This is probably one of the most butt-puckering videos I've seen in a long time. 3 dudes in a Mercedes weaving through traffic in Russia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2kEMjdiHFQ E: Here's another piece of ber-lovely driving, double feature. The cop is being a douche for obstructing traffic and brake checking, and the dude who's filming is tailgating (less than 1 second following distance) and does a massive overtake on the right way too close to the Volvo in the middle lane. The entire video makes my blood boil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HROigWi-CcU KozmoNaut fucked around with this message at 15:54 on Mar 20, 2013 |

I used to see the same as that Russian traffic dodging pretty often when I lived in Melbourne. Crazy poo poo. There are a lot of tryhards in Shepparton that attempt the same but that place is tryhard central so it always ends in their fullisik rides getting crunched, or a couple of very cranky police rounding them up. That place, honestly. If you want to see a car accident you can just pick a busy intersection or just a street in general and wait for a bit. The people seem to have a weird disorder where other people are invisible to them. This also includes when they are just pedestrians. Seen plenty of cyclists hit, people just slowly rolling into each other like in that video from China? People parking on roads, pulling out without looking, crossing roads without looking etc. It's absolutely insane!

Apparently started because the guy filming had signaled him to pull over with this lights prior to filming. Impatient drivers and arrogant LEOs are a dime a dozen, so I suppose it was inevitable.

I've seen it a few times in the past two years, but not nearly as much as the carb days. It's definitely possible that those guys in Japan had no idea what they were doing, though. I think if they run out of gas the pumps dry out. It's mechanical in design so it doesn't draw excess electricity and also doesn't keep pumping in an accident after the engine quits. So EFI or carb, if you run the system really dry, you need to kick it over a bit to get the gas pumping again.

Do they really use mechanical fuel pumps in EFI cars? I would think electric pumps would be much more efficient.

Legdiian posted:Do they really use mechanical fuel pumps in EFI cars? I would think electric pumps would be much more efficient. Yes and no. You need high pressure for the actual fuel delivery, electric is better at that. BUT you also need volume and that's where the mechanical comes into play - mechanical pumps are better at volume and lifting fuel from the fuel cell / tank. So you commonly have one mechanical pump to flow volume into the surge tank and there's a bunch of electrics that pressurize and flow fuel to the injectors. Usually you need multiple electrics as the electric pumps just cant flow the voloume needed for the entire motor - so thence you do say one electric for one cylider bank, and another for the other. The engine in question would take a bit to fully fuel prime, given I'm guessing it's surge tank / fuel delivery system is bigger than usual racers It's kinda odd to seem them using aerostart but eh, could be a few logical expalinations outside of the fuel system. Very high compression engines do take some work to kick over, even with EFI, might also be a factor

Well, not really. Anything requiring really high pressure uses a mechanical pump. Direct injection, and diesels for example. When it comes to electric pumps you can make somewhere around 1200hp and run 80+ psi at the rail using dual bosch -044s. For more that that is when people want to start looking at mechanical pumps. Also, the flow rate of a standard electrc pump drops off really sharply with pressure. So if you've got, say, a surge tank and a bosch main pump, you'll probably only need the stock in-tank fuel pump to keep the surge tank full. jamal fucked around with this message at 20:05 on Mar 23, 2013 |

There's a cultural thing, too. NASCAR is increasingly moving towards "have at it, boys" where they slap drivers harder for whining about the problems with the new car than they do for blatantly intentional hits on track (and I mean the ones that go well beyond 'rubbin is racin'). Race drivers have been yelling at each other since the dawn of time, no matter what series you're talking about.
