Cat Terrist posted:A vastly better death than a AU deserves Piss off! An AU is a really good car. Ugly because of 'one ford' and USA Ford's design/direction. But a good car. Most economical Falcon until the ZF 6spd box came into production a few years ago. Even though the AU falcon dates back to 1998, it was the first one with optional IRS. First one with new head bolts/design to fix the head gasket issue. First one with VCT available on the 4L straight 6 in the XR/tickford or fairmont versions. Still looks decent in fairmont/xr trim, it's a design that grew on you if ignoring the 'Forte' (cheapest spec) 'waterfall' grill. Longest lasting most reliable falcon for a long time too. Plenty of BA's falling apart, while the AU was just built better and still going, e: except for that one of course Fo3 fucked around with this message at 13:28 on Oct 6, 2013 |

The AU was a loving ugly car and I'm pretty surprised the Falcon made it past that model. Didn't it get absolutely slaughtered by the Commodore for that gen? Even the XR8's were ugly as gently caress.

It's an ugly car (I never disagreed on that point), and the commodore slaughtered the falcon in sales from EA (1988) onwards. I sometimes wish the AU came out with a BA grille in the first place. The looks of the BA is what the AU should have been and it would have been a massive success if that's what it looked like IMO. After all the AU was about 5 years in development in the first place, but it only took them 2 years (and a rehash/rush job), to change it into the BA, and most of that time was developing the DOHC Barra motor. The only good thing about the BA was the barra engine and the redesigned grille/tail lights. The rest of the BA is an unreliable piece of poo poo for quality and reliability compared to the AU, as it was rushed out to fix the horrible ford USA one ford direction design that was adopted for the AU. The looks of the AU did indeed kill a lot of sales because it was ugly! Fo3 fucked around with this message at 14:02 on Oct 6, 2013 |

Here's a meaningless competition for us mortals, but still worth a watch. Bugatti Veyron Vitesse vs Koenigsegg Agera R:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj3Oo-_jecg The Agera sounds incredible. Now they just need to get their hands on a Venom GT and a SSC Tuatara (whenever it comes out) for a four way comparison.

It's easier on the eyes, performs better, and by all accounts is funner to drive than the Veyron. Picking the Koenigsegg is an easy choice. I think the hyper bug has actually been cheapened by its gotta have it status for celebs/athletes and the bajillion "special" editions that VW has farted out. On that note, they just unveiled another one.

So I generally post terrible wrecks in auto racing when they happen, and Dario Franchitti had a real bad one yesterday. He got a concussion, two fractured vertebrae, and a broken ankle, but is otherwise ok. 13 fans and an Indycar official were also hurt. TV footage Spectator view Could have been much, much worse.

Bugatti Veyron Vitesse vs Koenigsegg Agera R:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj3Oo-_jecg The way the Agera has to dump the gas between shifts isn't good. They were supposed to fix that a couple years ago, but apparently they haven't quite figured it out. I realize the Koenigsegg is a company with some crazy engineering pedigree, but their cars speak to their experimentation more than their ability to make a solid all-arounder. That shows in the amount of patents they've filed recently. Haven't seen any data on a Koenigsegg killing lap times on the Nurburgring despite plenty of mentions of it hitting 250mph on the straight. I much prefer its styling compared to the Bugatti, but the Veyron's fit, finish, and overall engineering is going to be of higher quality. mykel fucked around with this message at 18:25 on Oct 8, 2013 |
