go for around $110, and you get the rulebook, all the tokens, two Reavers, two Warhounds, and a couple of knights. Grab a Warlord off ebay for like $70 and you're in for under $200. Is it as cheap as Battletech? No, but it's a better game IMO (admittedly I haven't tried Alpha Strike, but goddamn, I hate filling in bubbles on mech sheets.)

The other thing to take into consideration with AT is that the models are expensive, but with one notable exception (hey there, Reaver titan legs) they are by far the most satisfying models I've ever had the pleasure of assembling. Building a Warlord is an absolute joy from top to bottom.
