I would deem it acceptable to alter my vote back to Shwinn. The RWC/Grandi dance partner issue is suspicious to me, but not so much so that my feelings about Shwinn have diminished.

YPM never mentions RWC. They do push a little towards Shwin, but it doesn’t look too too committed. Notably they also throw shade at Iggy later on. One post about Grandi/Hal really:

Lipstick Apathy
The ball! The night was finally here, and though the house party had dwindled to less than half its original numbers, Lady Vienna was determined to see it out.

The house guests argued amongst themselves over dance partners, over whose dress was least appropriate, over who had stolen who's shoe-roses.

Finally it was decided: shwinnebago had been far too mopey for this particular festivity. He had spent too long mourning the dead and not nearly enough time being sociable. It didn't matter that he had already arranged a dance partner for the evening -- shwinn simply had to go.

shwinnebago, Captain Benwick, TOWN-aligned Mourner was escorted out of the party d4!

quote:

"You cannot know the depth of my despair. Phoebe would have married me before I went to sea, but I told her - I told her we should wait for money. Money!"

You are Captain Benwick, side character of Persuasion. You were engaged to Fanny Harville, sister to Captain Harville, one of your friends. (The quote above calls her "Phoebe" because they renamed her for one of the TV adaptations for no good reason.) Anyway. She wanted to get married right away, and you were all responsible and decided to go off with Captain Wentworth and "make your fortune" so that you guys wouldn't be hopelessly poor. And then she dropped dead while you were at sea so ... yikes. Throughout the book you're in mourning, understandably, but you finally move on with Louisa Musgrove, which delights the main character Anne because she thought Captain WENTWORTH was into Louisa Musgrove, and she's way into him. Yeah, pairing you off just clears the way for the main characters to hook up. I said you were a side character, didn't I? At least you end up with a happily ever after.

Your role is Mourner.

What A Tragedy: After two TOWN-aligned players have died, you'll receive a oneshot based on one of their abilities, randomly picked. This action can't be blocked or redirected, and will automatically happen after every second TOWN death.

Lady Vienna drew herself up. "Mme Clotilde," she said graciously, "would you do me the honour of favouring me with the first dance?"

What's a ball without a little scandal?

It is now n4! Please enjoy the Ball, or sit alone in your room if you have failed to find a partner!

Lipstick Apathy
The much beleagured Lady Vienna Spencer Ball had finally taken place, albeit with far fewer guests than anticipated. But there were many lovely couples dancing together, and the white soup had been exquisite, and that meant the ball had been a resounding success, as was all that mattered.

The day after a ball was always a tiring sort of day, especially if one was the type to imbibe heavily of the refreshments, which Lady Vienna Spencer was. Truth be told, she imbibed heavily on nights that didn't contain balls, but allow the narrator to say that during festive occasions, she overindulged to an increased degree.

Which is to say that the Lady Vienna Spencer was still in her room, in her dressing gown, with a damp cloth resting over her eyes, at an hour far later than her guests might have anticipated.

When a scream once more ripped through the air, she huffed. "Find whomever that is and fire her," she announced to the room around her. She wasn't actually sure if any of the servants (or her poor companion) were still in the room, but -- surely someone would hear her? Look, she was indisposed, all right? Couldn't this wait until later?

Sadly not, because there was, of course, another dead body.

RhymesWithClue, Mrs. Jennings, TOWN-aligned Gossipy Voyeur has been strangled n4!

quote:

Mrs. Jennings was a widow, with an ample jointure. She had only two daughters, both of whom she had lived to see respectably married, and she had now therefore nothing to do but to marry all the rest of the world.

You are Mrs. Jennings, side character of Sense and Sensibility. You're a lovely older lady who is a little bit TOO into gossip, but goodness, you mean well, you're not like evil and catty or anything. And oh, any time you see two people talking, especially if they're young and pretty, you are absolutely convinced that they are deeply in love and can't wait to have them married off. Look, you're bored and you're not really hurting anyone, okay? And you're very nice to the Dashwood sisters. You don't need a happily ever after in the book -- you're already living out yours, just whiling away your days trying to fix up all the nice singletons around you and maybe getting a little too invested in the neighborhood tea, but gently caress it, who doesn't love tea?

Your role is Gossipy Voyeur.

The Juiciest Gossip: As a night action, you may ##voyeur another player, learning what actions were performed on them.

Spreading Gossip: Additionally, you may choose to ##share a gossip with another player, who will receive the information that "Mrs Jennings tried to target [Player]. Their target was seen having the following actions performed on them: [action]. Scandalous!"

In due time, Mr. Voodrum Fly was dispatched to dispose of the remains. One wonders if he was beginning to regret his place of employment ...

It's mess up and lose, right? So probably a bad idea to make any votes right now.

I basically reread the entire game last night and have a few thoughts about where we're at. Summarized version, vs. my where I was yesterday.

High-level: Hal looks scummier. Grandi looks scummier but awkward. PMuzz looks townier but not a great townPMuzz baseline. Sand looks scummier but is either town or has concocted a pretty wild story over the role selection shenanigans that have been coming out in bits and pieces.

