Thank you for replying Punt. I am doing well. Honestly I think Star Trek is one of those really cool worlds that people get way too bogged down on the details. Sort of like the Star Wars EU. I just want to see goofy humans grappling with weird aliens and visiting strange planets. I don't care about how the spaceship works. Pew pew is the sound a laser would make if I fired it at all the lame-o's who like that. What are your thoughts regarding that Punt?? How are you doing??

i really enjoy watching an episode of star trek with a friend (a specific friend) and pausing every five or ten minutes and talking through the implications of the world they're portraying on screen. on some episodes like the Trill episodes of DS9, it probably took us ~70 minutes to watch a 44 minute episode. it's good.

trek is really good at hinting at a complex, alien world, but really bad at portraying it, so you have to do a lot of the work yourself as a viewer, but i find it very rewarding

I agree that thinking too analytically about science fiction can be a fools errand - creating an entirely consistent and factually accurate description/s of future technologies is a bit beyond tv writers, but spaceships, aliens and lasers and stuff are cool. Well I already answered that but honestly I do have some niggling concerns about my immediate future being at the end of my current contract and not yet being in a position to publish (other people's contributions being the parts that aren't ready as well), I've got a couple of weeks to sort something out though so I'm not letting it affect my mood just yet.
