Claytronics, amazingly, are made in a claytronics factory though they are fairly rare due to being a high end tech good.

Illegal wares as far as I can tell are only made in out of the way uncontrolled sectors, and only seem to be bought at trading docks. The game doesn't seem to do the "secondary wares" thing from X3 which is unfortunate and means that the market doesn't really work for things that aren't direct production requirements for other things. I'm also not sure where the endpoint of the economy is, where things go once they're made, ultimately.

The economy is supposed to be a determining factor in AI behaviour, including the AI sector conquest events that I haven't personally seen yet, so I assume they just... disappear into a hole at some point, reflecting the AI's resource needs vis-a-vis their sector count? Secondary wares would've probably a bit too complex to model like that.

Hmm. I haven't actually had anything like that happen. I was honestly figuring that war mechanic wasn't properly implemented given how much else seems to have been cut for time.

You could model secondary wares fairly easily I think by just having them accelerate production if provided, or increase the production efficiency stat which is already in game. I'd argue it's kind of necessary for more "luxury" resources.

Pylons posted:

Supposedly? I don't think I've seen one be built though. Other than when I build one.

I have a distinct feeling that the game spawns in a lot of ships to be quite honest, I often find clusters of them appearing in the outer reaches of sectors when they really don't have a reason to be there. Gas miners miles away from any gas fields etc. It may be that part of the economy is simulated properly but I don't think all of it is.

Neither have I, but it makes sense that even if they did cut it, the game still behaves as if that's how the economy should work. You can intercept freighters and such in real-time, it's not too abstracted, so I think secondary wares may be gone simply to make that easier on the simulation. A two-step process, possibly with multiple primary wares as ingredients for one secondary step, results in some seriously complex commodity trees.

Well the idea is that secondary wares were never necessary for production, stations just bought them and used them up where it would be thematically appropriate, basically. X3 IIRC used to buy space fuel at like, mines and poo poo, just so there was a sink for non-essential goods.

It just followed the same economy as the normal stuff, it's just the station doesn't actually need them to produce things. The player stations actually didn't use them at all cos there was no efficiency mechanic in X3, whereas with this game having one, it seems like a good opportunity to implement them.

 Well, I couldn't tell you what it's about for a fact. That's just my guess at what I figured they may have wanted to get rid of them for. I never learned even the X3 economy that deeply, I was playing it very much in a "this ship is cool, imma steal it. gently caress, now everyone hates me. oh well, more ships to steal" kind of way.

What is the trick to make this true? RE; "How do I QUICKLY find stations that sell Y Item?" "Find them first"

For example. I can buy satellites, dump them within 10km of the place you bought them (cheap ones have a 30km range), then go the extra mile and dock with one of the many stations under surveillance of a satellite you bought from them.

Still a nigh empty encyclopedia entry that only list their hull, range, and crafting materials.

The encyclopedia is thus far only a check list of "Well, you saw this existed somewhere once." But the "Docked with a place you are spying on with a satellite" example really drives it home.

Do you need better than Trade Computer extension Mk1? Or some other veteran taken for granted detail? For actual "Look up specifics". The map has pop ups for basic supply/demand tooltips, but that's only for wares on top of making you scour the map personally.

Open the filters on the map (top right button), select the ware you want from the filter list, then zoom out until you find a list that shows either buying or selling it (whichever you're after), then zoom in on that group of stations until you find specific station.

No, the primary classification is now by size: S, M, L, XL. Ships within those sizes have roles like Scout, Fighter, Freighter, Miner, Frigate, Bomber, etc.

That's not the question though. The question from me and Slickdrac was how to fill out the Encyclopedia with locations items have been seen to be sold.

That and as mentioned, the map tooltips are for wares only. That still leaves everything else.

Hav posted:

Telling me you need to jump through such hoops for "Encyclopedia List item sales locations, even if I bought one from this very station" is really surprising. Why is their basic sales something I need to dig up by ramming my Mk2 long range + police scanner into the hull plating?

Satellites track the realtime data of wares supply and demand even for stations I've never set foot on. But not "Hey, did you know this place you just bought Item sells ITEM?" unless I personally rub my ship along the station in scan mode

How does it track if equipment for sale isn't in a state of "We're too low on X to make this without it taking a while" warnings, if only my personal ship snooping counts?

Even with that, I've just spend a while rubbing my ship in scan mode around a large Teladi trade complex equipment dock. No clear visual indicator where I need to do a third pass over to rise above 68% info. No encyclopedia updates added :sigh: Just the usual "This sure is an item that exists".

At least I found a signal that offered some smuggling missions offering "illicit trade deals" as the reward. Apparently black market access is easier for me to obtain than a citation of legal inventory :v:

When you're buying the antimatter select the disposable ship, if it's got a captain it will automatically fly to the station and pick up the cargo. The hard part is getting the idiot to sit next to you so you can bail out into it. The area is full of pirates and xenon and the default AI will constantly run off to fight them unless you tell it not to fight anything.

I piloted the disposable ship myself and had the other ship on a "hold position next to me and do nothing" order.

2. How do you find signals? Do you just lurk around stations looking for them?

For small stuff like fighters, I've been seeing them in the stuff labeled a "Wharf", even if "Hey computer. list closest place that sells a Quasar" is being thwarted. Computer is happy to list a station having 52,371/ 70,225 smart chips five sectors away though, which will come in handy once I branch out into trade.

Signals do indeed seem to just be hoping they spawn while you are in scan mode. Though missions to repair data leaks often count as a win for fixing just one leak out of two. So I've been getting paid for fixing one leak, then go scan the other I had a mission marker point to with no mission failure baggage.

1) Look for a Wharf. It's like a shipyard, but for small ships. I'm not sure how to sell my surplus ships though.

2) You'll hear static as you near a signal. If you turn on the scanning mode (shift + 2), it'll highlight them visually as well. The ones that look like a sparkler seem to be missions, while ones that are coming from a bit of broken station will give you some other benefit.

3) Sometimes pirates be that way and it won't tank your rep with their faction to shoot back.
