I like a lot of classic rock, grew up on it and enjoy dad rock radio stations to this day.

I never really got into the beatles though. I can respect the influence but that's about it. I don't actively dislike them, but in terms of music I'd actively want to turn on it's incredibly low on the list. I legit have a hard time understanding the appeal outside of like a history of music perspective, in terms of albums one might casually listen to today it feels like almost anything else well known from that era holds up better.

I always wonder when people talk about the Beatles like this, how familar are they actually with the music? Do you know these songs? I just don't get your perspective at all if its coming from someone that actually knows the catalogue. (not that these are deep cuts or anything but they're not the Main Hits). I love the Beatles because I hear something new every time I listen.

I've probably heard all their albums at least a couple times, had a friend who'd put em on p much any time we smoked together, seen the movies too. I'd take pink floyd or the doors over them for stoner music any day.

I feel like the musical output of the beatles from their inception to their breakup is so vast and covers such ground that it's hard for someone to hate EVERYTHING they did. People who think they don't like them may have only ever heard stuff like "Love Me Do" or whatnot which while revolutionary in terms of the music of its time isn't really that great today imo. But some of their stuff just still resonates.

no.
All "classic" rock means is that it needs to be from an artist that's been around long enough to qualify for the Hall Of Fame.

In other words LOL KORN IS CLASSIC ROCK.

Pretty sure it's not legal to call yourself a "classic rock" station and not have, like, at least three Rush songs in hourly rotation.

Gimme Shelter is great but its hardly a Rolling Stones song. Jagger and Richards are not really great song writers. Jagger, while charismatic, isn't the greatest singer either. All things considered, the sonic brilliance of Gimme Shelter can only be attributed to Merry "Mary" Clayton, who sings the "backing vocals". They do the same thing on "You Can't Always Get What You Want", employing an entire choir to give gravitas to an otherwise sonically thin track.

About a year or two ago my dad started driving a lot slower, listening to the beatles, and acting strange. I got really worried because I thought he was coming down with alzheimers or something, his mom had it. Apparently his doctor retired and he couldn't get xanax anymore so he started eating weed edibles.

also i loving hate that Imagine song. I mean like white hot rage every time i heart it. Imagine no beatles, there I said it

Also the argument that the beatles dont exist anymore is loving stupid
1.- They ended on bad terms
2.- Half the band is loving dead

The Rolling Stones are caricatures of themselves and 50 years laters still sound like crap live

The Beatles would have reunited at Live Aid or Live 8 if they were still alive. Is not a Pink Floyd scenerario where everryone loving hates Roger Waters

Also Wyman played a really cool bass line. Jagger and Richards are the uncoolest part of the Stones imo

The big problem with classic rock is its the same songs over and over.

the beatles are easily one of the best band ever and stand head and shoulders above their contemporaries, the sophistication of some of their songs while still maintaining catchy and enjoyable melodies is something that very few bands can achieve. The beatles are incredible compared to the vast majority of lovely rock bands, a catalogue that spans genres and eras, setting a standard that most bands couldn't hope to achieve, with more classic and memorable songs than just about any band ever. I guess Metallica goons couldn't hope to understand this though.
