The Mini Medal location is so perfect, definitely my favorite area in the game.

Veronica off-handedly mention that Phnom-Non had new goods in it's stores after beating Dora-in-Grey, but I didn't see anything. Is that true or did I miss something?

I was in the high 20's for that fight and yeah it was still super hard, so I can't imagine any lower. But there are Liquid Metal Slimes that I found with those slug guys that could help, but I imagine they can appear in any group.

My team was Eleven/Serena/Erik/Sylvando. I would recommend getting off Kabuff, the harp skill of Serena that weakens fire damage and Erik's skill that puts the Earth sigil underneath her to damage her before she moves ASAP. This way you're buffed and at least doing some damage before she takes away your entire party. Sylvando knowing Hustle Dance with whatever Charm boosting accessories you got felt absolutely critical. I would honestly say you could replace Eleven for Jade since she still does more damage and has more HP than he does, but I didn't cause I'm stupid. I also wasn't sure if I had anyone who could remove Charm so you're already doing better than me.

This ability is so freaking valuable. I just finished a fight in Act 3 the one in the same place as Dora-in-Gray and completely dunked on the boss because it and its minions’ debuffs/controls wouldn’t do a thing. Also great for spider boss.

Serena is seems to be very underrated compared to Rab but her abilities are amazing, especially on hard mode.

Rab's just as good. The Dirge pep ability can put bosses to sleep, even the ones that are immune. I didn't discover this gem until act 3 and wish I had discovered it earlier. Would've made some earlier fights a bit easier on hard.

Serena is really bonkers alongside Sylvando though, if you aren't going to overlevel in Act 3 then those two were pretty much the centerpiece of many of my strategies. Sylvando has some really busted stuff too beyond hustle dance but that's for another day.

Speaking of, what should I be focusing on for Sylv outside of Hustle Dance and his Whip Attack +5/10 skills? His other tree just seems to have stat ups, which are fine but like, is this 25 point Whip skill worth it?

e: also im guessing that Eleven's dual wield is in his Luminary tree? or no? I've been focusing on getting Miracle Slash and such, but now that I'm about to get a second Falcon Blade, dual wield sounds rad

That's Amore is a single-target attack that scales with Charm and will, if you gear Sylvando for max Charm (which you should probably do; he's not a very good fighter or offensive caster and it makes Hustle Dance better too) do reliably good damage and has a chance to Paralyze. From there, obviously it's worth it to grab the big +Charm nodes.

That's amore for damage. Gold toss in the lower right hand of showmanship is really good aoe if you can spare the 1k cost. Have a ball + metal weapon is an okay metal slayer. Knife stuff is good too if you use Erik's knife setup.

Dual wield for the hero is in the sword tree, top question mark. It kind of sucks though so fair warning but you need to go through it to unlock sword dance anyway so shrug.

It only duplicates items equipped / in your party members inventory before the end of act1(or maybe even snapshots their inventory when you first zone into Arboria). So really the most useful things you can dupe are Jade's Belle accessory and maybe a few of the cards like shield bearer / assassin / trickster. I guess you can put all your stat / skill seeds into their inventories too.

yeah but you can get a falcon knife earring as soon as you get the magic key. though getting a second copy of that jade accessory was kickass

I just loaded up my party with bunny tails and uniforms. Steal is useful and all but killing stuff and regularly getting 2-3 chest drops reduces the need to worry about robbing enemies. If you really need to get a (rare) drop from an enemy, it's probably better to just build up Erik/Jade/Hero for Hallelujah. Especially since you can use it to get 2-3 bunny tails per fight and jack up your drop rates while not worrying about stealing for most things.

Zurai posted:

I have had two sets of Robbers' Gloves and whatever the mid-act 1 headgear is that boosts stealing success rate glued to him for all of the game and by the start of act 3 I rarely have too much trouble getting a steal from enemies.

Also this. Two pairs of +3 robber gloves is a flat 10% steal boost, with another 3% from the headpiece. Early on that is a ridiculously huge boost to your steal rates, and the Erik/MC pep up that robs enemies has a chance to steal rare drops at his normal steal rate (but as I mentioned before, there's abetter pep combo).

Erik also gets a unique accessory in Act 3 that gives a slightly bigger boost to item drops than anything in the game, plus that annoying jackpot quest gives a unisex waistcoat that boosts item drops. This is the scumbag way to maximize item drops.

Does getting those items to +3 improve their effects even more or just boost whatever piddly stats they have? I assumed it's the latter.

There's endgame-viable versions of some of the cosmetic gear that have higher stats, but it would've been really nice for them to unlock costumes permanently once you assembled the pieces a single time.

I feel like some of the character design is pretty boring, even by the relatively subdued standards of some DQ games. Serena's probably the best example; she has a really tepid personality coupled with an uninspired design, and (Act 3 spoilers) when the game pulls a thing that makes her cooler and more interesting, it loving takes it back for the postgame.