I wasn't able to mechanically clear anyone. I wasn't even able to mechanically clear any PAIRS of people to narrow it down. Except that based on yesterday's votes, it probably wasn't exactly PMuzz + RwC (not helpful anymore, I know).

It's a puzzle.
As Grandi and I strode to the dance floor, I told Grandi that I thought they were a wicked person, but that we can still have a lovely dance. They did not even attempt to deny my suspicions. They merely said "That's cool. I have played like poo poo, I expect to die for it." If this were a different day, I would have cast my ballot already. However, after being mistaken about both Shwinn and RWC, I am not discounting the possibility that the wicked pair is Hal/Cube or Hal/Sandwolf. It seems less likely to me that it is Cube/Sandwolf because I find it unlikely they would have chosen to dance together.

Masonry details:

Sand requested the masonry privately pretty early in the day yesterday. Not AS immediate as the others, but it was right away. I asked the mods a shitload of questions about how the masonry pairings would work, tried to see if Grandi had been holding anything back and wanted to signal, and then eventually accepted Sand's invite after what felt like a reasonable amount of time had passed.

Some quick back and forth right when masonry opened, general dissatisfaction, NAI. A few hours later, I reread everyone alive and tried to see what popped up, writing thoughts as I went through it. Wasn't any back and forth, just me typing away.

Sand popped back in this morning, sounds like there were some Discord issues? I'm just going to take that as true, though there was chessMaf where scumSand didn't shy away from there being VF issues.

One of the topics I brought up around my reread was Sand's Hider role choice and some comments they've made about that. I got a story about not reading the OP (fully believable), did submit numbers, didn't submit roles, got auto-assigned, maybe some mod friction.

Based on their posts about role selection, especially the ones with TMor, I think that this could very well have been what happened. Scumbuds would've pinged Sand to submit, I think, so this is why I'm thinking Sand is town. Before last night, my biggest "Sand is town" case was the Hider selection, and this info basically nullifies that. So now it's a question of "Does this story make enough sense?" and I'm not sure.

There's also like, the case Shwinn was making on Sand, all of which still holds true I think. Well, I don't fault Sand for the TMor mis-elim as much as Shwinn did. Sand, if town, has had a pretty rough game.

Phantom my Opera and call me South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut
Hal - Tricky read here and I went from "Scummy -> Townie" after early game, but now that we're here I'm back to "Pretty reasonably could be scum."

The case on Hal being town, I think, is something like "If Hal were scum and picked PGO, then they definitely wouldn't insta-claim, because if you're a scum PGO you can get bonus kills." Which sounds sensible on paper, yeah? Why would scum pass up that opportunity and instead insta-claim?

Well, given the draft nature of WIFOA, Hal can very reasonably be forced to claim PGO, if anyone in the #2-#5ish slot says "Hey by the way, one of the people above me is a PGO." There's no real way of knowing if that'll happen. So even if you're scum and picked PGO first (great place to pick it), then you STILL probably have to be prepared to claim early. And rather than rolling the dice on being forced to claim, it's not unreasonable to try and get ahead of it all with an insta-claim.

HOWEVER! If it is Hal who is a scum PGO, then they're also a bomb, which means that best-case today voting out Hal, we go from 3 / 2 down to 2 / 1 and the NK cleans things up for scum.

Which is...basically the point I made D1. The fact that we didn't vote out Hal early means we're committed to keeping them around until endgame / tomorrow.

Phantom my Opera and call me South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut
PMuzz - Heavy RP since the start of the game, heavily breadcrumbing Vanilla since the start of the game. Posts seem "pretty reasonable" overall, had some reads, had a couple full-read lists. PMuzz has been in four completed games on SA.
1) Harry and the Hendersons, 1st game, town, pretty low-power game, ignoring it basically.
2) Keats' Stalker game, scum.
3) Dang Roombas, double-scum.
4) HCT's "Everyone but Cube is a Bounty Hunter," town.

So I went through that fourth game to see if I could get a baseline on town play. And...seems pretty similar to their posts this game. They were the first Vanilla flavor claim, out of 3 total. So I'm heavily inclined to believe they're Vanilla. Less clear if they're scum or not.

Actually, the hesitation yesterday on RwC vs. Shwinn yesterday is kinda interesting. I think I would expect scumPMuzz to hammer Shwinn instead of sticking on RwC for so long? They were posting about being willing to move over.

Would really love to hear from Grandi about masonry details.

Grandi - Pretty disengaged, which seems weird. They've got like 2 pages of posts and the first page is all from D1. The big thing that stuck out to me was the hard defense on Hal being town D1. In light of my "Actually Hal could be scum," Grandi now looks a bit worse in retrospect. Was ready with a third Vanilla name basically immediately, when I pushed on them. Which leans Vanilla-for-real. Didn't try to signal me at all with the mason invite, so also leaning Vanilla-for-real (plus like, last in the pick order).

Hammered Shwinn over RwC, not sure if there's anything to make out of that.

Would love to hear Grandi's take on masonry discussions last night, but I think I'm leaning Grandi today.
