So this is the first thing I've recorded, mixed, and mastered, at the studio I work at, with my new band Abject Terror. 100% of the proceeds from bandcamp goes to us today, if you like it, please buy it, I need groceries lol. https://pureabjectterror.bandcamp.com/

Hey have you guys heard this sludge metal band from India called Dirge? They're loving incredible. The lead singer was also in a hardcore band called Death by Fungi which sounded like straight up Richmond/Northern Virginia-type hardcore. My favorite song is La Malinche. The vocals absolutely blow me away. https://dirgeindia.bandcamp.com

That album is pretty good. I think I ran into because of a front page thing on Bandcamp, or some metal blog thing. They do some good sludgy doom (doomy sludge?). Looking forward to whatever they put out next. Ran into these folks yesterday. They aren't doing anything really new, but I liked this EP. Their other EP is alright, but I prefer the heaviness of this one. https://potionband.bandcamp.com/ And I ran into them because of this Two Minutes to Late Night cover of a Danzig song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzsR5fxWkho

King Buffalo the third of their four quarantine sessions. "Repeater" was the first track I heard from them. A recommendation from this thread. Cool thread citizens are cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3hrpbODuAk e: That Danzig cover was super fun, but the intro is what really made it for me. hatelull fucked around with this message at 00:47 on May 6, 2020 |

Almost anything that is outright satanic catches my ear but those bands seem to be the have a reverence for their pornographic, violent, psychedelic roots. it feels good to listen to music that sounds really dark. Eyehategod and Cough are also among my playlists.

Wormphlegm were a finnish band who played basically a type of funeral doom but they called their style 'torture doom': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FJa-B8UUS4 Mordor are a really unusual band that has more to do with black metal than doom ideologically but they played very slowly and just generally had an unusual lofi sound, not unlike the much more famous Thergothon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT2PbUbF1V0

"Caustic" is my favorite record but all their stuff is good.

Juaguocio posted:New Elder has some great instrumental parts, but I feel like the vocals sound less and less suited to their music with each successive album. I wasn't a fan of Nick's vocals on their self-titled. Then from Dead Roots up until Reflections it sounded like he was doing sort of an Ozzy thing. Which was fine, but it kind of didn't matter because there'd be like 1 minute of singing in a 15 minute song, especially on stuff like Lore. I like the synthy prog stuff on Omens, but for lack of a better term, Nick's vocal delivery sounds... "jowly" I guess? If there's one gripe I have about Elder it's that they often save some of their best riffs for outros. They could have whole songs based around the riffs introduced in the last 1-2 minutes of songs like Lore, Sanctuary, or Halcyon, but they don't even start until like 10-12 minutes into the song and then they just fade out. Sometimes the songs even seems like they end before those riffs kick in, so it's like a teaser for a totally separate song they'll never actually write. sticklefifer fucked around with this message at 00:46 on May 8, 2020 |

When I saw them live I felt like a bunch of their songs were too long- like they came to a natural sounding ending, but then just kept going. Not that WEED 420 OMG has always gotta be the metric for this genre, but I was talking to the singer/guitarist from Bongzilla and he said that the guys from Bongripper don't even smoke weed, or barely do, and he made fun of them for it (friendly joshing of course) This Stoner Metal Scoop has been brought to you by PotRezin Hilton

AFAIK Sweden is insanely strict about cannabis, so I've always assumed bands like Graveyard or Witchcraft just really love the style of music.

Pretty sure most Japanese bands don’t do any drugs either. Even all the crazy psych bands, it’s just so stigmatized there. And yeah Sweden is also super weird about drugs, even weed. My family there acts like they’re in a paranoid after school special. Once they move to nyc though, look out here comes the drug fueled chaos.

I just heard stories about Acid mothers temple or someone like that having never tripped and it blew my mind. Like this interview with Kikagaku Moyo says, they got even trippier because they had to make up for it quote:Being a music genre deeply-associated with psychedelic drugs, it’s quite interesting that while there has been a big psychedelic music scene in Japan, there’s never really been a drug culture that would support this. What are your thoughts regarding this issue? I got this Japanese dude tripping for the first time on dmt once and as wild as it is for anyone to take, he was so wildly thrilled about it afterwards, it was amazing to see
