I can't complain about Trotz until they start sucking. And they haven't even a little so far this season.

I sometimes get the sense that Trotz loves these lovely, marginal skill level players because they remind him of his own playing days and he wants to see them succeed where he failed. Who knows.

Did nhl.tv get rid of its minute or so long delay? It seems like my streams have been similarly timed to broadcast times unlike last year.

It's weird because Orlov and Schmidt were the third pair for a bit and were the strength of the defense. Djoos and Bowey likely aren't as good as either, but they are at least of a similar mold that could contribute. Ness is just a penalty machine and Chorney can't handle the puck worth poo poo.

It's also frustrating because we have a pretty good idea of where the ceiling is for Chorney and Ness, and that's the 3rd line defensive pairing, i.e. the floor. Djoos and Bowey may be rough to start, but I can't see them being any worse than Chorney and Ness, but at least Djoos and Bowey have a chance to show something. I honestly think that Trotz is concerned about the dreaded mid-season firing given how many people wanted him gone after last spring's annual flame out. I imagine that he thinks that Chorney and Ness, while not brilliant, at least won't make the theoretical rookie mistakes that a Djoos/Bowey pairing might as part of the growth process.

Tucker Poolman is dressed in place of Byfuglien. Could be an injury for Buff or Maurice trying to send a message. Either way I'm excited for Poolman, he looked great in preseason.
