Thanks! Lune and I have been getting a lot of love for that series, even on Reddit of all places.

There is no way they're somehow missing it, it covers an entire wall. It really probably isn't there on consoles. Which is baffling because you'd think the massive influx of players and karak azgaraz would have provided enough funding for A patch on consoles by now. They are two major patches behind at this point. Did they do daily gifts in december on consoles at least? If not there is probably some infrastructure issue they have to work out to get the board synced up daily or something. Or they're really lazy.

I was thinking of making a basic concepts/Nightmare-readiness type video but if Lune & Co. are gonna do something like that, it'd probably be higher quality from them, so.... any word? Like I know there was the Combat Basics video but I'm talking more basic things like Roger Dodging, when to use heals, how to fight Stormvermin, Quit Using Your Goddamn Guns For Literally Everything, how to not waste your rocks when building a weapon collection -- things like that.

A Roger video went up just today, and the Basic Combat video actually has a ton about fighting Stormvermin in the blocking and dodging mechanics. Correct me if I misinterpret, but a lot of the rest of that stuff strays away from the bottom line pure fact and gets into specific play styles or tricks that require specific gear or some level of accumulated e-wealth. We really don't want to do that because our series is aimed specifically at newbies and they need to be able to apply the tips they get immediately, otherwise it gets forgotten quickly.

Things like efficient dodge count and weapon push levels are nice to know but I think you're talking to people with a higher level of dedication/intensity than I'm looking at. This game reminds me a ton of Payday 2 in that there is a shitload of depth and 0 effort at all on the part of the game to communicate any of it to new players.

New pet peeve: The wizard who refuses to use a melee weapon on nightmare and kills you TWICE with fireball splash damage. //edit At the end of Engines Of War, when you're waiting for the boat, he REFUSED to believe you could fight outside the town, made us fight on the dock, and once we finished the event, he proceeded to solo SEVEN MORE WAVES. For fun, apparently? The rest of us just watched as he fireballed them all, then eventually ate a gas rat bomb, and died holding a grim. We let him bleed out and finished while he yelled at us in voice chat. At least this was the first bad experience, but WTF? Relentless fucked around with this message at 06:16 on Jan 10, 2017 |

I'm late to the party as the game has been out for a while, but I'm finally thinking of picking up vermentide. I've read how the loot system works, but I was wondering as a whole how rewarding it is. I'm a huge fan of games where loot is done well and that rush you get at the end of a level. Also, is the goon community still active, and as a newbie, will I be able to get into games with goons, or will I be stuck working towards endgame with pubs?

I started like 2 weeks ago, you'll be able to play with goons. The game is really rewarding, you have to work to finish some maps. It's Left4Dead with a progression system. And getting a really nice piece of gear is fantastic. But it does suck to spend 20 minutes with idiots to get a duplicate with worse traits you'll never use.

I was explaining this to a friend of mine earlier: Don't expect Borderlands. It's L4D with random gear. If the goal is just the gear you're going to get frustrated early on, though between Shrine and Contracts it's now much easier to get gear than it ever was. I suggest trying a few characters so that you can make the most of the loot you do acquire. Don't start worrying about getting perfect/ideal/rare gear until you've got at least a few extra blues sitting around you don't need. Game is a very solid melee squish-em-up with a meh to good loot system tacked on. I would say the gear feels rewarding but it only gets you so far before you quickly mash up against a Diablo-esque hunt for increasingly specific loot. EDIT: I would add that this is one of my favorite games to play, but mostly for the actual gameplay. If you're hunting That Specific Item the game can get frustrating early because you're trying to learn the maps and you may feel like you're making zero progress. Take heart: even a near-total newbie can play this game on Hard without much difficulty and that should provide you with a steady supply of, at least, greens. Nightmare is only marginally more difficult and not at all more difficult if you play with tolerant goons. Mendrian fucked around with this message at 06:59 on Jan 10, 2017 |

It's an action game first and foremost and you're not going to have a good time if you just want to see numbers go up (or colors in this case), because the items you get are very random. It does provide a lot of longevity to the game though because there's a lot of different weapon setups to try.

Lots of the weapons are also just super satisfying. Hammers and maces might not turn out as super optimal as axes and swords a bunch of times, but drat if I don't love using them anyway because the way ratmen crumple and bounce from the overhead smashes is so

I've had three separate NM games on different maps today where a sub level-40 player heard Roger spawn, then dashed over to pick up a grimoire before Roger even came into view. What the hell, people? Good thing I'm a filthy Hagbane-bow elf because good god do some of these players make bad decisions, especially when it comes to the rat ogre.

You mean the one-handed sword? There's not really a trick to it, no, just practice aiming lower or higher, maybe stand a bit further away. It's a great weapon for chopping off heads. Be aware that if you're swinging into a thick horde, even though it will stagger an infinite number of rats, it will only inflict damage on the first two, so if you're swinging into a giant horde, you might be damaging the rats off to the side, which means even if your swing is aimed correctly to hit some rats' heads, you won't decapitate them if they aren't the first two rats your sword passes through. Edit: Maybe practice with Kruber if you're having trouble with Sienna. He's taller and when I was learning it was a little easier to see and aim at the rats I wanted.

Even with the charged rapier you just hit the back I guess instead of the shoulder. Hitting with the tip of the weapon is something I have very little control over with the rats charging me typically. I'll just continue to swear by the flaming sword since its regular attacks are completely serviceable and I have bomb rear end traits on it.

After running ahead and bunnyhopping incessantly, they turn around and silently stare at the rest of the team fighting rats that came in from behind while refusing to help. You can take your pick of trying to fight closer to pubbelf and getting hagbaned repeatedly, or going at your own pace and fighting with a team of 3 as pubbelf is half a kilometer away repeatedly pinging a tome but refusing to pick it up. Finally the karma runner spawns, some choice words are typed in chat followed by a disconnect notification, you rescue the respawned elf who is now a bot, and a fresh pubbelf joins into the slot anew to start the next cycle.

Sometimes it is worth it to play the elf to avoid pubbie elves. They can be that bad. What would y'all say are the equivalents to the pubbie elf with the other characters? I occasionally run into a commandorf, but most pubbies tend to stick with the group unless they're the elf.

That's not anything close to exclusive to the elf though. It's easily my biggest complaint about the state of the game. You can win often enough just playing Hexen 2015 that shitloads of people on Nightmare have no idea how to fight with melee or how to exercise discretion with ranged.

Never leaving the ammo box during the big hold out/carry the mcguffin set peices. Makes a new strangler or gutter runner friend. Team wipes as my other pubbies leave the group to try and play hero and go save him. OR Flames the team as we let him die.
