while not having done it a *ton* i think the normal setting is downstream mostly enjoying nature and relaxing. which should probably ideally not involve posting, but, eh, yospos being mostly chill and internet connections ubiquitous, could do worse~~

the way you phrased this implies that browsing yospos is the primary activity and kayaking is secondary

which is, of course, correct

I think I'm not doing the kind of kayaking you're envisioning

I was tooling around a river. The part where I saw the muskrat was this old/overgrown overflow channel thing that's like a shortcut on the river and because it's rained a lot recently it actually had a few very tiny sort-of-almost rapids but aside from those it's just a pretty wide/smooth river and I can pretty much stop paddling whenever I want (if I don't mind drifting slightly downstream)

It's not like I'm kayaking through whitewater rapids where I have to constantly paddle the whole time

I once had to get through customs and make it from the small terminal all the way to the south end of the main terminal in 45 minutes and that was the worst airport experience of my life

our marketing person who was also our travel booking person got an absolute loving earful about why you always go YYJ->YVR->elsewhere instead of YYJ->SEA->elsewhere after that one

i used to think this about LGA but i gotta admit, even though he was a total shitheel cuomo actually did improve it to the point where it's at least on par with JFK or EWR. after avoiding it since basically 1998, i flew out of there in 2018 (when the renovations were like, midway) and 2023 (done). the difference was massive both times

and those experiences vary heavily by terminal (e.g. terminal 5 at jfk is way nicer than the others), but still, it was pretty impressive for an american infrastructure project
