I'm in Canada and already tried the Discords and other stuff. Zero luck, we get little supply and it's hoovered up by scalpers using bots. I can't take off work to camp out at Bestbuy for the possibility of getting a single card out of the 20 one store might get, once a month. I've heard it's better in Europe and the US now which is awesome but up here it's still terrible. I've queued with eVGA, got an order in with a Canadian retailer that has gone nowhere and I have no idea what to do anymore. It's beyond frustrating. I keep trying to force myself to love playing games on a console but I grew up a PC gamer and that's what I prefer primarily.

Memory Express in-store waitlist got me a 3070 albeit after 8 months of wait. No money down but you have to go to the store physically to get on the waitlist. Discords were the way to go back in November but they're worse than useless now. Could try importing if you're willing to pay the extra.

I guess I will try importing from Europe or something and take the hit on exchange, I just need to find a vendor there who will ship to Canada.

I have a couple of 1080tis that have been great and still work for games. I play at 1080p so no big deal, it would be nice to see the raytracing games. And I could really use a new graphics card for rendering 3d models, but I just feel it's wrong to pay so much above msrp. So uhhh any idea when the 4000 series would drop? I've practically given up on the 3000 generation, and besides it's probably better to keep the money on hand for any medical emergencies... Hell I think I can stretch these cards for another year

Late 2022 is the current best estimate; I wouldn't be surprised to see it slip to 2023 before anything is actually available in quantity. (for relative definitions of "quantity" given what we've seen with this generation, lol). NVidia has something else in the pipe for this fall but it's expected to be only workstation cards.

Can someone give me an explanation for why graphic cards are still so loving expensive despite there being increasing supply?
|
# ? Aug 11, 2021 22:04 |

Because the supply still isn't enough to meet demand, so lowering the prices would just be leaving money on the table.

Otakufag posted:Can someone give me an explanation for why graphic cards are still so loving expensive despite there being increasing supply? increased cost of materials/shipping/chip shortage would be the normal answer. its cause companies are greedy and don't care about consumers is the real answer. they know people will buy cards no matter what the price.

But here in my country I've seen most cards sitting in stock for months and the only cards sold are the ones that appear on lightning sale and stuff. Wouldn't it be wiser to sell them at a more reasonable price but move inventory stock faster?
|
# ? Aug 11, 2021 22:27 |

The store might have bought the cards from their resellers at an inflated price some time ago, and they might be losing money if they sell them now at the lower price. They might be hanging on hoping for some suckers.

# ? Aug 11, 2021 22:34 |

But wouldn't it be better for the store to move supply at a slight apparent loss instead of sitting until heat death?

Maybe if poo poo was vegetable or something, the rare thousand dollar electronic that millions of people want is gonna stay the price that brings a tidy profit. You might might MIGHT see a discount at the end of the year IF demand is zero and IF there are enough unsold units to represent a potential tax burden for a retailer.

It was $100 and he was selling them for the price he bought them at. If it was MSRP then that would be what the price was. It also wasn’t scalping it was a finders fee which is different.

Sagebrush posted:too bad we banned that scalper who was getting several cards a week to goons at 150 over MSRP huh lol He sold maybe two 3080s total, one of which was his used card for inflated prices after he bought a 3090 from the LTT store thing. $1150 for a used 3070 is hardly a good deal. $1,000 for a 6700 XT? I get that he hooked you up with a 3070 at an inflated price, but he was a total jerkoff who filed a chargeback with his bank over a forums purchase after bilking goons for PS5s and AMD cards. That thread was for flipping AMD GPUs for $1,000+, not hooking up goons with MSRP + $150 deals. Maybe people that feed into high-demand product scalping (as in the people buying into bot pools, not necessarily the people that gave up and bought scalped cards), botting/selling game accounts, and brag about how they're not paying taxes on any of their garbage income methods aren't actually good people?

On a related note, I'll probably be seeing my notify for a 3080 Ti come up with EVGA in another few days based on current queue progress. Could obviously be next week still, but I'm about 30 seconds away now. Originally I was going to use my 40% discount code on it... but that expired, so now it'd be for full MSRP minus the associate's code. I had gotten 3090 FTW3 via step-up, but it's still new in the box because I've been busy with life stuff and haven't even played games recently and thus haven't wanted to swap it in. So I've been tempted to either use the notify for a 3080 Ti and sell the 3090, or keep the 3090 and offer someone the 3080 Ti. Unlike He Who Does Not Remain, either card would be for cost + shipping if anyone is interested, because I'm a dirty leftist who doesn't care about adding a

Easily the biggest favor a goon has done me and nice to deal with, so it was sad seeing him go into an inexplicable self-destructive butt spiral instead of chilling out a bit and keeping his side-hustle in SA-Mart. I think he was a good person but the F5'ing tragically drove him insane.

Is there anyway on NVidia cards to check what transmission rate the HDMI 2.1 port is running at? For DisplayPort, GPU-Z tells you the amount of lanes and their bandwidth, but no details for HDMI. Are there any other tools or some secret NVidia stuff to do that?
