Pat mentioned on stream that he didn't need to deal with the contract at all because some viewer sent him an extra key they had.

the contract is just an agreement before they provide a free key. according to JP on the dropped frames podcast tho someone from the company said they know the agreement is 'inappropriate' and are in the process of changing it. it's unclear if its because of a translation issue or just regional contract differences (netease is chinese afaik?)

Game honestly looks better than Overwatch in Alpha. That part of the contract was really stupid.

I'd argue it's because it's basically the exact same take folk have had on the series for decades, which most Gundam fans are probably tired of hearing even if they may share sentiments.

IIRC Woolie is one of those guys who watches a show once and then moves onto the next, so it's likely he hasn't watched SEED in years of course his thoughts on it would be the same.

And isn't Jesus Yamato more of a thing in Destiny than it is in regular Seed? Like, it gets absolutely absurd later on.

If he didn't like it the first time I doubt he'd enjoy it the second. Also Seed + Destiny combined add up to about 100 episodes, that's a big ask even for a good show.

SEED, for all its flaws, still has its cast mostly acting like people and not caricatures for the plot. Destiny is where stuff gets goofy, but a lot of the stuff Kira gets poo poo for in Destiny starts at the back end of SEED.

I wanna say when SF6 first came out he was using that concept; he felt around then that he was out of fighting games, SF6 demo went up and he was locked in and he said something about how his fighting game show would be Get OUT Of Fighting Games because he would just beat people up and not teach poo poo.

They first used the phrase as a potential title for a post-Best-Friends equivalent to Saturday Morning Scrublords where Woolie and Reggie play lovely fighting games. It might have been suggested in a podcast email.

I remember Pat saying it in the podcast that came after the streams where he beat Woolie in like 95% of their matches in the SF6 beta.

Been on a From kick lately and went back to watch the SBFP LPs and some of them haven't aged as well as I'd hoped. I think their DS1 playthrough is still the best I've seen for that game (Annals of History goof notwithstanding- seriously, where did he get that?). Pat's backseating is really rough for the first 25% of DS2, calms down up until the halfway mark, and is mostly fine for the rest. Bloodborne is rough with how they allocate their stats. DS3 is mostly fine but Pat's twitchy camera is actually hard to watch at times. The Demon's Souls stream is pretty bad due to visual quality and overcrowding in the commentary.

That said, I wouldn't have started playing Souls if it wasn't for those guys. I was originally scared away by some of the mechanics, but I think Pat's experience with the game mirroring my own helped me wrap my head around them and eventually enjoy them.

Pat admitting to allocating stats in bloodborne poorly because he thought it would cause Woolie to die easier and thus grant him more turns was bonkers.

Amusingly that was the first lp of theirs that I caught so I thought them taking turns on death was their gimmick for a while.

I don't remember what they said in the LP, but DS1 does have a localisation fuckup where it says the firstborn "lost the annals of history", when it should have been that his name was struck from them. It makes it sound like his crime was losing some old books, rather than what it turned out to be, siding with the dragons.

Yeah, the DS1 LP is what got me to give the series another shot. A friend had gifted me DS1 and I did the usual "bumble into skeleton graveyard" eventually got pointed in the right direction, but ended up giving up at Tauros demon. Pat spelling out some of the basics like how to allocate stats, plus I think seeing the Tauros demon plunging attack was enough to make me try it again, and rather quickly get hooked on a desire to get ahead of the LP. (And then marathon the rest of the series)

It was really funny getting got by Lautric, because then I got to anticipate Woolie seeing that.

Wait, was it Woolie or Reggie that got stupid lucky with the Anor Londo archers? (and god do I want more Reggie Souls)

I stopped watching Reggie vs Demon's Souls because Woolie was steering him into the build Woolie used in the old stream and I just wanted to see what Reggie would do. He had shown interest in a magic build but idk if it ever swerved that way by the end. Plus they just kept going on an area until they beat it instead of trying anything else and maybe gaining some levels, it made it so slow.

Did Woolie knock it off for DS and let Reggie off the leash or was it similar?

It was Reggie. The archer ran up to him but then fell off the ledge right when it was going to swing at him, which deflated Woolie super hard. It was one of the best moments.

Yeah Reggie got do magic combined with the Titanite Catch Pole and the Armored Boar Helm he got in some very lucky drops into a build I've never quite seen before.

Maybe the translation got fixed at some point, because I remember checking and seeing in-game and seeing that it said "lost to the annals." I don't know, I'll eat crow if I'm wrong. The fixed version is a common saying, so I probably would have read it in the correct way.

I kept running into walls, too. I didn't even see the path to Undead Burg until a walkthrough pointed it out (I later found out this was a common problem in the early days with other people who were also playing on CRTs). Then, every walkthrough I could find at the time usually said "get the dragon tail sword and that shield in the Valley of the Drakes," without really explaining what the game itself is going for. I also tend to get overloaded when it comes to stats in games. It was finally seeing the SBFP LPs where Pat just says "This is how upgrading works, this is how stats and weapons work, also read all item descriptions" that I was able to get over the hurdle and enjoy the games.

I think that's retroactive Pat BS, really. Pat allocated poo poo the way he did in Bloodborne because he has a mind goblin fixation on Endurance, and his philosophy with a blind souls playthrough is to bounce between strength and dex weapons until he finds one he likes. Woolie wouldn't care because it was his second Souls game, and Bloodborne's initial distribution of weapons is kind of uneven and limited pre-DLC.

Neo_Crimson posted:

EDIT: Reggie vs Dark Souls 2 when

They might go back to that when they have a gap in the schedule. Woolie said on the podcast he was running through DS2 again as a refresher a while back. Things were derailed because of that executable script exploit that was found in the network code for all the games ahead of Elden Ring, and the PC servers for all the games were taken offline for months. The Scholar of the First Sin version is back up now, but the vanilla DS2's servers were left offline.

If they do run through it, I'm curious if they'd do Scholar because Woolie played the vanilla DS2 before and there's substantial enough remixes that would gently caress with his memories. I don't recall if he said which version he said he was playing through.
