Just downloaded the free trial of Soldano SLO-100 X from Neural DSP because they're having a sale and I've been meaning to check it out. Whips rear end, I love it. If you play heavy stuff DI with sims definitely check it out if you haven't yet. https://neuraldsp.com/plugins/soldano-slo-100

It’s an awesome all around piece of software I can’t recommend enough, and I’ll still recommend its acoustic/piezo and low gain amp. But for heavy poo poo I think I’m making the switch. Also I lol’d at some of the preset pun names. Most notably “Gain ‘the Rock’ Johnson” and “Shania Gain” (because I’m an idiot).

i've got petrucci and it's good but now that gojira has the transposer i'd probably swap to that for heavy music if i bought more neural plugins. had my favorite heavy tone when i demoed them back in the day. morello is a really good jcm and the stuff necessary for weird tom morello sounds rabea for the synth, which is extremely cool

huh i didnt know there was a separate thread for amplifiers. i wouldnt shut up about them like a week or two ago here I ended up keeping the mesa boogie mark V 35. Which I found to be the most wide array of good sounds of the amps I tested (sounds that fit my wide range of genres and don't Pidgeon hole to one good thing) and the way the gain knob functions is very interesting. The fryette powerstation I already use nearly every day now, but I've just boxed it up and sent it to fryette for an RMA.. or more of a lab bench check over at least, after talking with them for a while, agreed it would be easiest just to have them check it with their equipment and make sure it's not bleeding too much volume for when I move onto using higher wattage amps with it and don't have to redo a customer support ticket months later overall seem like nice group of people, albeit a small company I think they are relatively busy.. you gotta give them some time to reply. but they gave me good electrical insight on it so I can better understand it now I didn't buy the powerstation to do this other thing I'm going to mention explicitly as much as attenuate the mesa boogie... but running helix models into it (through its line in) and then into my real cab.. basically as a normal rack type power amp, it's freaking fantastic at that. I get the color of my cabinet and speaker, but I can switch around different amp models. As a flat poweramp designed to not color the tone at all it does this miles better than when I tried doing a similar thing with a 4 cable method and combo amp. This isn't all that different from an FRFR speaker with a good IR, but am using a real tuuube power amp driving a real cabinet after the helix amp model. you cut out a lot of the tuning you need to do with your various post IR EQs and what not to make the FRFR speakers sound great (which they can sound equally good imo). just a different approach really but it's fun and i preserve the sound of my favorite real cabinets ethanol fucked around with this message at 22:08 on May 6, 2024 |

New projects Late 80s "Vista" which is just a rebagded Hondo Fame Series 760 with the KKT bridge which is the shittiest Floyd knock-off ever. Really just needs a clean and restring/setup. Then these two. Strat-copy is a Karera, needs a new power switch, battery connector, and the nut glued in place because the tuner holes are in the wrong place and pull everything over to one side. Possibly Korean, likely Chinese. 18-1/4" scale length, plays surprisingly better than I expected. The Star is a Stuntman, made in Japan sometime in the 80s I would guess, 19" scale. Came with it's original leatherette case, too. Like the mini-Explorer I had, way too much fun to play. Need a light cleaning, then I need to figure out if it stays or goes. Still kinda wish I had kept the explorer, but it paid for three other guitars, soo... Still have the full-size Harmony

"Don't play me or my son ever again." Also sorting projects: From the top, a Bacchus Universe P bass, a Bacchus Universe tele with roasted maple neck, a Stewart P bass (which may or may not be a Matsumoto brand) and two Fresher LPs. The black one has a severely cracked neck and headstock, but the burst one is in pretty good nick.

Bought this "demo" Schecter Nick Johnston HSS from Sweetwater. It was marked down to 599 from 899 because it had a crack in the neck pocket. I literally don't see a crack on it, it still had plastic on the pickguard and pickups. As far as I can tell it's in totally mint condition. I feel like I just hit the jackpot. I am not a huge strat guy, but this thing plays like one of the best strats I've ever played. Fretwork is perfect, zero fret sprout(the last strat I owned had terrible fret sprout). Pickups sound great, they don't hum on the single positions so they might be stacked single coils. Bridge pickup sounds like a Duncan JB to my ears. It's great. It also fixes a lot of the things I don't like about strats: 24 frets, Better fretboard radius(14"), big frets, easy access truss rod. Also has a humbucker in the bridge which is great because I can't stand a strat single coil bridge pickup. I think this guitar would be a good buy at 899. At 599 I feel like I stole it. edit: I also had no idea who Nick Johnston was. I checked him out today, he is pretty good Malaria fucked around with this message at 19:05 on May 8, 2024 |

i've played a tribute semi hollow tele a bit and it's a great axe that punches above its price point. i think if you want a strat you're not going to do much better for 300 bucks.

G&L is good poo poo It's wild to me that they're not more widely renowned because it's basically "what if Leo wasn't forced out of his own company and just had endless time to tinker on whatever he felt like" and he came up with some cool as gently caress poo poo (and some... less cool) doing that I think the bridges for instance are straight improvements across the board

I hate my g&l 2 point trem because it's so much larger and bulkier than a standard strat trem and the bushings that hold it in place make it a huge pain to replace. I mean as a trem I'm sure it's a total improvement but I just block it out anyway. Also the necks aren't compatible with fender replacements and no one on earth makes g&l replacement necks.

So they aren't going to order any. same as heritage. Yes, both companies startedfrom ex-employees. But missing the logo and headstock shape. And started really late with 0 market share. it's that simple. the whole 'it's leo's brand' thing also is starting to dilute.. because he's not been involved with the company for years now. I still think they're great guitars. . although I still went fender CS because more neck profile options and availability to play. and probably years of marketing affecting my brain. But I bet I would have liked a customized G&L. assuming they aren't all stuck in the 50s necks profiles like heritage seems to do edit: also if you do want a alternative to fender strat or something like that now.. the options are crazy. like you have PRS silver skies, Suhrs etc.. those are realllly nice. G&L has to compete with all of them ethanol fucked around with this message at 14:55 on May 9, 2024 |

You can find stupid good used deals on both, because they have terrible resale value for some reason. Used G&L and used Schecter guitars are where it's at for someone who wants a lot of guitar for cheap. Bad resale values = good deals used
