I think the problem is it's so obliterated they can't get video footage of the disaster out easily.

Let me tell you about true luxury.

I honestly feel like, given my experiences there a few years ago and seeing economic and population decline, that it will either take a decade or two to recover to close to their current level or it never will and will just linger in slow decline. Those are the options. It seemed like one in four hotels was closed when I went and there was a malaise over people leaving for the mainland and better opportunity. Now this? My guess is once things start improving people will take that as a chance to leave rather rebuild in many cases and that is unsustainable.

I am also concerned about their special natural qualities like the state of their protected forests and in particular what happened to their bioluminescent bay. If anyone finds information on that please post it.

This is a bad post. Oprah has done a lot of good things. Including uplifting black women and supporting them in the entertainment industry to get more media produced by us out.

I'm sorry that your dad has a bad memory (which is probably twisted and contorted by time) of the one time he was at the set. Filming 5 out of 7 days is loving exhausting. Everybody blows up eventually. She probably had a bad day. Hell, I've even snapped at my cinematogs and production crew after filming 18 hours straight. It happens and it's stressful.

For what it's worth, I work in the industry and have heard almost nothing but good things. She is a control freak, but most creative people are.

I'll back this up, I've worked with her twice and she was great to work with. Second time was a few months later and she squinted for a second but remembered my name which is loving crazy to me considering I do news and don't appear on any call sheet. Her people are difficult and made me drink a lot later but she was great!

I don't get why they think insurance companies would even WANT to do this. What, are California insurers actually going to give the same rates to NY applicants or something? What is this supposed to fix?

To put this into perspective, there are currently about 50,000 coal miners in the United States. Even at peak production there were only ~800k.

it lets one state abolish all regulations and then states can sell insurance from that state in other states

basically, it's a backdoor way to abolish state regulation of insurance

The idea is that states with less regulation that offer poo poo-tier health plans for poors, will be able to offer those plans in states with better regulations, I think

They assume that insurance companies would all move to whatever state has the most relaxed laws and just get away with murder. Same way that all credit card companies are from delaware or South Dakota

Target just announced that it will raise the minimum wage for all employees to $11 per hour in October and slowly raise it to $15 an hour by 2020.

The new minimum wage will be uniform across all stores and not determined by COL.

It will also not support its trade association's, The National Retail Federation, efforts to lobby against minimum-wage increases at the national or local level.
