I caught the first episode of the new Geordie Shore the other night and I really don't know how I feel about it. It's poo poo, trashy and dirt cheap but everyone in it is actually kind of alright apart from Ricci (pronounced Ricky) and lemon faced Charlotte.
Really? Charlotte was one of the better ones I think. Gaz and Vicky are both truly awful human beings in comparison

You're right: I really like Charlotte. The lemon faced one I meant to say was Rebecca. Always scowling at nothng at all. I've only seen that one episode but I thought Vicky was OK when she wasn't tashing on. Maybe I'll have to keep watching and see.

I haven't seen it recently but from what I watched Vicky was a completely unreasonable, anger-issues headfuck. Basically every time she got drunk she'd go mental

Yeah, Vicky was absolutely terrible last time I watched and her off/on fuckbuddy was just as bad. Everyone else was all right, really. Now if you'll excuse me, I just saw a banging lad and I'm well mortal so I gotta do a slut drop before tashing on cause right now I'm game as a badger. It's gonna be a belter.

It's terrible (if you hadn't guessed by the title). Embarrassingly bad.

I clicked that just to read the title and automatically tried to play it. That's the first time I've been thankful for the "are you over 16?" checkbox. It sounds actually awful:

Did anyone watch Blackout last night? It's a 3 part drama where Christopher Ecclestone plays an alcoholic who's menaced by a police inspector (Andrew Scott aka Moriarty from the new Sherlock) after he might have killed a man in a blackout.

gently caress me that Richard II really was amazing. It's all I can talk about since I saw it last night. I have to watch Shakespeare with subtitles to follow the language, but that almost makes it better.

Also extra enjoyable if you have been playing Crusader Kings 2 recently. :v:

That plot officially erases everything that I liked about the show. I'll spend the rest of my life trying to forgive myself for recommending it to a friend.

Just finished watching it on iPlayer, and I enjoyed it, but it's very uninspired. Even a casual watcher can break it down to its constituent parts. Ecclestone plays the late-ecclestonian tormented family man, and Andrew Scott wheels out his weirdo childlike bastard again. The plot and direction also feels secondhand, and utterly, painfully American. The idea of all this angst over local politics and the kind of corruption you find in Private Eye's Rotten Burroughs is hilarious. The direction is also familiar, with its sledgehammer colour palettes and harsh lighting which leaves everything but one sides of the actor's face in darkness. The frequent shot of an eagle's view of a city, swooping down alleys lined with skyscrapers sent me straight back to my days of playing Max Payne.
But hey, I like Ecclestone, Scott, and American telly so why am I complaining. I've also got to give credit for not falling into set-porn. All this on-location filming in nice houses and nicer town halls, and they managed to resist ogling it over much

I quite in enjoyed the whole series, so I might be a bit more generous than others, but the last few episodes were really good, and the end was really well done.

Anyone heard much about Line of Duty? Some people seem to really think it's fantastic, comparing it to the Wire, which is a pretty big statement.

Second episode finished a moment ago, and I think it's pretty fantastic. It's a fair bit more hurried along and 'twisty' than the Wire but yeah I can see the comparisons. Beautifully shot and well scored too, between this and Blackout the beeb's doing a nice job at the moment. Certainly LoD is staying as strong as the Shadow Line last year.

Not British TV, but still continental--Braquo is a brilliant French series that I'm digging as thoroughly as the Shield, which its getting a lot of comparisons to. Gritty, ugly, violent, with great performances and cinematography.

After a few early slow ones, they've been consistently brilliant. They've finished for now which is a shame.

If you havne't watched then yhey are all free though http://www.comedy.co.uk/podcasts/richard_herring_lst_podcast/

I agree with those recommendations. AIOTM (aiotm) is much more out and out funny, while the other one is just funny/interesting conversations.

The highlight of As It Occurs To Me is definitely the Andrew Collins meta drama.

A sad day, Erik Sykes has died at 89.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18704263

I'll probably watch the inevitable episode or two of Sykes they show in tribute. I wonder how it will have aged, I vaguely remember seeing them and being amused as a young lad.

-----

24 had a strong first couple of seasons imho but it tailed away pretty badly. Amusingly the only time it was decent again was after it had been cancelled in (I think) series 8 and they must have decided wth and just let him go nuts for the last half of the season.

Edit: Edited so the 24 stuff didn't come first and to make it more readable.
