I had to go to one of the chinese circus performances as a kid when I was 10 or so, which people were only going to because it featured pandas. But then the pandas weren't feeling good and we never got to see them.

My strongest memory from that period though is that's when I felt my lifelong depression kick in. Not from the missing pandas, but I was super excited to go, and then about an hour before we were set to go to it, my excitement faded and I was just filled with nothingness. No desire to go, no desire to see friends. So I guess china somehow caused my depression. Thanks China!

We do know that China has remarkably low organ donation rates and remarkably high organ transplantation rates. They have wait times routinely 1/50th that of Western countries. It probably does mean that organs are being taken somewhere, but it doesn't necessarily mean that Falun Gong organs are being taken

I mean, statistically, at least some of those harvested organs were from Falun Gong types. Along with all the other prisoners, political dissident and otherwise.

The vast majority is certainly Uighurs these days, though.

I'm glad I've never gone to Shen Yun after reading this thread. There's a tour through my city every year and I've been mildly interested because the TV ads and posters are pretty. But tickets were like $80+ or something absurd, so gently caress that. Now I'll never bother because I don't want to sit through cult indoctrination.

I felt my forehead. The dances continued, sleeves swirling, skirts rippling. A man came onstage to sing a song in Chinese, which was translated on the screen behind him. “We follow Dafa, the Great Way,” he began, singing about a Creator who saved mankind and made the world anew. “Atheism and evolution are deadly ideas. Modern trends destroy what makes us human,” he sang. At the end of the song, the row of older white people sitting behind me clapped fervently. In the final dance number, a group of Falun Dafa followers, who wore blue and yellow and clutched books of religious teachings, battled for space in a public square with corrupt youth. (Their corruption was evident because they were wearing black, looking at their cell phones, and, in the case of two men, holding hands.) Chairman Mao appeared, and the sky turned black; the city in the digital backdrop was obliterated by an earthquake, then finished off by a Communist tsunami. A red hammer and sickle glowed in the center of the wave. Dazed, I rubbed my eyes and saw a huge, bearded face disappearing in the water.

“Was that . . . ?” I said to my brother, wondering if I needed to go to the hospital.

“Karl Marx?” he said. “Yeah, I think that was a tsunami with the face of Karl Marx.”

My girlfriend wanted to see it a year or two ago so we went. And it was boring as gently caress. We've discussed it on and off ever since and have come to this conclusion:

No one likes it. But there is so much advertising for so long that it you start to think it might be good. But it's not. In fact, the only positive you see about it is in the advertising. "A must see!"

So there ya go. Now you know why once a year you are inundated with commie china dance crap. Because no one likes it but if they spend zillions on advertising maybe people will go. And apparently it works.

Most metal lyrics I've ever heard were at Shen Yun.

Something like "The Eternal Dragon rises, burning all who oppose. Live in peace or else roast"
