I never said it had to be winkeyless. I was referring to the keyboards at http://winkeyless.kr What I want is a TKL with a linear, heavier than MX Red Switch, and RGB/Underglow is a plus but not a requirement. The K65 is literally the switches i'm trying to get away from, if i wanted to stay on MX Reds, I'd just not buy anything. I'd rather just buy something correct than spend extra time and money on swapping parts. As for the WASD TKL, Clears are tactile, so that's out. I've had a Microsoft Sidewinder x4 for about 4 years, maybe less. Is this a decent keyboard, or are there better out there? I've aced my uni exams and have nabbed myself a part time job, so I feel like a reward is in order, and a new keyboard would be a nice addition. If the keyboard I have is fine compared to the new ones that have released since I bought it, I'll be fine staying with it. But if there's a keyboard that has come out in the past few years that blows all competition out the water, feel free to let me know.

I wouldn't mind a board with nice LED lighting behind the keys. I love the tactile feel of the keys, it's satisfying. I also like the macro buttons to the left of the keyboard, though I'll admit I have rarely ever used them. I've only ever made use of one to record gameplay clips, instead of the current keybinding which is Alt+F10. So pretty much a mechanical keyboard, with LED backlighting, that doesn't go overboard with the amount of macro buttons / profile options it has. I'm willing to spend up to $150 on a new keeb. I feel like I've given this one a good run for it's money. Thanks for taking the time to reply with that and offer to help, I appreciate it.

I feel sad, guys. As much as people LOVE to poo poo on the Corsair keyboards because of it's non-standard bottom row, it's actually a culmination of all the things I was looking for in my next mechanical daily driver: 1. Floating / Low profile 2. Metal-ish build 3. RGB 4. Numpad (work from home a lot and my job needs it) 5. Volume wheel Absolutely none of the enthusiast keyboards have all of these so I caved in and got a Corsair K70 Lux RGB. Shiny keycaps and exceptionally lovely font? No problem, I went ahead and ordered the new Vortex translucent PBT keycaps and it even has all the non-standard keys packed in. It's really too bad that Corsair writes really lovely firmware and software for their keyboards. It turns out that the K70 Lux has a pretty bad USB conflict with my mobo's USB controller. Anything that polls USB devices straight up crashes when the issue happens. (usually happens whenever you plug or unplug another USB peripheral) There's also multiple reports out there so it isn't just me. Everything points to the keyboard as completely disconnecting it resolves all issues. I've also tried every workaround available to prevent it from happening, but nothing works. Corsair is investigating and hopefully puts out a firmware update in the future since this issue is similar to what happened to their older models that was fixed via firmware. The alternative is setting the keyboard's polling rate back to the BIOS setting whenever it happens or just straight up unplug and re-plug the keyboard. It's not really something I want to deal with so I returned the keyboard today and going back to my G710+. I might pick it up again if Corsair actually develops a firmware fix. Another alternative is getting a separate but compatible internal PCI-E USB controller, but Corsair can't even pinpoint which chipsets are incompatible so I'm not gonna bother. I also hate having to justify the purchase every time it comes up but, yeah: Price - People say the gamer-y keyboards are overpriced, and yeah I agree if you live in the US. However, if you're in Canada, the keyboards from gaming companies with the same featureset are actually priced less than the more recommended options. The more recommended options like Ducky, WASD, Filco, iKBC etc. can cost quite a bit more due to having to get it from the US/China and the lovely Canadian peso + customs/brokerage fees. Although Ducky and CoolerMaster boards are more available in Canada and can be found for around the same or cheaper, but again, doesn't fulfill my requirements. Volume wheel - It's just something that I've always had considering my old daily driver keyboards from years past were that Dell keyboard with the volume wheel, the lovely Saitek Eclipse with the volume wheel, Logitech G115 with the volume wheel and finally the Logitech G710+ with the volume wheel. It's something that I'll have to give up eventually and I'll probably have to wean myself off of it when I'll force myself to use the K-Type as my daily driver when it gets here next year. It kinda sucks since I really did enjoy using the K70 and it had all the things I actually wanted. It's not a total loss since I still have the G710+, a K-Type coming in 6 months and an Anne Pro coming to gently caress around with for an HTPC. Though I'm not sure what I'm going to do with these Vortex PBT keycaps now, so I might just put them on the G710+ and call it a day.

Loopoo posted:Is the K70 a solid purchase option then? The one part that I found confusing were the different coloured keys, red, blue and brown. I don't fully understand what the difference between them is. Those are the different switch types that surebet mentioned. As for the K70, it honestly would've been the perfect keyboard for me. I can only recommend it under the following: 1. You are not experiencing the USB controller issues I was having. 2. You're fully aware that getting replacement keycaps for it is going to be quite a pain in the rear end due to the non-standard bottom row (CTRL, Win key and spacebar are all non-standard) As for the issue I'm having, it's been brought up a couple of times since the keyboard's been out in a number of forums. I've tried all workarounds (literally tried everything I've come across and can think of) and I've concluded that nothing would really help other than trying other USB controllers or motherboards (no chance in hell) and seeing which ones won't have this issue. If anyone's interested: http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167509 http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168442 http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?p=899462 http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=165416&highlight=steam https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/5wbzbj/steam_freezes_when_i_plug_in_any_usb_device/ So yeah, I suggest going with a retailer you can easily do returns with, and once you get it, test and see if you have the same issues. If you're not that picky, the Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro and Ducky Shine keyboards have a lot less complaints. Constellation I fucked around with this message at 02:13 on Jun 11, 2017 |

reference ansi: k70: bottom row is indeed all kinds of fucky, although for my money the only option for caps replacement on a full rgb board are translucent ones: http://www.maxkeyboard.com/max-104-105-87-88-key-cherry-mx-black-translucent-keycap-set.html (they have a k70 compatible, 6.5u spacebar version of the kit) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz6y7DhcMUM you can find a k70 in big box electronics stores, might make sense to purchase through one of those after doing a price match with the lowest online price. you might pay a bit more or have to eat taxes, but a longer, more tolerant return window might make sense here.
