but really it's just buttons on the dashboard, there are plenty of aftermarket units that do it and unless you're hauling a yacht or big travel trailer you won't really need a dual-zone brake controller. It's a cool looking toy though.

Yeah, I'm not there yet. Don't have anything at all to tow. Just thought it'd be a nice-to-have in case I get a boat in the next decade; which is possible, but it ain't gonna be a yacht. I'm still busy being pleased with myself that I'm getting it for what truecar.com says is in the "unusually low price" category for those options in this area. I'm paying $500 over what they say is the best price anyone's ever paid for this truck with those options, and apparently that was only one person out of about 100. I could probably do a g or maybe two better if I played the long game, but there's a serious chance I would get stuck with a 5'7" bed if this truck sells. The 5'7" is most common on crew cabs around here in anything under the Laramie trim package. I have decided I love this truck, but I'm gonna unlove it pretty fuckin quick if the guy tries to jack me tomorrow. We played the "let me call you back game" tonight on the phone and he was pretty pissed by the end of it when I got the price I was willing to pay. He actually demanded that I come in and pick it up right then. I told him I'd call him back. Then I called him back 20 minutes later and said, no, I'd pick it up tomorrrow like I said. I'm also a little relieved that is has the tried-and-true six speed on it, and an actual lever for it. That tranny was good to me for the last six years. The dial on the eight-speed is just weird. The eight-speed is also new enough to worry about a little. Further note: neither truecar.com nor cars.com nor the dodge sticker mention whether the bed is 5'7" or 6'4". This is the second dealer in the area I've worked with. The idiot rep at the first tried to tell me that the ones I test-drove with the 5'7" bed had a 6'4" bed when they didn't. She actually wrote it on the printout of the window sticker she gave me. The second time I went I took a fuckin tape measure to make sure. She said, "the code on the sheet said it was 6'4"." I told her I measured the damned thing and she just said, "oh." pr0k fucked around with this message at 05:29 on Jul 14, 2014 |

Nope. My pop thinks that sacrilege or close. But we actually occasionally use our trucks to move heavy poo poo over mud. So 4wd is a requirement in both our books but manual is a co-requirement for him. I'd actually prefer it but yeah, they don't. The 2500 has a manual available. To be fair, he also prefers manually-locking hubs. They are, or were, simpler and more reliable, for sure. But if nobody has 'em now, what are you going to do? pr0k fucked around with this message at 06:05 on Jul 14, 2014 |

Truck: got. No fuckery at all on their part. Price sheet was for $60 less than the agreed-upon price. There was usual sell of the truecoat, upholstery scotchgard or whatever all that poo poo was. The girl was pretty though and chatty about trucks and took no for an answer. And the sell of the GAP and other warranty and extended warranties and prepaid service plans and poo poo by the finance guy. Gentle no was all it took. He got a little chilly when he struck out for a few minutes, but still pleasant. Nice place in my very limited experience.

Well I love it. It drives and handles almost exactly the same as my '08 did - which is to say pretty much perfectly. Got the 5.7 hemi and six-speed that I think is the more or less the same as my '08 had. I had no problems at all with mine. My opinion is of course biased toward my tastes and needs. But the comfort of the cabin can be very nice even in the base class, depending on the interests and opinions of the person that orders the fleet for the dealer. Getting the 6'4" bed with the crew cab on a base model was a total score from what I've seen. The regular cloth seats are comfortable as you could want. On mine, I required the bench seat (not really a 'bench')with the fold-down console/armrest. Love it. My '08 had a stupid full-height console thing that was just a pain. Plenty of storage but it's just in the damned way all the time. The new one has the maplights, which you really need - some of the models I saw had that taken out to save money. Similarly some have the tow hitch and spray-in bedliner removed, so people that don't use their trucks as trucks can afford the chrome and 20" wheels on the higher trim models. Stupid trucks. Mine saved money on the trim, wheels, and by lacking sliding backglass and backup camera. I really never used the sliding backglass on my '08...it's really only useful if you put a cap on it and dog and kids in the back. I don't think you're allowed to do that anymore but that's how I traveled cross-country once as a kid. I'm actually finding the 17s look funny to me now, which is goddamn weird. The stock tires look like ok street tires. Goodyear Wranglers. Those were good back in the day, been a while since I had any, so I don't know now. The 20" Goodriches on the '08 were crappy. One blown, four scalloped. Anyway, I'm happy because 17s are cheaper to replace. Stereo and electronics are nice. Midgrade for the model, Bluetooth, voice commands, satellite, usb, aux. Actually no cd player and I don't miss it. I'm also suddenly reminded I wanted to ask: did Ford ever stop using that horribly lovely noisy power steering pump they had in the 150 from ? 1980? at least through '91 and probably later? pr0k fucked around with this message at 05:42 on Jul 17, 2014 |

all f-150s except 6.2s since 2011 have been electronic power assist. No more hydraulics = no more noise. It does do some wacky things when you're in heavy wind and stuff, but it takes the pull from road camber and such out, it's pretty neat.

