So, I was there at the One Piece museum, listening to a recording of Oda (and reading the subtitles), and he says, "I like to use a lot of colors when I draw. The children love the colors." Which is when it finally dawned on me that One Piece's biggest target audience is children. And then I watch this: or worse: I understand this is Japan, where a quarter of the population smokes and people walk around reading erotic magazines in public. But I want to be able to expect more from a children's show. These characters no longer even have human form anymore. And Japanese girls already suffer from enough inferiority issues. Let alone the smoking. Who in their right mind would let someone smoke in their non-smoker body?

Not always an evil scientist, just often (he also voiced Mayuri in Bleach). But he voiced Freeza in DBZ/DBK to break the evil scientist mold.

So for any fellow UK goons who are fans of One piece, it looks like the Funi dub is finally getting a Region 2 release at the end of May which I'm gonna attribute to those of us who bought Pirate Warriors because why not. I mean, I already bought a lot of One piece from the US, but hopefully there are a lot of One piece fans out there who haven't and will snap these up.

When Oda does stuff like that he doesn't spend more than maybe one panel making a joke out of it, like Sanji being in Nami's body. But holy crap does the anime team just make it ten times worse. Like I remember when the anime team used to get One Piece really well and just knocked it out of the park consistently with even filler being pretty awesome. Now it's just really weird and nothing at all like it used to be. I can't even chalk it up to this one issue either, there's just so many things that bothers me about how the anime was being done past Sabaody Archipelago that I don't look forward to watching it anymore.

Yeah the filler totally sucks now, what with the mini mini giant and alpacachino.

It does if you put more emphasis on Luffy's progress because he was getting his rear end kicked by a no name chump, and ignoring his Observation Haki that let him dodge pacifistas but not these guys, until he got a one time powerup. Which ruins the reason they trained for 2 years when they make the Hody Jones fight much closer and do what I just described.

http://www.funimation.com/rojas/blog/one-piece-to-join-toonami-block-starting-may-18/7611279 One Piece on Toonami, starting May 18 with episode 207, "Great Adventure at Long Ring Long Land" at 1:00am. That's a bit after the DVD release of Season 4, Voyage 5 on May 14, which is basically the Sea Train stuff.

That's a weird place to start since aside from half the Davey Back stuff that's a big ol' stretch of filler episodes. Not a particularly good group either since it's two groups of Foxy filler and the memory thief arc. I guess the memory thief arc could be used as a really lovely recap, but I remember really hating that particular filler arc.

Really? That's a shame, I'm a big fan of Kokoro no Chizu and would have liked to see what they would have done with it. That said, I can't wait for some new dubbed One Piece! I like the dub and love hearing the voices they cast for new characters. And I like the work Patrick Seitz did for Franky in Unlimited Adventure, so I'm looking forward to seeing him in the anime, if he stays cast in that role.

Seitz is still Franky, I'm not huge on his voice but ultimately it doesn't bother me since they've only dubbed up to parts where he's still a "villain" character and the fact that he was literally made with his Japanese VA in mind.

Yeah, the latter part is most important. I'm really glad that Seitz is doing his own thing with Franky rather than trying at all to imitate Kazuki Yao, which nobody in the world would be able to do well. I haven't seen the anime eps, but Seitz captured a lot of what I like about Franky in his own way in the game, so I'll stay optimistic til I see the later episodes. I'm wondering about CP9's voices too. Kaku was in the game too and he was fine, but Lucci was harder to hear and judge.

I got my wish quicker than I imagined, thanks! I definitely like Lucci's voice. That Franky scene is such a tease though, right after the dance intro! Seeing those old clips from the anime make me miss how good this series was though. It might be the same paced now as it was then, I have no idea, but it feels like it went faster and was a lil better animated/drawn back then.

The pacing was better back then because they did two chapters worth of content per episode. They switched to doing one chapter per episode around midway through Thriller Bark, with filler being stuff like taking a single panel joke and stretching it out, or reusing/expanding on stupid stuff like Brooks drinking milk to heal himself or that repeat of the "Human Docking System" during the fight with Oars. I have no idea why this would make the animation worse than before, though. I'd look through the credits to compare who was directing this series before and who's directing it now, but I'm lazy.

Just an FYI to everyone someone finally subbed Film Z. It's a HD Korean rip that had hardcoded subs in Korean but someone finally subbed it in English and put the two files together. I dunno the policy of linking fansubs here but if it's cool I'll edit with a link.

I posted the Episode of Nami subs a while back and that was fine; Funimation doesn't have the rights to Film Z. I mean, there are rumors that they do and it would make sense, but they only officially have Alabasta and Strong World and it wouldn't come out until next year at the earliest anyway.

The subs are like a 4/10 quality. Full of grammar errors and it doesn't translate some things. It also makes the story a bit weird if its translated correctly. Also the video flickers a lot near the middle. Other than that it's fine.
