I guess there's no chance at a sincere apology and eventual redemption for Nick? Man, I'm seriously sad about hearing this.

Probably not unless something actually horrific comes out. I think his future at Polygon may be on thin ice, though, if only because so much of Polygon's brand is the literal opposite of being ok with this poo poo.

There's so much the layer of 'uh I didn't drag her into an alley and rape her, you can't call this a sex offense man' that people genuinely don't understand 'hey, if you've made someone uncomfortable or unsafe feeling maybe you need to consider if you're in the wrong'.

That thread very quick got populated with "Nick is a rapist and we should obliterate all references to content of his in in this group" comments on one side and "well I don't see any evidence so you are all just witchhunting" on the other. The latter group was mostly just summarily banned. edit; actually that's a mischaracterization of the former group. There have been a lot of people who are basically saying that the very fact that some people in the industry seem to have been confirming that Nick did something is proof enough of misconduct. I assume somewhere along the line someone said "This guy did a thing, it's not cool" and other people spoke up at some point as well. That's not what's happening here. So far all we've seen was "I heard a thing happened but can't share the deets" and "wink wink, nudge, nudge you know who did you know what." None of which is anywhere near the same as actually talking about a problem.

On the other hand, his career was over and if they didn't their careers would suffer by virtue of associating with him because that's how this kind of rumor mongering poo poo spreads. In just one day this has gone from "He's Bad" to "He has a wife and cheated on her" to "He's a rapist!" and "He's also a pedophile!". No actual sources or evidence has come clean, and I sure as hell can't blame anyone for not wanting to get caught in the cross fire. Whether he did it or not his career is just done now because this stuff will never go away. You say it's not our business, and someone earlier said that victims don't have to come out and talk about what happened. And you're right it's not, and they don't. But people shouldn't just drop vague hints and let things just go up in flames either. People in this topic were talking about how it's "not a huge leap" to assume he did whatever heinous sex crimes people are accusing him of - but it is. A leap is still a leap without any kind of evidence.

None of which is anywhere near the same as actually talking about a problem. People are talking about a problem; you're witnessing the fallout from those conversations. It's natural for people to feel like they should be privy to the complete record in a situation like this because it involves public figures and public dragging, but we're talking about very sensitive subject matter and third-party observers who aren't even being asked to take any action have no right to specific details. I mean I've been presuming the people who cut ties were shown evidence in confidence. I am not going to harass Nick or claim I know exactly what happened or call him a rapist but I think it's stupid to say I'm not allowed to have a bad feeling when people so close to him immediately cut ties. Either way, something bad went down, and I don't have the evidence to know what.

I really doubt that Ben and Kessler cut ties over vague and nonspecific tweets about sexual harassment, it seems way more likely they have heard from people were are alleging harassment but (for very good reason) aren't willing to broadcast their experiences publicly. e: and given the content of their statements I really doubt the alleged behaviour was as harmless as a 'sned nudes lol' DM.

And apparently that isn't enough for some people on twitter. I'm thinking nothing about this because 1. Nick doesn't have an actual, specific accusation to respond to (not even talking about evidence, the accusation is nebulous enough that i can't even tell if its one incident that a lot of people are talking about or multiple). 2. The people i pay attention to are all saying he has to prove he hasn't done anything which is absolutely not achievable when the accusation involves twitter.
