Go to China, they have an even handed view of Mao: did 70% good, 30% bad is the standard line. We have a guy who had teeth stolen from slaves and put in his mouth on our money, and helped kick off a genocidal land grab. Let’s not act so sensitive here.

I don’t know if anyone has more context on this but I saw a video essay on where the 50M dead from communism came from. The gist was that they came from a book that was repudiated by several of its contributors and that the numbers themselves were completely made up without any evidence.

They included Nazis killed in battle or executed by the Soviets in the number lol

Yeah, if you want a really fun time, look up some of the writeups on the dumb Victims of Communism memorial wall in Canada.

Christya Freeland's involvement is also really funny considering she was a "left," voice on Left, Right, and Center for a little while before getting into Canadian politics more directly.

Well I hear the thunder roll, I feel the cold winds blowing...
But you won't find me there, 'cause I won't go back again...
While you're on smoky roads, I'll be out in the sun...
Where the trees still grow, where they count by one...
On the subject of people with hopelessly reprehensible opinions, especially with an audience around, I'm not above pulling a D&D style campaign of drowning them in their ignorance. It's easy to do if you consume any regular news at all.

For example, when a totally alt-right guy who worked with us started talking about how "Trump was going to expose Joe Bidens pedophilia!!!!" I simply asked him to tell me who mitch McConnell was. "A... politician?" elicited laughs from all in attendance and dude just put his head down for awhile. Critical "you never even tried to know what the gently caress is going on" hit.

The way they always do.

Step 1: "Trump didn't actually mean that; he's just venting"
Step 2: Someone - Ben "WAP" Shapiro or some other ghoul unironically says, "Yeah, maybe we should terminate the constitution"
Step 3: Fox News and other RWM slowly comes around to the idea.

It's the patented multi-step process they've been doing for 5-6 years now. It's a joke and "they didn't mean it" and "the left is crazy for thinking this is what we believe" until it's a part of the GOP platform.

Some categories just have a special media pass. No matter how many pastors/priests diddle kids in their congregation or steal funds, they will always only be brought in as examples of sound values and virtue, and their misdeeds never invite further discussion or follow-up.

Likewise, conservative and 'family values' types are always presumed honest and in good faith. No reporter will ever throw Dennis Hastert in the face of any GOPer blubbering about keeping the children safe. The January 6 shitstorm shocked the vestals of decorum for maybe 10 hours that "hey, maybe one side here is a bit hosed up", but they were then immediately giving a pass to every GOPer that had been cheering for the rioters.

Likewise, Dems are never called on betraying progressives. In fact, it only earns them institutional praise. But if they ever try pardoning school debts or pulling out of a lucrative eternal war theater, hoo boy!

"The constitution is a sacred document anointed by God himself because America is a christian nation and Jesus loves us but Democrats want to destroy it!" - Conservative republicans for the last 40 years.

"We should suspend the constitution until I am made president again, based on poo poo I made up." - Some nouveau riche moron from New York

"Yeah! gently caress the constitution if this false prophet I worship can't be King of America! What good is it if liberals and gays exist and this idiot I love can't rule over us?" - These same conservative Republicans now.

Just wait. Gonna monitor this heavily this week.

And while I'm thinking about it, any word on the annual War on Christmas yet? Because I remember Trump declared that it was over since he made it OK and legal to say "Merry Christmas" again and I haven't gotten my marching orders this year.

Should be, but isn't. This is because capitalism specifically does not even try to take responsibility for these outcomes. When a famine happens under capitalism, it was some individual actor's fault. It's considered intended behavior.

Meanwhile, failures of socialism/communism, no matter how clearly caused by individual actor's behaving poorly, get tagged as undermining the philosophy because that philosophy attempts to address and take responsibility for those things directly.

Every externality of socialism is breathlessly tallied, every externality of capitalism is hand-waved or treated as virtue.

edit: LOL, just down the page is a section that entirely refutes any nonsense that trickle-down trickles down"

quote:

Between 1979 and 2019, income after transfers and taxes grew most quickly among households in the top 0.01 percent of the distribution, spurred by strong growth in income before transfers and taxes and a reduction in average tax rates. From 1979 to 2019, average income after transfers and taxes grew by the following amounts:

97 percent among households in the 81st to 99th percentiles, or at an average annual rate of 1.7 percent per year, from $98,200 to $193,700;
193 percent among households in the 99th to 99.9th percentiles, or at an average annual rate of 2.7 percent per year, from $284,300 to $833,000;
367 percent among households in the 99.9th to 99.99th percentiles, or at an average annual rate of 3.9 percent, from $838,300 to $3.9 million; and
507 percent among households in the top 0.01 percent of the distribution, or at an average annual rate of 4.6 percent, from $4.9 million to $30.0 million.
Because of reductions in the average federal tax rate over the 1979–2019 period, the growth of income after transfers and taxes surpassed the growth of income before transfers and taxes by 83 percentage points among households in the top 0.01 percent of the income distribution and by 46 percentage points among households in the 99.9th to 99.99th percentiles. In contrast, among households in the 81st to 99th percentiles and the 99th to 99.9th percentiles, income after transfers and taxes grew at roughly the same rate as income before transfers and taxes.

Consequences of right wing media:

So, you know how the Trumpified GOP has been running this campaign to discredit early voting (because that's how George Soros uses his bamboo space lasers to steal votes) and one of the effects of that is now there is a chunk of the GOP electorate that refuses to vote early/absentee/by mail and will only vote on election day? And since Republicans increasingly refuse to early vote (while Dems are racing banking as many early votes as they can), they really need full turnout on election day in order to grab that Senate seat?

Well, there's a reason why campaign strategy 101 is "bank as many votes as possible before election day, so there are fewer voters that you have to drive to the polls on election day, plus you never know what weird poo poo might happen on election day itself to ruin your plans":

https://twitter.com/brent_peabody/status/1599777016953217025

Huge storms in the heavily Republican parts of northern Georgia are expected to suppress turnout for tomorrow's special election.

No, see, this is just more proof that Democrats cheated! Warnock is a reverend, which means he is quite close to 'God' if that is what you want to call him. So, he prayed to win the election. That's outside interference! He literally asked an outside power to interfere so he can steal the election.

Then, get this, God used his omnipotence to create weather. Was that weather neutral? No! It targeted legal voters going to polls with their IDs, and it kept them from voting. God brought a storm to stop the vote, because remember, Warnock has that insider connection and he can just talk to God. That's corruption if I've ever seen it.

The solution then becomes clear. In order to stop this terrible interference in our elections, we must attack and dethrone God. Otherwise, the Dems will continue to use God to cheat their way into godless socialism.
