This incident is a pretty good object lesson in the silliness of treating "terrorism" like it's one thing with one meaning. The guy was a homeless lunatic who posted a bunch of rambling nonsense about white devils on Facebook. The imam of the Fresno mosque had no idea who the guy was and it was obvious that he wasn't a Muslim in any strict sense of the word, though he clearly seems to have identified as one to some degree. But some of his FB posts were rambling mishmash about African religions and miscellaneous vaguely African occult stuff. There was one picture where he had some kind of Egyptian amulet strapped to his forehead because of course why not. Point being, to talk about this incident in the same breath as attacks by a coordinated global well-organized jihadist group (or the trainees thereof) is... flawed. The Fresno incident is the kind of "terrorism" that just can't be stopped. This was just a total lunatic and a gun. Even gun control laws (which I'm a believer in) wouldn't do much here, because the guy was a convicted felon and under CA law didn't have the right to buy or own a gun in the first place. Sad truth is this kinda poo poo is just going to keep happening and there's nothing we can really do. Pre-9/11 we just called it "going postal," now guys who would have gone postal in 1996 yell ALLAHU AKBAR when they go off the deep end and, viola, terrorism.
