Poor Piett

So they turned the TIE Bomber into a downscaled Assault Gunboat? So does the actual Gunboat exist? ....Probably would have been more useful with an Ion. Replace one of the lasers for it? Hmm.

Sadly no gunboat. However gunboats do already have ions. They are pretty much the same load outs as ywings IIRC in xwing vs tie fighter.

New challenge suggestion: I Am Thrawn Don't get Pellaeon killed, please?

I'd say that Tie Defenders are quite decent at anti cap-ship work (like X-wings, Tie-Ds have torpedoes). though I never end up using them on a small scale to compare with Bombers. Losing Piett though, ouch. PoptartsNinja posted:An Earth Shattering Kaboom - Destroy an entire sector with the Death Star. For bonus challenge - a CORE sector.

So what composition are you using for your assassination squad? 1 main character and 2 noghri decoys, 2 of each, ...?

Something else I never understood in this game: Which stat is used for what mission? Well most are obvious, but especially for incite uprising I don't know if it is diplo or leadership or something else.
|
# ? Aug 8, 2016 15:51 |
|
IIRC incite/subdue is just plain leadership. sabotage is espionage & combat together, assassination/capture is combat only and recruitment is leadership only. All those are modified by the target character's combat and/or the planet's loyalty. Supposedly research is slightly boosted by just the number of relevant facilities on the planet. Combat and espionage also have roles in resisting capture and avoiding enemy detection so those stats have indirect benefits on most missions.

does this mean we can look forward to a planet exploding to make up for the loss of Piett?

Asmodai_00 posted:does this mean we can look forward to a planet exploding to make up for the loss of Piett? err, constructing a Death Star is no mean feat. IIRC it costs 500 in maintenance points alone and a single shipyard will take about 2000 days to finish it. The only way to build one in practical terms is to wait until you research advanced shipyards and build 10 of those on a planet somewhere, preferably on a secret base in the galactic rim so the enemy can't find and sabotage it. I'm not saying we shouldn't build one, I'm saying doing so is bloody expensive in time and resources.

Might as well, if this was a run to show off the basics. I mean, the game practically handed you Luke and Leia.

so they actually were on Bespin? Fancy those odds... I mean artificially prolonging the campaign would probably feel too fake? But I don't like it.

Oh for gently caress's sake. I want proof, not leads! Seriously though, if you've found a rebel planet in the galactic rim then the rebel hq is no doubt somewhere nearby. My default setup for finding the rebel base was, once the core's most stressing problems were fixed, to build or use 2 galleons fill them each with 9 probe droids and send them to 2 sectors on opposite sides of the galaxy. Really made it feel like that opening scene from Empire with the probe droids pouring out of the star destroyer. Only with a more disposable craft. double nine fucked around with this message at 22:20 on Aug 9, 2016 |

Say what you will about Rebellion's merits as a strategy game, but I'll always have a soft spot for it letting me build like 200 Dreadnaughts for my own Katana Fleet challenge back when I was a kid.

The base is pretty slippery on average though, I've definitely played more than one game where I've lit up the galaxy in green/red because the final objective was on the last unconquered planet of the last unconquered sector.

I have to say that I was surprised by the number of characters and ships that came from the West End Star Wars D6 that were used in this game. And speaking of, one possible challenge you could do is to only use characters and ships from canon works, which I believe are only the movies and the various tv series, though I could be wrong. No idea how feasible it would be, though.

Can you even research the important things with this challenge? I guess you can simply bombard everything down and don't need to worry about ground troops, and upgraded buildings can be replaced by having more buildings. But especially the Alliance can't cope with only having their starting ship tech. Who are the fleet researchers for the Rebels?

All their researchers, except for the super researcher and one facilty, are indeed canon. Ships: Wedge and Ackbar. Troops: Madine and Reikan Buildings: Lando and Karrde. For imperials, it is harder. Ships: Thrawn and Klev, Troops: Veers and Covell, Buildings: Villar and Orlock. Thank god for Rebels giving me a ton of good new cannon stuff I can use like the interdictor, rebel escort carrier and Thrawn
