Last night's Daily Show interview was very annoying. John Della Volpe and Jon Stewart going back and forth on why Gen Z feels so disaffected by today's political landscape, and whether or not the challenges that generation faces are unique. I'm sitting here like guys I know that you know the answers to this. It's hypercapitalism working exactly as intended, you know that because they tell you at every possible opportunity (which they admitted), and the big fuckin' mystery as to how to make them feel good about politics is one they answered in the interview- maybe perhaps politicians could consider policies that make a real, immediate positive change in their lives. Like how politics in a sane society functions. Of course that would steer too close to the systemic change required under MLK's idea of economic racial equality and by God that's the last thing we can do in this country.

Failing to appear when summoned is impeding the pursuit of justice at the national level. It is putting yourself above the structures and processes created in order to ensure that governance of the nation is kept to a high standard, and threats to that are smothered.

You can't create an injunction without enjoining something, any more than you can create a conjunction without conjoining something.

Look just because somebody has been constantly doing his best to overthrow America's democratic institutions for the better part of a decade, indirectly leading to a number of fatalities through violent "counter-protests" and insurrections, doesn't mean he should receive maximum first time offender penalties. Let's discount it by a third or so, to leave headroom for the really serious contempt offenders.

If expressing disappointment that a founding member of a major alt-right news and opinion website, who also served as Trump's chief political strategist, defied a Congressional hearing to appear at his hearing and was in contempt of Congress for being a collaborator in Trump's attempt to overturn an election he lost fair and square, makes me a fascist because he has to serve four months of a prison sentence that has a maximum of six while people get locked up away for far far less and for longer periods, then please enlighten me why four months imprisonment and a two hundred fifty thousand dollar fine is an appropriate sentence and of what change it will bring.

I would admittedly like Bannon imprisoned for far longer than this, but reasonably I think the state having the power to imprison people for long periods of time without proving beyond a reasonable doubt that they committed a crime which merits that sentence... is probably not great. Just like I think some motherfuckers definitely deserve to die for committing certain crimes, and yet I'm 100% against the death penalty. It shouldn't be an option just because I would really like it applied in some cases.

Criticize the state for not going after a more serious crime that would have netted a longer sentence if you must, but in this specific case (not the totality of Bannon's life) I feel like the administration of justice was reasonable.

“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.“

Bannon’s an ingroup and you are arguing that he need not be bound by the law.

Pretty conservative.

The judge who issued the sentence wrote a couple of dozen pages based on the law and argument from both Bannon’s attorneys and the prosecutors. It justifies exactly why Bannon received the sentence he did. Bannon then appealed that and argued it again to the appeals court and they refused his justifications.

Sounds like your opinion is that the well established and very clearly described process that everyone else is subject to is, in this case, grossly unfair.

Fine, that’s your opinion and you are free to agitate for reduced sentences but don’t position yourself like some kind of holier than thou evangelical to all us heathen non believers when you haven’t even attempted to address the copious record and are just whining on internet.

did you know that it's possible for laws to be insufficient? in fact, just because something is legal doesn't mean it's morally correct! things like slavery and torture and even murder are legal in many cases. is it fascist to think that those things are wrong even if they're legal?

Bringing up the "eating that guys brain while he's still alive" scene is probably an adrenochrome dog whistle, allowing the fascist audience to imagine that Biden is undermining "border security" to help the (((adrenochrome junkies))) get their fix.

And the law of projection suggests that Trump has himself tasted human flesh, and thinks that's so cool he wants to brag about it but he understands that it must be kept secret. Like when he rapes porn stars.
