My favorite podcast is No More Whoppers, which is just Ray Barnholt from Retronauts and his friend Alex talking about life poo poo. Alex has lived in Japan for the last 10 years or so and talks about his life experiences there, so that's always entertaining. It's more like a live blog between the two of them rather than a podcast and they don't update as frequently as they used to but I think they're fun to listen to :unsmith:

I listened to 5 or 6 episodes of Last Podcast on the Left, and I had to unsubscribe. I love the subject matter, but the hosts are so excruciatingly annoying and hacky that they make it unlistenable. It made more sense when I found out they all do standup, because I've seen these types of people at countless open mics. "Oh, that joke didn't land? What if I do it THREE MORE TIMES, AND LOUDER?!"

Really disappointing. I'd even give it another chance if they would stop trying to do "funny" voices.

Cocaine and Rhinestones is a good podcast about modernish country music. It's creator, Tyler Mahan Coe is David Allen Coe's son. It's fantastic how much research he's done.

Unmentioned so far:
The Flop House - if you can deal with
Elliott Kalan's voice and want low key bullshitting. ~1 hour

Stuff You Should Know - if you want to read more Wikipedia articles but you want your ears to read them. ~45 minutes

Retronauts - Bob Mackey of Talking Simpsons and a bunch of other people, goons in the mix.

That's kind of fair, though I feel like it's been cut down over the years as they've grown into more focused and in depth looks inti subjects.

Generally I feel it's more actual accents and impersonations now, and less yelling.

Henry only starts yelling whenever he goes to into :tinfoil: mode, unless he's doing a callback to the (for some reason) popular Minnie/Nannie bit.

I listen to podcasts by people who have *dramatic pause* worked with Ira Glass.

More seriously:
-Benjamin Walker Theory of everything - this one was an aquired taste. Now I love how it is hard to tell where the line between fiction and reality is.
-The truth - Just good short radio plays.
-reply all - I mostly just like listening to the guys try to explain memes to their boss.
-sayer - I binged this. Pretty much a GlaDOS podcast.
-ear hustle
-what Trump can teach us about con-law

In Our Time is loving delightful, professional as educational. It's a BBC Radio program where each week a very good moderator hosts a discussion on a topic. Everything from Fungus to Nuclear Fusion to Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morality, with no prior knowledge required by the listener.

The best one is the chromatography episode where the guest brings in an instrument to show different colors on the spectrum.

For a radio program.

The Bonfire. It's technically a talk radio show on Comedy Central's Sirius channel but it's basically a podcast in format. You definitely can't find every episode uploaded to youtube. No sir.

Haven't listened to them in a few years, they still good? I visited their site thinking of downloading some older ones to start over and was unpleasantly surprised that you can only go through apps now instead of an old timey
mp3 download they used to have.

For me, it's Skeptoid (quality varies and latest year has gotten somewhat worse, but there are gems sometimes), Astronomy Cast on YouTube and Isaac Arthur's channel where he explores weird scifi poo poo mostly.

I don't like the UFO episodes because it's just discussion of personalities and just crazy nonsense. I almost always skip them.

How did this get Made?

I tried to listen to Polygon's History of Fun podcast and it was incredibly disappointing. It's just three hosts with no chemistry reciting Wikipedia articles. I started on the Neopets ep because it sounded interesting: Two British nobodies made an intensely popular website in the 90s only to be muscled out of their company by a Scientologist investor from LA. Said investor embedded Scientology poo poo throughout their site, expanded their usebase, then sold the site to Viacom for $150 million. Website went to absolute poo poo a few years later due to in-game currency inflation and was eventually sold to Jump Start for pennies on the dollar.

Like, no poo poo Neopets invented modern Online Content Marketing. They own a frigging patent on it. How the hell could they make an episode so boring...

I love the Bugle even more now after John "traitor to his country" Oliver finally flaked out due to some sleazy tv gig and Andy got a whole gaggle of amazing new bullshit talents to riff on. Alice Fraser is probably my fave new co-host. Weird that the show doesn't get more love here, is the only current-affairs-but-with-bullshit podcast I can bear to listen to anymore.
