I suspect that person was looking at the number on the tooltip for the weapons, which low information players think means something, and not an actual DPS parse. Still an awful build, though I've seen far worse.

That's positively top tier compared to most pubbie horror show builds.

It's still garbage but at least there was some thought put into it. Probably doesn't know about power settings, etc.

Honesty it doesn’t take that much time. Back after VIL I was doing a single tholian or borg or whatever the ship exp grind was under the old queue system a day and iirc I got two of them unlocked before I got bored and just stopped even logging in to refine dill. I want to say I was getting a ship from zero to max in about two or three weeks at that pace.

It would be hell to just grind but if you did five minutes of pew pew a day it wasn’t any worse than logging in for a holiday event or whatever. Same time commitment and you get an account wide ship at the end of about the same number of days.

Nah it's fine, it's just not a very exciting weapon these days. Power levels have been power creeped enough that the 2-piece proc is less critical, and if you want kinetic damage you're probably better off with torpedoes because big burst damage instead of a slow trickle is generally better even in PVE, and torps can potentially have weapon skills boosting them depending on your loadout while the cutting beam can't. Also the meta swinging over to cannons means they're easier to use since you're going to be pointing your nose at the target anyway.

I mean like everything else in the game though it's still perfectly fine as long as you keep the mark up to date. :effort:

It’s also extremely not worth it. If you’re desperate to fly a Constitution, check out the Kelvin timeline Heavy Cruiser (the JJPrise) or the Vengeance, which is an upscaled Connie with one of the best seating and weapon layouts in the game. You can also grab the Reliant from Wrath of Khan or T6 versions of the Ambassador Class, Galaxy Class, or Sovereign Class in the C-Store. You could in theory buy a T6 Excelsior but it sucks so don’t.

Basically you can fly every canon ship but the Constitution relatively cheaply and I assume that’s the way their revenue model wants it.

E: Comedy option: buy a T1 Constitution and fly it in STFs. Post a parse in which you outdamage every other pubbie in your team and win a prize!

While its layout doesn't conform with the meta, the current winter event ship is a rather entertaining looking ship.

This isn't exactly difficult. Pugs are notoriously poo poo, and a T1 ship using gimmick consoles can easily out DPS a pug STF. Hell, I took a T1 NX into a PvP match with some poo poo talking pubbie a few months back. The poor bastard had a cloak and should have had me dead to rights, I almost felt bad for him.

Open your log of available quests, not the episode menu.

The episodes were heavily streamlined for new characters to differentiate the different faction campaigns and get more of the later arcs like Delta Rising and whatnot brought into the normal leveling pathway instead of being post-cap.

Hey, if anyone purchased the steamrunner pack years ago through Steam is unable to claim it on newer alts, send a support ticket.
Only the bundle with two ships and none of the extras (the two uncommon boffs with gear, the Steam Powered title and the 1000xp booster) is available, but I'd have to buy it again to get the ships.

I just got 2500zen added to my account.

Some absolute madman has spent time methodically testing and parsing the DPS of hanger pets on a single, shielded target. Read the whole thing here.

Highlights:

- Elite Aeon Timeships appear to be the best pet in the game, outdamaging even Romulan Drone Frigates.
- Your best bet for a hanger pet that won’t set you back the price of a lockbox ship is Elite Obelisk Swarmers, likely followed by Elite Peregrines or Tu’Doj fighters.
- The author notes that the circumstances of the test probably work against the Tholian Meshweaver frigate, which is great at AOE debuffing.
- We’ve known that Callisto Frigates are broken for a while, but in the test the elites parsed lower than rare Peregrine fighters. That’s embarrassing for a pet locked behind a paywall.

Asimo

The fact that test was against a heavily shielded target is  since most of fighter damage is usually from their torpedoes due to their lovely weapon power level. It's interesting to see compiled, but it's basically useless in practice. It also neglects the damage lost when fighters die whenever something sneezes in their direction.

Timeships have definitely been underrated though and I used them a lit on ships without frigates.

It also ignores fighter buffs like Scramble Fighters and Wing Commander. Checking again, I notice that the JH Vanguard frigates scored pretty well at the rare level, but weren't purchased at UR or VR. Based on the rare numbers, they could be pretty competitive.

not to mention that a test against a stationary target completely ignores how lovely the pet AI is having to position themselves when using cannons or any weapons with restricted targeting angles

I haven't run a parser since season 5 so take this with a grain of salt but I'm pretty sure anecdotally that the elite Kelvin drone hanger you can equip on the Vengeance is pretty great at damage output.

During mirror events those little suckers would actually nuke whole ships by themselves in a single pass.

They do, but between buying the Baltim raider and the Vonph to field two hangers of the pets you're looking at 600-700m EC to do it. And by the looks of things, you'd still be better loading up your hanger with Peregrines or Aeons.

I saw a couple of newbies in goon chat today asking about what a good, readily available (not incredibly expensive on the exchange) ship at tier 5 is for a newbie. So, a brief little guide. Note that Klingon and Romulan ships on the exchange are almost invariably more expensive than the neutral and Federation ships.

Do you want to fly a...

Cruiser?

The best choice is probably going to be the D'Kora, available to all factions for a budget price (as these things go) on the exchange. Keep the battle mode console on until you're ready to kit out with something better.

Federation players, also consider the Mirror Universe Heavy Cruiser Retrofit also available on the exchange. It has a ltcom sci slot instead of the D'Kora's ltcom tac slot. The tac is generally preferable, but this thing's not a bad choice for a newbie tier 5 on a budget, either.

Klingons, consider the Mirror Universe Negh'var Heavy Battle Cruiser. It's a copy/paste of the above ship with that cloaking device Klingons love.

Romulans, the D'deridex Warbird Battle Cruiser Retrofit available with the level 52 token is available later than these three above, but is superior to all of them in every way except handling. Sorry, but the Double D still flies like a pig, but it has solid seating and decent consoles.

Escort?

Look no further than the Nicor, available to all factions at reasonable prices on the exchange. It has everything you want out of an escort, and has one extra tac console (always good) over any of the options below.

Federation, the Mirror Universe Escort Retrofit is a fine alternative. Has one less tac console, though, so its damage potential will always be a bit less than the Nicor.

Klingons, the Mirror Universe Somraw Retrofit is a copy/paste of the above ship and just as good. If you're into birds of prey (Godspeed you lunatic), you want the Mirror Universe Ki'tang Bird of Prey Retrofit. This one's likely to be more expensive than the other choices in this section, but it's the best bopper you can buy with ec.

Romulans, the Mirror Universe Mogai Heavy Warbird Retrofit is a good escort if you don't want the Nicor.

Science Vessel?

The Tholian Orb Weaver is a cheap and very solid science vessel that will fit all your space magic needs.

There is an alternative, though, the Lukari N'Kaam Scout Ship. The Orb Weaver's stats are superior in most respects, but the N'Kaam can equip dual [heavy] cannons and has the Raider Flanking perk, so it's worth a look if you want to try that style on top of your space magic.

These two ships are uncontested by any of the freebies or Mirror Universe ships available on the exchange, though for the Romulans, the Ha'nom Guardian Warbird and for Feds, the Recon Science Vessel come close (they critically lack a ltcom tac slot next to the Orb Weaver and N'Kaam but have the same number of tac consoles). Both are also free at level 40, so there's that.

Carrier?

If you're a Klingon, grab your free Vo'Quv at 40, or if you're a Klingon or Klingon-allied Dominion, get the Kar'fi with your level 52 token. These are sadly the only readily available carrier options.
