I am playing this game and having fun, but I dunno if I'm missing something when it comes to interacting with the people in town. Do I just have to give them more and more gifts until I can talk to them and get different dialogue? Am I meant to just wander around the town and hope I run into random cutscenes? Because I'm in my first autumn/fall now and outside of the town festivals I've seen a cutscene where Linus is rummaging through a bin, and a couple of times I've talked to NPCs and they've asked me like, how I feel about farming and things like that, but I'm wondering if there's more I should be seeing and if i'm doing something wrong here.

Yeah, once you're at a certain heart level with people, entering a certain area at a certain time will trigger a cutscene with them. I'm at the same point you are, but I've gotten like 10 of them, so you're probably not talking / giving gifts to people enough.

Just make sure you talk to people whenever you see them, and try really hard to get them a "loved" gift on their birthday (that gets you an instant 2.5 heart increase). Use the goon gifting guide in the OP.

edit: Also, gift-giving and business transactions don't count as "talking", so for shopkeepers, make sure you walk behind the counter and talk to them.

Do festivals and the saloon count as "talking?" I used to think they did but I'm not so sure. The world is not holding its breath for the answer to this question.

I think festivals don't, but the saloon does.

Considering what a hassle it is to restore the community center, my take on the Joja option is just that it provides another way to unlock content (like the greenhouse) on a second playthrough without having to jump through all those hoops again. Its importance as an in-game achievement comes second, as well it should.

As for why you'd play through the game a second time, I dunno, maybe you'd like to adhere to a theme this time around - presuming your first farm (like mine) ends up a hodgepodge of crops and animals and artisan industries while you figure things out. This would be yet another benefit to choosing Joja on all future playthroughs since you're no longer required to fish or raise animals or do anything else you don't want to.

Post avatar combo.

I always grab a trap bobber before going for the tough fish. Build up a good supply of cooking fish, and befriend Willy, so you can always have Trout Soup or Fish Stew on hand.

I'm surprised nobody has made a FFVII mod for this game.

Well holy poo poo this got addictive, I haven't played a game this long in a row and ignored household chores in ages.

Oh well, I got the (maybe spoiler) statue of endless fortune now and that seems like the final thing to do, so I guess I can turn my attention back to real life now. And wait for patch 1.1.

Here’s where I’m at on version 1.1:

Shane’s marriage stuff is completely finished.
Emily is 80% finished. I am working on her now and making rapid progress.
New farm buildings
A new upgrade option for your house
Ability to move buildings
New items and crops
More spouse behaviors

Still planning on doing:
Something I’m not ready to reveal yet, but will add more replay value to the game
more buildings
some more character events for non-marriage NPC’s
more bug fixes
???

Speaking of co-op, has CA said if the 1.1 update will be independent of the multiplayer update? I'd hate for the new content to be delayed just because of Chucklefish.

I wonder what he's adding for replay value.
