If it feels funky, you attached it wrong. Some are easier than others. e: sorry for the lovely snipe

cool new Metroid game posted:After years of churning through lovely 10 quid keyboards I've decided to embrace mechanical but I don't want to spend more than 100 quid. Skimmed through the past 10 or so pages on this thread and googled around and I've come up with a few options. Logitech G610 looks alright, maybe one of these CoolerMaster keyboards, Pro White or Quick Fire, found some cheapish Corsair K70s with red switches, I kinda want brown switches though and for some reason the only places I'm finding with UK K70 layouts with browns are a load more expensive. maybe one of those Unicomp IBM style keyboards? Are those okay for gaming? I could just get a Cherry G80 for about 60 quid which seems pretty good but as I said I kinda want browns. As I mentioned I do a spot of gaming but I mostly want something that lasts longer than a year, feels good and some media keys would be a bonus but not necessary. The Logitech G610 with browns has been on sale fairly cheap (£65 I think) at PC World or Currys etc hellholes recently. Typing on it now - really like it though suspect I would like a tenkeyless layout. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/compu...146217-pdt.html

It's apparently not too difficult to replace the cord on my Filco keyboard, but I don't know where to get a long braided cord. Where would I find a dope selection of cords within EU+UK?

The Filco has a board connector, you can't just connect a USB cable to it. Does this shop support that? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQNjC6opiSY ufarn fucked around with this message at 19:57 on Feb 10, 2017 |

Cool, my new Logitech G610 keyboard has coil whine like noise if I set backlighting to lower than max brightness with no effects. Also, who would use the max brightness setting? It's blinding!

redeyes posted:Thats a PWM controller and it shouldn't make noise. Yet another worthless Logitech product made in the bowels of China. Just discovered that it makes noise even with effects running, just quieter that I didn't hear during the day. So my only options are running it at full brightness or off. I''m opting for off... Otherwise I'm really liking this keyboard. It's really heavy and feels very sturdy. Chose it because there were no other minimalistic mechanical keyboards with good dedicated media controls keys out there.

I let a friend buy it from another country because it was way cheaper than here and it actually had non-russian layout, plus more importantly, he didn't keep the receipt. I think I'll still try my luck with Logitech support. I've heard good stories about them, but I suspect they may be that great only in US.

I had a friend get rid of a Deck Francium for a 10 dollar mouse+keyboard bundle because he kept palm slapping the Windows key while typing and he wanted media control buttons. Smdh.

SinineSiil posted:Because I use them a lot? I don't get why hitting function + a key instead is so much worse that you had to rule out every single well made keyboard? Like I'm not attacking you specifically or anything, it just legitimately confuses me how many people in this thread end up buying really bad keyboards cause they require separate media keys or the even more specific volume wheel. I don't understand why its so necessary it outweighs build quality in importance to a large number of folks.

pr0zac posted:I don't get why hitting function + a key instead is so much worse that you had to rule out every single well made keyboard? If you're a settings fiddler, FN combos suck rear end. They don't bother me but sometimes on my laptop, it's hard to remember which FN key combo adjusts volume when the backlight is off, and I can't do it by touch since the function row is all the same goddamn size. This is why people who constantly hit skip or pause or adjust volume want something independent from the main keys, so they can do it by touch. I just use the nav cluster with ctrl and alt. Mine is 2 tall and 3 wide so Ins is play/pause, PgUp is previous track, and PgDn is next track. Volume adjustment is bound to ctrl alt scroll wheel and +-.

Megalixir posted:Are Logitech keyboards made in China? Logitech mice are manufactured in the US and they're some of the best mice on the market The last 3 Logitech mice I've owned were garbage, the pads wore out very quickly or fell off quickly, and all 3 had tracking issues. I bought one of the more expensive ones, $70, and it only last 6 months. No more. I bought an MS Sculpt and love it. It's already outlasted the 3 previous mice. I was thinking of buying a new keyboard but after reading the thread, decided to keep mine awhile. It's a Logitech and still going strong although the keys are worn too slick for my taste. I might rough them with sandpaper and squeeze some more life out of it.

I'm pretty sure I was only covered by their 90 day warranty (it's been two years) because I bought it open box from an auction site, I tried to contact someone from Thermaltake to confirm this but was never able to get a reply from them so that kinda encouraged me to move on to something else (I also wanted to try switching from blue to red switches and get something with a little more compact layout so an excuse to do that I guess). the videos of it seem pretty positive, I don't mind the non cherry switches since I'm currently using kaihl and other than the stopping working thing they feel alright compared to the cherries of the same color. The font on the keys is kinda stupid looking but for such a cheap board i would consider buying some cool replacement keycaps
