Because Quaid expects him to be, and if it's taking place in Quaid's head, well...there you go. Perfectly reasonable explanation that doesn't necessarily mean that he's in the real world. That same guy literally tells you the plot of the rest of the movie, so...there you go. Maybe it's just coincidence. Maybe. Of course if the guy is one of Cohaegen's stooges, he knows about Quaid's former life as Howser and could be accurately predicting what would happen... quote:One minute, you're the savior of the rebel cause; next thing you know, you'll be Cohaagen's bosom buddy. You'll even have fantasies about alien civilizations - as you requested - but in the end, back on Earth, you'll be lobotomized! Total Recall is super great because it really does have 3 different, almost equally valid interpretations and it owns. Megaman's Jockstrap fucked around with this message at 00:39 on Nov 5, 2015 |

I love that someone is asking that because me and friend had a full on fight when we were kids over this subject. Mainly because he said it was all a dream and I argued it could be either way that's the while point. (Worse thing is I do think it's all a fantasy.)

What's up with that scene in Suspiria where she first meets everyone in the dance school and they're all money hungry as hell?

Hat Thoughts posted:What's up with that scene in Suspiria where she first meets everyone in the dance school and they're all money hungry as hell? Suspria isn't exactly a straightforward class narrative, but at least part of what's wrong with the corrupting and consuming witch cult that runs a ballet school is that they're the rotting remnants of feudal aristocracy lingering into an ugly stage of capitalism. They're a bunch of catty, aspirational bitches, and what they aspire to is becoming inner circle witches/rich people. The lead and her one friend just really like to dance. Plus that's a real standard of the boarding school sub genre, although Suspiria kind of forgets it was setting up that kind of teen drama stuff because the plot is so tenuously woven.

This has been bugging me for ages- what's the name of that technique you see TV directors use to show two people talking, where you repeatedly loop between closeup of speaker A, closeup of speaker B, wide shot to establish both people in context, repeat?

Why is the "Grease" theme song so anachronistic? The movie is a 50s homage, including all the music, except for the 70s, disco-lite theme. Seems such an odd choice.

Because the film is a campy pastiche and at no point attempts to mask its artifice.

They needed an original song to qualify for Oscars. (Though I think "You're the One That I Want" is also new to the movie.) It's also a nice transition- it's a 70s song about the 50s mood, so the whole title sequence is "prepare yourself for some Fifties".

Grease is merely an inferior version of Hairspray! or Cry-Baby, and Travolta would've torn the loving house down in a John Waters film.

The Hairspray musical movie is really fun and Travolta is good in it. It's a broad performance but you're following loving Divine, of course you have to make it broad.

I just got around to watching my bluray of Conan: The Barbarian and noticed there are several shots that were not in the VHS or DVD versions of the film. The bluray case doesn't mention it being a directors cut or extended edition. According to wikipedia, the region A bluray is a 131 minute cut that was original for the extended DVD. The region B bluray has a 121 minute cut. Is the ps4 region-free? could I order a European bluray online and just watch that one?

A couple years ago I was looking for a good blue version of Conan and there are like 4 versions floating around. Some fan site was putting together a master version, forgot to check back if they finished. Things like the color tinting of the day for night shots, etc are changed. I love my director's cut dvd though. Got it as a dual disc with Conan the Destroyer.

I finally caught Source Code a little earlier this year and noticed that Duncan Jones again used the song "The One and Only" by Chesney Hawkes just like in his previous film MOON (hopefully he puts it in Warcraft somehow). Do any other directors have songs like this that they use in every (or almost every) film?

Scorsese put Gimme Shelter in Goodfellas, Departed and Casino, and a bunch of other Rolling Stones songs throughout the rest of his films.
