Yeah he went from likeable knockout artist contender to SHUT THE gently caress UP really quick. Fightpass could dedicate a whole collection of videos just to Hendricks being a baby after losing that fight. I wasn't sure if he actually beat Lawler in the fight after that but I was pulling for him to win just so I wouldn't have to listen to him cry and because I knew that Lawler would still be the more interesting fighter and able to deal with losing a fight.

-Atom- posted:How did you view the decision on the rewatch? I've been meaning to check it out again but my memory of that one was that Johny ripped up GSP as far as damage and wobbling him but GSP's point game was what raised his hand for the decision. Live I had it for Hendricks but after the decision was announced I could see 48-47 GSP. (Rounds 1, 3, 5) So on the rewatch Round 1: Close as gently caress, still not sure who won, pretty much a coin flip. After the round Hendricks' corner is telling him they have one in the bag, I have no idea how they came to the conclusion the he definitely won it. Round 2: Everyone remembers this round for GSP getting hurt but honestly about 4 minutes of it are GSP boxing the poo poo out of Hendricks. I guess giving it to Hendricks would be correct because he had GSP in trouble but honestly you could give it to GSP. Round 3: GSP boxes him up more. One of the big themes in this fight is that Hendricks will throw a huge haymaker, early in the fight he land some and later on he lands less and less. Everyone gets distracted by the haymaker but misses GSP slipping it and then cracking him with 2 or 3 shots on the counter. At the end of the round Hendricks gets a takedown and Rogan starts talking about how maybe Hendricks won the round because of it, which is dumb. Clear GSP round. Round 4: Clear Hendricks round, but not nearly as dominate as I remember it. GSP slips (though it might have been a slick trip by Johny). He is on top for a little but GSP does a good job tying up and doesn't take any big shots. Hendricks lets him up. I don't remember what happened after but Hendricks definitely won it. Round 5: Hendricks is either tired or taking the round off because he thinks he has it won because his corner and everyone else involved is dumb except for John Danahar who understands what the gently caress is going on. GSP is the agressor and wins an uneventful; round. So in conclusion, 48-47 for either guy is acceptable, even if you give Hendricks round 1. 49-46 GSP is also possible because you could give him everything but round 4. Hendricks and his corner are acting like they have it in the bag when if you're paying attention the fight is razor close. Some things that make Hendricks look better then he is: 1. He's smiling and his body language make him look really confident. He also stays unmarked even though he gets hit more then GSP. GSP's face is hosed up and honestly he almost looks like he doesn't want to be there. 2. The classic "guy does better then you expect so he must be winning". This is double true against GSP, who hasn't done anything but dominate other then about a minute against Condit since loving August of 2007.

I've been meaning to check it out again but my memory of that one was that Johny ripped up GSP as far as damage and wobbling him but GSP's point game was what raised his hand for the decision. GSP had been dominant in basically every fight he'd had for years, and sometimes when a fighter does better than expected people get excited and think he must be winning the fight. This is my view of the Hendricks fight. Since GSP had to settle for outstriking and outgrappling him, instead of dominating him as he'd done to everybody he'd fought since losing to Serra, people believed Hendricks was winning. I rewatched it just now with the audio muted to eliminate the commentary, and it looks way better for GSP than it did the first time I saw it. With respect to damage, since I'm not relying on Rogan to yell "OH HE'S HURT" and actually watching the fighters' reactions to getting hit, GSP hangs a lot of damage on Hendricks that I think people missed because (A) he doesn't bruise or cut as easily as GSP, whose head is like a ripe peach or something, and (B) he always tries to play it off like it didn't hurt. I don't have an official count on how many times he grins and shakes his head after eating a hard shot that snaps his head around and stops him in his tracks, but it's probably more than 20. There's a particularly bad one about 90 seconds into the fifth round where GSP lands a hard one-two, and Hendricks is like, "This grin should tell you that you can't hurt me. Now I'm going to sort of stand here doing nothing for about 20 seconds while you hit me more but I'm definitely not hurt" and then he gets beaten up, taken down, and from his back cries to the ref about GSP holding his shorts, when GSP is visibly not doing that.

