I just called my collective class of students "y'all" and "folks" because it's really not that hard, and then I never had to worry about what-ifs. Maybe it's easier to understand as a girl who hung out with groups of boys and got tired of being called one of the guys.

Basically, ADHD causes problems with your brain's executive function- your ability to focus on things, make desicions regarding getting your poo poo done, things of that nature. There's two neurotransmitters, dopamine and norepinephrine, that really help with executive function, and it just happens that stimulants dump a bunch of that into your brain. It's not making your brain slow down, it's just getting your levels of certain neurotransmitters to a neighborhood where you can focus on what you need to focus on instead of bouncing from activity to activity and idea to idea. There's still the appetite surpression, there's still an increased heart rate and all that. It just happens that bringing certain things up from level a to level b changes behavior in a different way than bringing it from level b to level c.
