There are almost no companies researching new antibiotics even though current ones are over prescribed and failing, because there isn't enough profit in it. There are worldwide shortage in the extremely important FAV-Afrique antivenom because the company that made it decided it wasn't making enough money.

A more powerful comparison would be the social projects (alleviating poverty, climate change research, education, healthcare, infrastructure, etc.) that could be funded instead of the dimensions of physical currency. That money could be used to maybe not force amazon workers to wear diapers. All that poo poo apparently slipped bezos' loving mind though and he can only think of rocket ships.

It is the purview of local government to tax businesses, just as it is the right of businesses to pack up and leave if they do not agree with new taxation. Amazon's success was not based on seattle city council's efforts, Amazon owes them nothing. I mean say what you will about Jeff Bezo's the fact is he took a lovely website that sold books from the 90's and now is dominating everything. What's the Seattle City Council done? Does anyone even KNOW any of them outside of Seattle? No. Then why would you think they would know better? Amazon has brought a CRAPLOAD of money to the area, they did this despite seattle's city council leeching off of Microsoft, Boeing, and Amazon. Not to mention that everytime the Seattle City Council has tried to do anything about the homeless situation has made it WORSE. We're DRAWING UP the homeless...homeless people........are actually making their WAY here! binaryjunky fucked around with this message at 17:17 on May 12, 2018 |

Is there aught we hold in common with the greedy parasite, Who would lash us into serfdom and would crush us with his might? Is there anything left to us but to organize and fight? For the union makes us strong. It is we who plowed the prairies; built the cities where they trade; Dug the mines and built the workshops, endless miles of railroad laid; Now we stand outcast and starving midst the wonders we have made; But the union makes us strong. All the world that's owned by idle drones is ours and ours alone. We have laid the wide foundations; built it skyward stone by stone. It is ours, not to slave in, but to master and to own. While the union makes us strong. They have taken untold millions that they never toiled to earn, But without our brain and muscle not a single wheel can turn. We can break their haughty power, gain our freedom when we learn That the union makes us strong. In our hands is placed a power greater than their hoarded gold, Greater than the might of armies, multiplied a thousand-fold. We can bring to birth a new world from the ashes of the old For the union makes us strong.

The power people have to organize on social media and target companies for boycotts that might change practices. You have that power. Because of Capitalism... Also, take a gander over at the history of unions in this country, it's not that they're inherently bad, they just are breeding grounds for corruption. I mean, hello the mafia controlled drat near every union in this country at one time, not because unions are bad, it's just a very easy system to gain control over and SERIOUSLY jeopardize industries. binaryjunky fucked around with this message at 17:30 on May 12, 2018 |

this is like one of those tv shows where they introduce the main character and it's a grizzled world-weary detective that drinks and smokes too much and catches his man in the end except in this case he actually destroys the evidence and lets the serial killer go even after he kills his wife and kid "that's just the way of the world buster"