Welp, I think you identified the major problem there. They weren't doing the job right. Seriously....you don't align a steering wheel that way ever (unless you are undoing someone else's screwup). With properly functioning parts there is never any reason to do this, and if you see someone suggest it as a "solution" it should tell you they are either incompetent or lazy and you should bring your car elsewhere. Unless you caused it by telling them they couldn't replace the stuff that needed to be replaced.

Canadian Tire snapped a lug stud on Slung Blade's Coronet because old Mopars have left handed studs on one side of the car. Upon breaking a lug stud with an impact by spinning the nut the wrong way until it bottomed out and snapped the stud, they then proceeded to break one more stud on that wheel and then two more on the other wheel on that side, then fail the inspection for "broken lug studs." I've seen actual tire shops pump out better quality work.

Don't know about the US, but over here I can at least halve the dealer quote just by picking up a phone. It's not always available from your auto insurer here. It was a whole $200 or 300 over the life of the loan anyway.

I have an 09 2500HD 4x4 with the Cummins. I bought 10 oil changes when I bought the truck for 340 extra bucks. So each oil change is 34 bucks on average, the truck takes 13 quarts of frickin expensive synthetic diesel oil, and you can't even buy half of what you need for what the average cost of the oil change is with the prepaid service plan, throw in a filter, chassis lube and a cab/window cleaning? Hell of a good way to waste a half day driving and sitting around in the dealer's lounge. Not all dealers do it, but the ones that do are awesome. My two local shops quoted me $130.00 and $115.00 for the oil change. I can drive the three hours total, squeeze in a trip to a decent size town get my truck worked on and still be money and time ahead than if I used one of my two local shops. YMMV.

Went by the dodge dealer after work today and they got the bug fixed and can now order the truck I want. The only problem now is the they don't know what incentives will be offered on the 2015's and there is $3000 off the 14's right now and that was figured in to the price we were going by before. So as of know it would be right at 55,500 and 62,000 otd not sure if I can justify that when we were talking like 53k before. I might have to fix and sell the outback in addition to the cop car if I want to do it. I'm going to think it over for the next week while I'm in Chicago and if I don't get murdered probably plop the deposit down and take my chances on what will be offered whenever it comes in. Msrp come in at 61,500 so it is still like 6k off before any rebates.

Just popping in to say that Canada is really Chrysler country. Chrysler is the biggest selling manufacturer this year and Ram is either neck to neck with or surpassing both the GM trucks combined. I think Ford just sells more trucks because they have a better fleet program. If you combined Caravan and Town&Country sales they would be the most popular vehicles in Canada after F-150 and Ram.

Ford's had some relatively poor truck generations but in the past several years you'd have to be a moron to buy a GM over a Ford and Ram... Just sort of does their own thing. I have owned several GM vehicles, including a truck, and they have all been pieces of poo poo. Friends and family of mine have owned many GM vehicles, all of which have been pieces of poo poo. Even in the GMs where there's no major issues the interiors are still awful, age worse than a homeless heroin junky, and are plagued by minor issues with the electronics. GM engineers know how to build a solid drivetrain and that's about it. I used to regularly drive an Escalade, thankfully not my own, and the interior was a ratty loving mess of mediocre leather, poor quality wood, parts-bin bits and pieces and the entire thing rattled and was falling apart at only like four years old. I've not yet known someone who's had any real complaints about a modern Chrysler product, especially the Ram trucks, and of the trucks on the market right now today I'd be cross-shopping Ram with Ford in the half-ton market and not considering anything but Ram if I wanted a HD diesel. The new Colorado/Canyon have me seriously torn because when they launch I'll likely be in the market for a new vehicle, I live in a region where a truck or real SUV can be hugely useful for a significant portion of the year, and since Ford killed the Ranger the closest thing to a properly sized truck on the market is either a ten+ year old Toyota with C-channel frame that likes to rot apart with drum brakes in the YOOL 2014 or a ten+ year old Nissan based off a 14-year old platform. Until and unless Toyota and Nissan get their poo poo together the new Colorado and Canyon will be the only To go back to the original point about Canadian buying habits being weird, we're sort of a crazy mix of super-redneck Texan style truck buyers and manual small car loving Eurotrash. While most of our population is near the border with America there's a lot of us further north and up here where trucks are goddamned everywhere and used family sedan style we get serious for-reals winters, lovely access roads are everywhere and in general I put more value on the tough utility vehicle preferences of Canada over the US. 8ender posted:For every Canadian that actually needs a truck in winter there's an F250 that has a tonneau cover that never gets removed and gets passed on a snow packed road by me in a 5 series with great snow rubber.
