At what point is America even close to banning guns? A bunch of literal kids get killed and "The left will use this as an excuse" is the headline.

Seems like a pretty generic, milquetoast statement. No real reason for outrage unless you're looking for one.

There are 3 or 4 examples itt of straight democratic voters calling to delete the 2nd amendment, justifying punching "nazis", as if they could have lasted one day on the eastern front 1941-1945, arguing that it is solely conservatives that have been getting violent in public despite that being the polar opposite of reality. And this is a moderate forum, many more radicals are out there, so what's wrong with a little reactionist defensiveness? You're not interested in calm, open dialogue so why should they be?

This isn't a call to disarm anyone who disagrees with them, it's the exact opposite. Want your own pro-gun socialist lobby? Make one.

The right-wing managed to grind the country to a halt because Clinton lied during a deposition because it was literally the only scandal they could get to stick. Remember Whitewater?

The left-wing was so pissed about the Iraq War machine that I recall loads of fear-mongering about Bush taking a third term, reinstating the draft, and destroying national prosperity forever.

The right-wing was so doggedly determined to be pissed about Obama that his presidency was a sustained 8 year freakout about how he was turning the country socialist, blaming all his problems on Bush, getting the Peace Prize despite doing nothing, and generally being what they perceived as an establishment tool. And that's way before you get into the race thing.

But no the guy with the verbal cadence of a schoolyard bully, the wardrobe of Richie Rich, the brand-name businessman whose fortune is largely leftovers from his father, who tried to appoint actual Neo-Nazis to high positions and rode into office on a campaign of discrediting media and generally acting as Napalm in the Executive Branch as spiteful revenge for every working class person screwed by the system in the last quarter-century... no that guy has nothing about him that lends to media hyperbole more than the others.

Quoting this for whatever page this is now for posterity; unironically, this is how guns work in America for anyone outside-looking-in.

Guns are basically just considered toys/assets to their owners, like sports cars, and the prices will skyrocket if a Democratic president looms, because (the gun lobby?) will make a bunch of bad noise that causes enthusiasts to panic-buy.

Despite several "Democratic Threats to the Second Amendment" (read: Obama :argh: ), nobody has ever confiscated firearms, and this sort of thing will never happen, because agnostic of what country you live in, a Weapons Export industry will be an indicator of the 'power' a country wields for some time to come, and thus a point of pride for a country and its citizens.

If this seems strange to you, just know that the above quote is a completely innocuous sentiment to hold, anywhere in the United States.

Tbh I see them more or less as sporting goods, like my collection of fishing rods and reels. While outside of a few edge cases, I don't think there's ever really been confiscation, there are certainly many laws in many states that prevent you from ever rebuying stuff once you sell what ever grandfathered-in guns you already own.

So for example, I'm going to keep the AR15's that I own because they're good quality guns and if I ever get in sport shooting again, they will be useful, but I sold this incredibly stupid AK-47 that I owned because it was incredibly stupid and I turned it into an incredibly nice fishing combo. Iirc I don't think I could buy any of those guns again new in the state I live in, but honestly once I discovered the one true religion that is bass fishing, I haven't even opened my gun safe in like a year.

And there is absolutely a quote out there from, I believe Nancy Pelosi, saying that if she had her way she would pass laws requiring confiscation, so just because they haven't been able to doesn't mean they're about politicians want too confiscate guns.
