some local places have advertised a Veterans Day, I think it might be because that sounds less possessive than "Veteran's"

yeah that's all well and good but I served during the war and came back a hero and made it into harvard law because admissions sucked my dick for my service experience and it was all free because of the GI bill and now I make over a quarter million a year and I'm very well respected in my profession and basically my life is won for me. I've put enough money away into different investments that I really don't even think about what's in the bank anymore, I can pretty much do whatever I want. I'm good looking and in-shape and eat healthy, and appreciate the finer things in life. I have no trouble meeting beautiful women, and I'm not looking to get married anytime soon, so it's all just fun. I'm literally living the dream and my life is amazing. Yeah I killed people, so what, ooh war crimes? Ooooh I feel so bad ahahaha no I don't. Oh some nerds think i'm "immoral" bicth I don't give a gently caress I get my dick sucked still for my service by people who are more important than you'll ever be. lol abloo bloo I hope no one hates me because I did unspeakable things in the war oh no wait the truth is I will always get free poo poo and thanked for my service and will be thought of with reverence by the vast majority of everyone everywhere in this retarded country! It's so true! Holy poo poo I could be president one day if I wanted! Ahahahahahah I'm going to continue to make money and not give a gently caress because nothing matters. There is no god and when I die I won't even know about it, so basically what I'm saying is Mission Accomplished, op success. The last 15 years is the best thing that's ever happened to me. USA #1

I'm kind of torn here. I enjoy the free meal, but really despise the cult of hero worship that revolves around veterans. I'm sad that people I know died, and I learned a lot a valuable life lessons in the military. But we didn't defend this country from anything. I fixed helicopters that exploded brown people because...Jesus/9-11/Hearts and minds. If I had defended San Diego from the Mexican Onslaught or pushed back the Canadians at the battle of Niagra Falls, then I could feel like I defended the country. We're so hosed up...oh well at least I get a free chicken pasta dish at Applebees... Thanks for the list.

I cannot wait until Remembrance Day () is over, the amount of lovely assemblies this week that ostensibly are about honoring those who gave their lives but are actually just glorifying war and rewriting history is driving me nuts. I swear to God I can remember this holiday being about dead soldiers, not about how we fought in Afghanistan as Peacekeepers for our FREEDOMS

I will come to a time in my backwards trip when November eleventh, accidentally my birthday, was a sacred day called Armistice Day. When I was a boy, and when Dwayne Hoover was a boy, all the people of all the nations which had fought in the First World War were silent during the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of Armistice Day, which was the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It was during that minute in nineteen hundred and eighteen, that millions upon millions of human beings stopped butchering one another. I have talked to old men who were on battlefields during that minute. They have told me in one way or another that the sudden silence was the Voice of God. So we still have among us some men who can remember when God spoke clearly to mankind. Armistice Day has become Veterans' Day. Armistice Day was sacred. Veterans' Day is not. So I will throw Veterans' Day over my shoulder. Armistice Day I will keep. I don't want to throw away any sacred things.

In my opinion Veterans Day/ Remembrance Day should be called Military BJ Day and veterans can line up behind government made glory-holes to receive their blowjobs with the catch that the booths are closed off so it could be anyone blowing you, that way the veterans are (maybe confused) but happy and Joe Public is happy because he secretly "got in out" for the military he loves so so much.

At least I fish mine out for poo poo like that, though I admit I usually forget to even consider getting discounts when he's not with me unless the business actively advertises it. I can understand military wives using military discounts if they can get them, though. Moving every 1-3 years is hell on typical careers for those that are trying to have them (especially with the month+ delays with moving that often happen, overseas moves, etc), and for the ones that aren't and are just sponging off the guy... well, it's his money anyway. But I get active duty and vet people not wanting the same discounts to apply just to spouses, too, and generally don't care either way if a store does or doesn't honor dependent id's the same as vet and AD id's. Otisburg posted:military reverence without context or proportion is super fascist and dumb. Bullshit military lipservice is one of the few things that makes my blood boil. "Oh and thank you for your service" makes my husband politely say thank you to their face and roll his eyes in the car, because it's not sincere. It's just automatic pandering bullshit.
