Agreed. I'd never listened to much of their stuff, but this album has motivated me to change that

Just saw AJJ for the first time tonight and god drat do they put on a show. Two guys with a double bass and an acoustic guitar somehow got a mosh going. Also scored that press of People... that has Stormy the Bunny printed on it.

Did they play for loving forever? The one time I saw them I had to leave about two hours into their set because I had work in the morning.

Exactly one hour. And they played all of People who eat People followed by a mix of Knife Man and Can't Maintain.

Apparently this local booking agency is giving out free tickets to a Joyce Manor / Wavves show tonight if you RSVP by a certain time, which I did, so that'll be dope! I saw Wavves last year with Best Coast and Cherry Glazerr and they were rad.

Jesus. Didn't know he died.

Depressed got the major ones. A few more I'd recommend:

Days N Daze: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0dUnoecoZ0
Ghost Mice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEiMkG5p2-M

As for the AJJ show, there are a lot of songs of theirs I now appreciate more when you see Sean in person belting them out in person. I sort of liked "Linda Ronstadt" before, but I absolutely loved hearing it live with just the two guys.

Oh I forgot to post about it but I saw Brand New at a festival Saturday night and they were loving excellent. I'd only seen them once before in 2007, and while I don't remember much of that show in general, I don't remember it being particularly impressive. This time was, though. They played a bunch of Science Fiction stuff which all sounds fantastic live, as well as some old favorites. I'm still sad they're breaking up next year, but I'm real thankful that I got to see them one last time before they do.

I saw Wavves on the first leg of this tour and they brought it. They were at the Triple Rock which was the perfect size and layout to enjoy them. And the new stuff translates really well live. I was really unsure about You’re Welcome at first but it’s up there w Wavvves and Afraidof Heightsfor me. I’m really glad they’re able to be independent and not rely on a label, they clearly benefitted from that change.

My biggest regret was getting into FIDLAR and Wavves a week after they were at the 7th St Entry together. It’s a tiny space and it must have been insanely fun. But I kinda made up for it by seeing FIDLAR there later in the year and getting into the local scene from their openers, Frankie Teardrop and France Camp. Both bands RIP but sadly Frankie disbanded last year, RIP.

Francecamp.bandcamp.com

I also saw FIDLAR there again twice when they played two shows w METZ. That was insanely fun, I was soooo loving bruised up. Got to chat w Max when he was out for a cig. France Camp opened the first show, and I have a good relationship w those guys. I gave them a bunch of cookies to give to FIDLAR, and the next time FIDLAR was in town in a much larger venue, Zac recognized me and called me out as the dood who gave them cookies. Love FIDLAR and v happy to have their logo tattooed on my knees.

I went to the show and it was dope. It was the first day Culture Abuse had joined them on the tour and they had just put out this song with Culture Abuse that day too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di8Yk-HH3Vw

Wavves came out in Halloween costumes. Nathan was the grim reaper, Stephen was a baby in a diaper with a rattler and a baby bottle, Brian was in this BDSM gimp suit and I forget what Alex was. Nathan and Stephen had this running gag where Nathan kept trying to get the baby (Stephen) drunk. It was hilarious.

The setlist isn't on setlist.fm, but they played a lot of stuff I wanted to hear. I have no complaints about a free show that ruled :v:

The hookah lounge in town is starting to get better shows, which is welcome. There used to be a great scene with lots of cheap shows (once saw Avail, Casualties, Bouncing Souls, and like 5 PA bands for $10 at the VFW), but it just died in recent years.

Jesse put out a statement, and although I'm glad he said he was sorry because Louis CK sure as gently caress didn't, he didn't really directly address what he was accused of. He was just like "I have problems and I worked on them and sorry for hurting people." in general.

I cant find it but I read an article that redid Louis C.K's apology so it was actually an apology.

And Jesse's read like it used it as a template.

I like my brothers take on the situation.
"So the band was supposed to break up next year? Makes sense he would lose interest when it turned 18."

I guess the underage girls things is little surprising but everything else ie is manipulative, uses women for sex, isn't very nice etc are all exactly the type of things I expect from the young man who wrote Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis, Sic Transit Gloria and all the other wonderfully creepy Brand New "love" songs.

‘Sic Transit Gloria’ is about how he unwillingly lost his virginity at 15 to a prostitute and it broke him and gave him terrible views on sex.

My friends this blows hard. I was LITERALLY sitting down at my desk going “Man this Louis C.K. is awful, he’s one of my heroes, I love guys who don’t shy away from the ugliness of life. This is such a bummer, I’ll put on my favorite band to cheer up!” *youtubes Brand New, google pulls up trendy by Brand New searches, reads article, walks around outside with headphones plugged into nothing for a while*

It makes me wonder if the lasting impact of the world’s biggest musicians would be lessened by the Internet. Would we idolize the Beatles or Bowie this much if all their awful creepy poo poo had had the Internet?

We’re seeing something similar with Bill Cosby in Baby Boomers having to acknowledge he sucks likes 20 years after he mattered but reach of music and it’s messages extends way past the cultural barriers of comedy.

I guess Michael Jackson and his poo poo was just the preface to 2016-2017 “everyone cool is a douche”

So many people from that scene/era were likely creepy fuckwads. I worked at a magazine for a while and oh boy did I hear stories. I also grew up in the tri-state area and played in a band who opened for a band that blew up around 2006 in the pop-punk scene (holy gently caress were they atrocious dogshit) and the singer was aggressively trying to gently caress my girlfriend who was working at the show. That was an all time low point in my life.

Yeah, one of the guitarists from New Found Glory is in actual legal trouble for this exact type of thing. He had sex chats with teen girls on chatroulette or omegle or one of these things and got popped for kiddy porn. From what I understand the statute of limitations has passed for Jesse so he just gets to say sorry and move on.
