Obviously the solution is a CAD thread.

I'm pretty sure that thread is counter productive because the critiques are even worse than the photos.

Hey, I've added my critique with "nah that's just boring" or my favorite "man I love those colors". Quality comments, quality.

The palette first and foremost, but I dig the balanced composition and symmetry too. The square crop is a good choice for the shot. It's subjective though, just because I like a shot doesn't mean you have to as well, I'm just a dude on a forum.

e: Just in case you're not following it already, you should definitely have a look at the Photo a Day thread. It unfortunately moves quite slowly but it's a great thread for serious discussion and critique about photos and what makes them good/bad, whereas as much as I love this thread, it's more high-fiving and less discussion.

Thanks for the input! It helps me to look at things a little differently. Similar with music, I've learned to enjoy different types after forming a better understanding of the music.

What are these? I love the shapes (geometric?) but for some reason they are also a bit unsettling. Seems like something I remember seeing in an old X-Men comic when I was young.

A thread like PAD can be useful to someone who's picked up a camera for the first time in the past month or so, but other than that, it's the world's saddest circle jerk. No one needs to be told to straighten horizon lines or place things on thirds. They probably have a set of eyes and have either done it intentionally or don't care. If you want to get opinions on your colour balancing, just log into Dorkasaurus' account and post in the MF/LF thread.

Brutalism.

I don't know exactly what building that is but if you're looking at architecture and feeling unsettled/nostalgic for x-men you're viewing an example of brutalism.

It's the roof of a church in suburban Dublin. Any modern churches I've seen in Ireland have a brutalist look to them, it coincides with the population growth before the 1980's and the subsequent emigration and decline in church attendance I guess. Sam Stephenson is responsible for most of the brutalist architecture in Dublin though I don't think he designed that church, not nearly enough concrete to be him.

Went to Charlotte, NC for the weekend and managed to find a half hour to explore with my camera (while chasing kids). I'm really disappointed that I didn't have more time, there are a lot of hideaways and holes in the wall to explore and nobody to get in the way.