Here's a funny/depressing fight. Sammy Morgan vs. Forrest Petz, UFN 6 It's the only UFC fight ever scored 30-23, meaning two 10-8s and a 10-7 (or possibly two 10-7s and a 10-9). Basically Morgan gets dropped a half dozen times but Petz makes no effort to finish him and the ref lets it go on. At one point Morgan appears to go clean out, like I'm pretty sure his eyes rolled back, and Petz and the referee just wait for him to get up. Rogan shits all over everyone involved in the fight. Morbidly funny stuff. Of course one of the judges scored it 30-27. The Duck of Death fucked around with this message at 17:02 on Sep 5, 2014 |

People were upset about the decision because Hendricks looked really impressive in the rounds he won and GSP didn't, plus the shock of seeing GSP hit a lot and taken down swayed a lot of people in the same way Jones vs Gustafsson and Shogun vs Machida did.

Yeah the rounds that GSP won weren't very convincing whereas Johny had 2 really good rounds. I think some of the bellyaching afterwards was undeserved and Hendricks had no right to bitch when he even admitted he took rounds off, but I still think Hendricks deserved the win.

BEATDOWNS Everyone likes a good, competitive fight. But sometimes, I just want to see a dude get his rear end whooped. Especially when the dude doing the whooping is a trained violence machine. Here are some good beatdowns. Note: I will not be including PRIDE mismatches because it would take to long. Just watch pretty much and Wanderlei Silva or Crocop fight against a Japanese dude. Wanderlei Silva vs. Rampage 1 http://www.ufc.tv/video/wanderlei-silva-vs-quinton-jackson-pride-final-conflict-2003 The wet dream for the dudes yelling KNEES at fighter every time there is a clinch. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tsuyoshi Kohsaka 2 http://www.ufc.tv/video/fedor-emelianenko-vs-tsuyoshi-kohsaka-pride-bushido-6 For a long time people had to say Fedor was "technichally undefeated" because his one loss was from a cut stoppage seconds into his first fight against Kohsaka. Years later Fedor is on top of the world and Pride decides to let him try and get his win back. I don't think he forgot. Crocop vs Wanderlei Silva 2 http://www.ufc.tv/video/mirko-cro-cop-vs-wanderlei-silva-pride-final-conflict-absolute I am an unabashed Crocop fanboy. Here is probably his best performance, absolutely outclassing a legendary and dangerous opponent. Mark Hunt vs Yosuke Nishijima http://www.ufc.tv/video/mark-hunt-vs-yosuke-nishijima-pride-31-dreamers A forgotten classis. Nishijima is a champion pro boxer making his MMA debut against Mark Hunt, who outweighs him by 88 pounds. A fun fight, especially considering Nishijima never stops fighting back despite the horrific beating he is taking. Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin 1 http://www.ufc.tv/video/anderson-silva-vs-rich-franklin-ufc-64 George St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn 2 http://www.ufc.tv/video/georges-stpierre-vs-bj-penn-ufc-94 If you weren't a fan of mma at the time this fight let me set the stage: Everyone knew GSP was really good. Lots of people picked him to win this fight, I know I did. A close fight was usually expected. I don't think anyone expected this. My reaction was essentially "Holy poo poo Georges " Jon Jones vs. Shogun Rua http://www.ufc.tv/video/jon-jones-vs-mauricio-rua-ufc-128 There are tons of good reasons to hate Jon Jones. I hate him probably as much as anyone, trying to warn the unsuspecting from following down his unholy path of herbitude. However, my hate ultimately stems from the fact that I can not, will not, ever forgive him for what he did to Shogun. gently caress you Jon Jones. gently caress you. Cain Velasquez vs. Bigfoot Silva 1 http://www.ufc.tv/video/cain-velasquez-vs-antonio-silva-ufc-146 I don't think Cain liked losing his last fight.
