Honestly the only people on the list who would be outright bad inductions are Andersen, Lynch, and maybe Bettis. The backlog is stupid big.

Yeah, I've always been a big hall guy, and they put a loving punter in last year, so whatever, put almost all of them in there, bigger halls are better.

It is one of the most fungible positions in sports, he's only involved with a tiny handful of plays a game, and there are like 50 linemen who are deserving and who were way more important to their respective teams than he is who are not in.

They can invite like, Warrick Dunn and Clinton Portis and Shaun Alexander

Mort should really make it in but not over more deserving players, and right now there are a poo poo ton of deserving players.

I tend to favor peak value over longevity and be sympathetic to elite talentes whose careers were cut short due to stuff outside their control. I mean Sayers is in there, and Davis seems like at least as good a case to me.

I'll step up for Morten Andersen. The guy was the gold standard for his position for a very long time and it's not like his performance fell off at the end: his FG% was 80 or better the last eight years of his 25-year career, including 25/28 in his final season at age 47. I don't know if this is the year you put him in, but he should be there.

<homer alert> Nobody's talked about him but I'd love to see Mick Tingelhoff get in. He signed as an undrafted free agent in 1962 and did not miss a game until he retired after 1978. Four Superbowl appearances, ten conference championships. </homer alert> Don Coryell should have been in years ago. Charles Haley is probably a shoe-in. I could see Kevin Greene and Junior Seau rounding out the class, although Warner getting in and then signing with Arizona would be hilarious.

Its frustrating when you have a bad one but ultimately it's still not that big an issue in the grand scheme of the teams at least relative to other positions, it's just more easily noticeable when they mess up. And over the course of a season there isn't a huge difference between good kickers and just kind of okay ones.

"Top scorer of all time" is kind of dumb when over a third of those came from extra points and there is nothing easier in all of sports than an extra point. The best free throw shooters in the NBA have a lower percentage than the pro kickers with the most extra point misses. I don't inherently have a problem with a kicker getting in but I wish people would stop throwing that stat around as if it meant anything at all. Kickers and punters deserve to have a place in the Hall, but with such a strict ballot limit it shouldn't be surprising that voters typically leave them on the outside looking in. I think part of the reason Guy took forever to get in was that most years voters looked at him and were like "yeah, I'd vote for him but I already have these other five guys I want..." They seem to save the specialists vote for truly transcendent guys with easy narratives, which is why I think they're waiting on Vinatieri before voting in any other kicker.
