I was considering this during my commute about how grandma's maiden name was super stereotypically Finnish. no one knows but the naming tradition goes back at least 7-8 centuries, probably longer. one theory is that it's somehow connected to the christianization of finland, with pagan names getting christianized by adding -nen after them. back then people really didn't have family names, so it's a mystery why some people were called, for example, tapio korhonen if it wasn't to tell what family they belonged in. fun fact, korhonen is nowadays the second most common family name in finland and the word korho originally meant deaf, dumb or slow. yeah.

Real question here: I love Finnish music, specifically metal. When are the metal music festivals? Do you recommend any particular language app to learn Finnish? The only ones I have found teach basic vocabulary, but not any real grammar or verbs. I love Finland, and will be going next spring!
