I am lonely and spend most of my time on 4Chan talking about the superiority of BBC porn.
it's a very expensive option in a clnical setting but ketamine has been fuckin amazing for me and depression/anxiety if you have the means. or can lie to a vet supply store.

also if you're so inclined, psilocybin mushrooms are showing a lot of promise in mood disorder therapy.

good luck to all of u. having messed up brain chemicals sucks.

^ A friend of mine did the ketamine treatment for a few weeks when a center opened up in town this year. It seems to have snapped them out of a years long cycle of on/off depression. The kind that didn’t really ever go away, but alternated between functional and not functional. I know they had tried a bunch of different antidepressants and had tried some other therapies before. They said the meds helped dull the worst of it, but didn’t really help them feel good again, and each one had unpleasant side effects.

For whatever reason, the ketamine actually seemed to work. Last time I asked how it was going, they had been off all prescriptions (except iirc anxiety and sleep meds that were as-needed rather than daily) and feeling pretty good for about 2 months straight. No idea if the effect will be permanent, but I really hope so cause they’re a very kind and cool person who doesn’t deserve to be poo poo on by their own brain all the time.

Dandelions have been cropping up after the spring thaw. It's really fun to just yank those suckers out with my Fiskar dandelion yanker. You'd think it was ok to just pull them by hand, but they have a really deep tap root that can regenerate the plant if a bit is left in the ground. You've gotta admire the tenacity of the humble dandelion.

And then blanket spray the lawn with noxious herbicides.

My wife says I shouldn't mow yet, something about the pollinators. also the threat of frost next week, I need my grass to be nice and strong if we get a freeze. I'm really eager to try out my new mower, but alas, it seems I must wait.

Except for some of us the loving dandelions are making depression worse because the allergies are causing Lockdown V.2. Seriously it's been loving insane this year

To answer your question OP, therapy and weed

tbh everything is kind of poo poo, which is why I am very thankful places like SA exist. Here we can keep things in perspective and try to atleast joke about all the poo poo going on.

I wish I had more answers, but realistically, my mantra is to do what I can to not make things worse- to try and help where I can, since little things can mean the world for someone else in day to day life.

God dammit it would be easier to cope if it were actually possible to get a PS5. Half a year has passed and these things are still rarer than a four leaf clover.

Hell Yeah
Dec 25, 2012

if you really think about why you're not taking antidepressants, does it make sense? if you want to improve your life get on a dose of ssri that still allows you to bust and you will probably be fine and you'll be able to live your life without the specter of depression haunting you endlessly. there's nothing special about the way your brain is, actually your brain sucks and it's bullshit, and you probably need medication to live a normal life. just accept it and you will be doing yourself and the people that love you the biggest favor you could possibly do. again, your brain is not unique or special in any way, many other brains suck poo poo just like yours.

I've found that being on meds and staying on meds is helpful OP. With being on meds, I've found my sleep to be more regular, and having enough sleep reduces anxiety which leads to the possibility of better moods and energy to start behaviors that are healthier. But, to start on this, you need to see a professional, get some help, and stick with it as best you can.

I got meds in Jan 2020 and holllly poo poo thank god i did or i might not have made it past covid. Agree with all of this and I still have some sleep problems but it's better than it was. I also was not in any way outwardly depressed or like, someone most people would ID as anxious which is why it took a very long time to get help.

I find it a lot harder to get stuck in the "well" and much easier to dig up

White noise machines, my friend.

In fact, if you get a truHEPA filter with an extra charcoal layer, you can filter out all of the dust/mold/pet dander/smoke from your house and get relative peace from noisy assholes at the same time!

also, perspective helps. i had a lot of conversations with an elderly labor activist who was convinced the world and america was going to fall apart any day now in the 1970s. and his descriptions made it seem just as bad as today if not worse: nuclear war, tanks rolling down american streets in detroit, energy crisis, poverty and crime exploding, etc.

he says he was humbled by how the system kept itself together, for better and for worse, and i think we can expect much of the same in our lifetimes. tomorrow's battles will probably be more similar to today's than different.
