the democratic polling was actually fairly good, but I'm unsure if there's wonkiness in the republican side that makes it significantly more irregular.

"Patel"? Fuck you.

This is really nice, but unfortunately Hillary is around a -12 favorability right now, very far away from the typical +20 a winning candidate sits at.

http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/hillary-clinton-favorable-rating

Of course, Obama is +8 right now, and should increase that number as it gets closer to the end of his term. He's the most popular national politician in the country right now.

His endorsement and convention speech (+ Bill Clinton's and Joe Biden's), plus people comparing Hillary to Trump, SHOULD be enough to lift Hillary to even ground and win the election.

Unless America has become Idiocracy, which is always a possibility.

My gut instinct is that all of this is changing pretty dramatically, but I have no data to back that up.

I don't think Hillary Clinton's favorability at this particular moment in time actually matters. The corollary to that is that I think the same of any of the republican nominees.

Donald Trump.. may be the exception?? I don't know.

i guess that's one of the examples people who think favorables this far out from an election don't mean anything would point to

but obama's favorables will probably have a lot to do with the outcome of the election. i think his 2012 win ended a lot of truisms and streaks regarding presidential favorables, though. like i say, my conclusion is that people are just less favorable toward presidential candidates than they used to be

Soon.

I've decided I want to Trump to win the nomination because it will lead to a Democratic victory in November. It's almost the same with Cruz.

Rubio, however, is a looming threat. Anyone else worried he'll take away some of the Latino vote from the left? Imagine how easy it would be to do a Latino-friendly campaign with pictures of his beautiful family and personal stories of immigration in his family's history. We need to remember how voters think. They love that poo poo, even if it goes against their self-interests.

Chelsea is 36, has a 2 year old and is currently pregnant, and has so far shown no interest in running for political office. And why would she when she can live off her hedge fund husband as well as the massively inflated salary companies pay her (NBC News paid her 600k/per annum to be a "special correspondent"). She's also not particularly well liked, charismatic, or particularly public a figure. Considering her (future) extreme wealth, earning power, and connections, it seems more likely that she becomes a sort of Democratic power broker. Though she could probably easily become a U.S. Senator or Congresswoman at any point in the future, so who knows.

Unfortunately, we will definitely see the Bush Dynasty continue, as Jeb's 39 year old army vet/lawyer son recently became the democratically elected Land Commissioner of Texas, running on social issues and other Tea Party interests, for a position that has traditionally been pretty apolitical. We won't have to worry about him until at least 2028, though.
