that and i have spent time before tracking what i eat through myfitnesspal and the like and i'll be damned if i've ever spotted anything especially disorderly (or even unusually heavy, i rarely went over 2500c in a day, and as a 310# bloke i should be losing at that range) in my habits

I used to be a 340 pound bloke. I had to eat 1600 calories a day to lose weight. When you're that heavy it can gently caress up your metabolism and the price you pay is that you might have to eat even less than an average person. All those weightlifting PRs I set I was eating 1800 calories a day.

The other thing is you might not be measuring your food as accurately as you think (get a scale) and you may be eating without even realizing.

It genuinely can take years to completely break yourself through to a healthier lifestyle and you shouldn't feel shame about false starts and missteps. If it were as easy as the words make it sound nobody would be overweight. It's good your seeing a therapist, and even if they're not a food specialist they may still be a good person for you to talk to about it, since it sound alone your weight definitely has emotional impact for you.

Good luck friend :)

I would advise against a tflc thread. I had one when I first started and it was just a constant barrage of mocking and nastiness. I did way better when I stopped posting in ylls altogether.

Personally, I’m taking the view it took me decades to get to be a fat sack, it’s going to take at least 5 years to see any lasting change.

people gave you poo poo because you kept making excuses for why you couldn't stick to your routine and for failing your toxx on flimsy grounds. that doesn't make all tflc useless. i'm not going to act like you were in a great place back then (and you seem to be much healthier and happier today so go you), so it's somewhat understandable, but your experience there is not necessarily typical.

stop going to gyms and go to the YMCA

last time i was there the other people working out were

1) old chinese men going 0.5 miles per hour on the treadmill
2) old white ladies with poofy hair lifting 5 pounds on the arm curl machine
3) a bunch of 98-pound teenagers checking themselves out after every rep
4) a man who looked like marty mcfly's dad, with BO so bad everyone within 20 feet left

it's the least intimidating place to work out imaginable

also you don't need to lift weights to lose weight but there are three main things at work

1) to lose weight, you gotta burn more energy than you eat
2) if you have more muscles your body will naturally use more energy
3) when you lose weight, you will lose both muscle and fat simultaneously (and when you gain weight, you gain both too)

so basically strength training is the best way to maintain that fat-burning muscle mass when you're eating less food than usual.

i am not a meathead bodybuilder or anything -- in fact i was one of those 98-pound weaklings most of my life. but learning the above few things really made a difference to my understanding of fitness

this is a good post

front squat best squat. I'm lucky to have the room in the garage for a full free weight setup.

I would advise that if you are taking any medications or are on HRT/blockers it might be a good idea to run any diet more exotic than "eat less" by your prescribing doctor first. unlikely as it might be you don't want to do funky poo poo to your kidneys or anything and as a bonus it can give you a bit of accountability.

That's exactly why it's a horrible place for someone with depression to post. You seem to have missed the point I was making in your rush to call out my struggles from my most depressed times.

I'm internet famous because while I was super depressed I posted bad and in high volume trying to find anywhere to fit in, and all that poo poo got linked when I was doxxed. Most yllsers probably remember me because it was a really bad period where I posted bad..
I'm not fond of remembering it, which is why I don't post there or in PSP anymore because that's where I got picked on the most, but Ciaphas has articulated struggles with depression not dissimilar from my own and I don't want to see them have the same bad experience I had.

OK, I forgive you. Wasn't trying to paint with a broad brush. It's just not a good dynamic for someone whose weight issues are rooted in depression.

Not at all. The only after effects seem to be the reduced hair. The in the moment pain was similar to having three or four hairs tweezed out per activation, i’d say (also the tweezers are quite warm). Not exactly painful but more... aggravating I guess would be the word

Mind that that’s at a setting three at the highest out of five, four was a noticeable sting and five was actually quite harsh, but different strokes and all

A home laser is not gonna hurt nearly as much as what you'd get in a clinic because the manufacturer is not gonna get themselves sued because you burned yourself. You haven't known agony until you've had a registered nurse laser gently caress your face at max power.

flipside: depression is godawful because most ssri meds make you want to eat all of the things, especially carbs. Paxil is really notorious for it.

The laser can still burn you if you do something like try to make it work against unusually dark bits of skin like moles, but that is rare it usually halts itself
