The thing about the FT is that their head of data is a tech bro grifter who's done things like write an article claiming that he'd proven Spain fell behind on industrialisation because it didn't have an optimistic outlook based on Google books stats for the word "progress" in the 17th century, so it's incompetence as well as malice

It would be extremely cool that capitalists spent the last century staving off crises of over-production through a combination of automation and enforcing globalisation only to have a major communist power beat them at automation and clog up the global market valve and intentionally drive the rate of profit into the ground though.
