Well, 373 "official" weekend deaths. Who knows how many actual deaths they'll manage to obscure next Sunday!

The USA also just shouldered past Ireland to take 8th position in the "most deaths per capita" race and will overtake the Netherlands real soon and bump themselves up to 7th, then there's the long haul to catch up to France, and then an even longer haul to see whether they can catch up to Sweden as they both accelerate past Italy and Spain and try to catch up to the UK, and then it'll be a 3-way race to see who can finally knock sad old honest Belgium out of first place.

Poor Switzerland is languishing in a distant 10th place but should be knocked off the leader board fairly soon by Canada or Ecuador, but dark horse Brazil is absolutely rocketing up the field and might even beat them to it.

It's the world's shittiest race to the top!

It takes time for data to be compiled so anything that isn't a couple weeks old is incomplete and the only thing you coyld gather from it is if number goes up even with incomplete reporting then a spike is coming.

whatever I had back in early march was too early to let me get a test done because whatever I had wasn't severe enough, and the CDC requirement to get tested was that i had to have been in wuhan or contact with someone in wuhan in the last 14 days lmao.

yeah University of Iowa is saying (with a bunch of qualifiers) that they have significantly reduced the mortality. 99.7% survivability (if you are in their hospitals for the entirety of presenting symptoms onward)

https://www.thegazette.com/subject/...l-woes-20200604

I mean that's like Mayo only measuring mortality of Rochester, MN residents, but still, promising results

i did not have a test result bc i could not get testing done for similar reasons, but at the time i was living with my parents, it was the 3rd and 4th weeks of march, my dad got a bad case, was bedridden and self isolated with fever and all the symptoms for two weeks, and in may all 3 of us tested positive with antibodies. i have absolutely no idea when I had it since it was likely asymptomatic, but i was working in NYC until march 15th, taking the subway, interacting with the public etc., it was prolly from public transit.

ah gotcha. I should look into the antibody test, was it hard to get one?

Similar thing for me, I came down with what I'll call "a weird cold" starting the second week of march and was noticebly unwell for a solid 2-3 weeks, but not really that bad. it was definitely not a cold or flu though because my nose felt absolutely fantastic, never better actually, whereas it's always congested/runny. I think the worst part was just the awful fatigue/muscle soreness along with tight-chested/sternum tingling and just wanted to lay in bed (and not like in a goony depression way); no major involuntary coughing or extreme fever though. i work in SF and took the train/public transit every-day so it wouldn't have been that suprrising given it was definitely circulating by Feburary.

The Iowa 99.7% thing is bullshit though since it just excludes anyone that died outside of a very specific circumstance. The article also since non of thier personel have been infected treating Covid but just glosses over that thier own website says like 100 of thier employees have tested positive.

for the antibody test it was super easy, I went to a nearby medical care facility, the cost was almost completely covered by my free poverty-line insurance and i got results in a day by phone and a few days later had a paper copy test transcript. look around for whats available and see what test they use, if you call up and talk to people theyll answer any question bc its pretty much all theyve been working on for months most likely.

just pull it up in a topknot or something if you don't like the idea of cutting it, that'll keep it off your face/body and should be bearable in the summer heat

this is just my experience so like who knows

the early symptoms are rlly rlly easy to ignore. i didnt even have a dry cough realllly i just cleared my throat a little for like 5 days

i never even considered getting tested until i felt pressure on my chest

the controversial bit is i think a lot of ppl ignore symptoms then report being asymptomatic at the time when they went out. i would have. i dunno if i would hav lied or not but if we werent on full lockdown i def would have gone out w/initial symptoms

yeah i think if it wasn't for california's shelter in place order, i would have probably still kept going into work. i did take the first few days off sick then felt better the next day and went in, then felt worse the next but still went in, then the SIP hit and ive been at home since but i def would have still kept working because whatever it was was mild enough to mostly ignore. and theres the fact it just was impossible to know at the time either way, and even now with wider-spread testing it's still not convenient at all.

i had some vague what could have been symptoms but were so weak i wasnt sure like several months ago. i literally have no idea what it was and if it was revealed i had it at literally any point i would have no idea if i was asymptomatic or those were the symptoms.

also none were cough or fever.

Yes, the reopenings appear to have pulled the new infection curve back up. States like NC, Texas, California, Arizona, and Florida are starting to see record high totals day-after-day.

Hospitals are not yet overwhelmed in these states (very close in NC and Arizona) so I wouldn't describe things as hosed yet. Late June not looking so great though.
