It's a conscious choice because it's a parody of the Simpsons. So how does John K spoof bad animation? Crazy hosed-up keyframes with few in-betweens, blammo. If he wanted to do actual bad animation, it would have taken him much less time and effort. Now, it is true he has become crazy old coot and, his thing for young attractive ladies became a problem. From what I've heard, he has a lot of trouble keeping it clean in mixed company.
