No, it's the words. Check back through this thread from when Volume 8 was coming to a close. Erin's coming back from the dead, there's all out war between the drakes and the gnolls, god's are getting dunked on and the origin of skills was revealed, and by far the most comment from fans of the the story was "wow, so many more words in this chapter".

It's both, we mention the words because they're able to write that much and still keep it engaging. Which I realize is a contentious claim in this thread, but it's not as if they're spending 75% of the words describing a dewdrop on a leaf or something; there's always something happening and at minimum it's coherent, and more often than not, it's also compelling. To me, at least.

But it's easier for readers to just post "wow x words" and, unlike pirateaba, leave the rest implied.

At least in this thread, we're posting about that out of bafflement at the sheer amount of writing being done.

People like that because she's a great writer and more words means more great stuff to read. If it weren't good nobody would be excited for her larger wordcount.

We also get ridiculously concerned about her because she has the tendency to go overboard and spend way too much time and mental effort working on her story sometimes.

Yeah it gets tiresome to get into the same monthly loop of several of us defending it then other people jumping in to talk about how glad they are they've never read it

edit: ANYWAY just finished, it was a good chapter that explores Pisces' feelings now that he's somewhere safe and away from the horrors of Chandrar, and his bonding with Numbtongue was sweet. Erin is great as usual and it's a good idea on her part to try and make Pisces into the person that everyone thinks of when people talk about "The Necromancer", but I wish he'd gotten to speak with Erin privately this chapter. There was just the right amount of dealing with the aftermath of the Ailendamus stuff and that's a mighty impressive callback there with Ryoka's idea at the end. I am interested in seeing where this plot goes and I am interested in seeing more of these characters that I like so much and I would love to read several tens of thousands more words of goblins composing theme songs and immortal wyrms putting on sock puppet plays.

I don't have the time to read a 10 million word story that goes up like 50k words every week. Stephen King's entire bibliography is about the same length and he did it over almost 50 years, Sanderson has only done 8 million in 17 years. The story is too big when I could read literally 50-100 other books that I haven't gotten to in the same time

Every time I think about recommending TWI to someone I start to think back on those OG goblin misery porn chapters. At the time it pretty much killed any desire to read the series for six months, and even when I went back I just skipped/skimmed most of them. I guess it just feels foolish to recommend something, but with caveat to ignore 500k words of it in the middle. :serials:

I don't like Wandering Inn, but would still recommend that anyone who enjoys web serials give it a try through at least the whole first "book." I think that someone is more likely than not to enjoy it if the basic premise is something they don't dislike.

I'm not up to date but the wand Argue is referring to is on Hedault's page on the wiki:

Living Wand: A classical wand made from Ironwood, and powered with the Seed of a Ten Thousand Years Old Tree as it's Core. It enhances any Mage’s ability to cast Spells immensely and it cannot be exhausted. It can also allowed the user to feel the enchantment buried in objects, by boosting the Mage’s connection, and even their focus.

After finishing binging Worm, I'm kinda feeling something more easy to digest. I've also just finished the latest Cradle book and kinda want more wuxia fightin' goodness.

Anyone have any recommendations along those lines? Not Beware of Chicken or Forge/Threads of Destiny, please. Kindle or just posted online are both fine!

For Wuxia: Cultivation Chat Group and... hmm, lots of lesser options, but let's say I Shall Seal the Heavens.

My personal recommendation for feel good reading is Threadbare, a LitRPG but not Wuxia.

For something in between, there's Ave Xia Rem Y, a relatively standard Wuxia except for two things. 1, the MC is a doctor, so not as much fighting as usual. 2, the MC is a reasonably decent human.

The Last Ship in Suzhou is trippy (by authorial intent). So while I like it, I wouldn't recommend it for someone looking for something "easy to digest."

If you’re looking for wuxia that’s easy to digest, I would just reject web serials entirely (oh no! nrook had abandoned the whole premise of the thread!) and read Legend of the Condor Heroes. It’s a formative work, a fast and fun read, and the English translation (of the first part) is good.

Been awhile since I read it, but if I remember right, he's trying to hunt down the people who flattened his home town and killed his dad (I think they're from the Storm empire or another continent or something along those lines) and he thought he'd find a lead at the Blazing Phoenix Sect.

The murderin' jerks he's lookin' to murder are all whatever the strongest introduced tier of cultivation is in Ave Xia Rem Y, so he needs to get a lot stronger too, but I don't think that's part of the story the MC is telling himself even though it's probably why the author has kept him at the Blazing Phoenix Sect so long.

Yeah this exact issue is the biggest problem Ave Xia Rem Y has right now. They just did not setup the long term goal very well, when he was with his Father it was fairly straight forward, become a Doctor like his Father and every smaller arc could be put in context of that goal.

After the city is destroyed it took several Arcs before we the reader were told The Plan. So we have the MC just doing stuff with no context which is not great.

The goal as it has been stated is to take down the General.

The general is one of several currently locked in a forever war for control of the Storm Dragon Empire, the MC has joined the Eternal Flame sect because it is currently trying to keep that stalemate going. However there is a in progress fight for the next generation leadership of the Sect so the MC joined to both get stronger and tip the scales to the side that does not want to keep the Storm Dragon Empire divided.

It took like 3 sub arcs to get any of this information and it was not via the MC planning or learning any of that, it was from a third party explaining what they had figured out of the MC's plan to the MC.

Just baffling.

Tried reading The story of how a Cultivation Universe was Conquered by an Interstellar Weapons Platform because it sounded fun but good lord the writing is bad. It's too bad cause there's a really fun story buried somewhere in that mess. Anybody read anything sorta like this but without the 14 year old vibes?

Current AK arc feels like all the other plot that came before was a prelude to what is happening now, very cool evolution of the story that feels natural. Like I just finished a trilogy of books and the sequel trilogy launched a week later.
