Huh. Funny how not having a conference championship game can make the same date seem more like a mid-season game than a late season game.

I'd say I'm especially excited for the Tech game, but I can't loving wait to see how we play against every single conf opponent next year. Nothing seems certain anymore.

They've fallen off over the past couple of seasons, but they're still perfectly capable of putting a scare into you. Could definitely get interesting with it being so early in the season against a young defense.

Since we appear to be doing this, have a Texas schedule:

quote:

08/30 North Texas
09/06 BYU
09/13 UCLA (at JerryWorld)
09/20 OPEN
09/27 @Kansas
10/04 Baylor
10/11 Oklahoma (at Cotton Bowl)
10/18 Iowa State
10/25 @Kansas State
11/01 @Texas Tech
11/08 West Virginia
11/15 @Okie State
11/22 OPEN
11/27 TCU

Pretty standard fare, except I suppose that long stretch without a bye week could hurt us. UCLA at JerryWorld is a nice OOC game, it's practically a minor bowl game really. Also like BYU being scheduled early. Boy do we ever owe them a whooping.

I just realized that, if Texas happens to be ranked toward the end of this season, we are totally going to get leapfrogged because voters have short memories and the last 3 weeks of the season we have open week, TCU on Thanksgiving (when everyone is watching NFL), and open week. Oh well.

I've always kind of wished that the NFL would do a game with All-Pros vs. the players ranked lowest at each position. I mean it could never happen for so many reasons but I'm curious what the final score would be.

I agree with him on Cole... He's (at least right now) very much a traditional pocket passer, dead accurate, but not really mobile other than the ability to get back to the line or maybe a yard or two. Granted he hasn't been in a whole lot, but I think he's sitting at something like a 75% completion rate.

Chad Kelly I haven't seen enough of. Except for that god damned music video... I've seen enough of that.

I find it amazing that Nebraska had a backfield comprised of the top producing QB in it's history, the second leader rusher, and Rex Burkhead, and wasn't able to accomplish anything. Maybe it was because when Abdullah and Martinez were on the field at the same time there was a 118% chance of a fumble.

Still, having a somehow completely under the radar 1700 yard rushing running back returning is good news.

This schedule is harder than what MSU had this past year, but their hardest games (UofM, OSU, Nebraska) are at home. It's going to be like this for the next couple of years where MSU will face those three either all at home or all away, so 2015 and 2017 may suck.

He's good in man coverage, but he's woeful against the run. His inability to shed blocks from wide receivers/fullbacks contributed greatly to a lot of our trouble with outside runs.

Baylor's Schedule

Aug. 31 - SMU (Breaking in the new stadium, whoo!!)
Sept. 6 - Northwestern State (Yawn)
Sept. 13 - at Buffalo (Start a 3 game road trip with what should hopefully be an easy game to work out the jitters.)
Sept. 27 - at Iowa State (We don't play well in Ames, but ISU has some work to do)
Oct. 4 - at Texas (If we can play on the road, I feel reasonably good about this game. Lots of question marks with Texas though, until we see how Strong puts things together and what the QB situation is like)
Oct. 11 - TCU (TCU always plays us tough lately, but I have no loving idea what to expect from TCU 2014 other than that it's probably not going to win the conference)
Oct. 18 - at West Virginia (I'd like to get that first win in Morgantown)
Nov. 1 - Kansas (Homecoming, Kansas, Blowout, Bye)
Nov. 8 - at Oklahoma (I'd really like to get that first win in Norman, but this might be the toughest game of the regular season)
Nov. 22 - Oklahoma State (Usually tough, but loses a lot and isn't playing in loving Stillwater, so I feel decent here)
Nov. 29 - vs. Texas Tech (Jerryworld can be fun, though I'd really prefer to just make this into a home-and-home again. Curious to see how Tech's D develops, because their O will probably be good enough for most practical purposes)
Dec. 6 - Kansas State (Oh, how I would loving love for this to be the De-Facto Big 12 Title Game.)

I feel fairly optimistic about Baylor Football 2014 - though our brand-new secondary, and cornerbacks in particular, are going to be an adventure I might not enjoy. Anyone who tells you our offense is likely to take a huge step back is full of poo poo. Petty's back, we're swimming in WRs and RBs, and we've still got good experience on O-line. They'll keep us in plenty of games next year; it'll be on the defense not to revert to 2011/early 2012 form.
