Oh, I already know I'm not getting the day off, at least not automatically. I'm taking the day off to go skiing, and I'm wondering what to expect in terms of crowds. There's supposed to be a lot of new snow over the weekend though, so it'll probably be crowded regardless.

My question: how is it that India influenced the cuisine of Uganda? They do samosas and chapati and even call them as such, but then combine them with a cardamom-spiced versions of what could easily be mistaken for southern US comfort food (beans, rice, spinach with meat seasoning, beef stews, etc.) Was there some kind of colonial influence or other contact that facilitated this? It just seems so far away geographically (and culturally) but then you have this.

This link explains it in more detail http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsion_of_Asians_from_Uganda

but basically during the British Empire many Indians took jobs in British colonies in Africa including Uganda. They settled there and enough of them went that they became a sizable minority within the country. Many built up businesses, mainly tailors or banking and after the British Empire ended many Ugandans felt that the Indians had stolen their wealth and a period of Indophobia set in. This culminated in Idi Amin expelling all Indians from Uganda in 1972. They were given 90 days to leave and the bulk fled to Britain where they still live now.
I guess the Ugandans Indophobia didn't extend to delicious Indian food though.

ASK ME ABOUT DEFRAUDING GOONS WITH HOT DOGS AND HOW I BANNED EPIC HAMCAT

Wraithson posted:

Why do goons not like Ron Paul?

Well, we all tend to dislike former lovers. This is especially so if you stopped seeing each other after they got really disgusting in bed. See, he was dating the entirety of D&D and GBS all at once (the man has the stamina of a moose), and it seems we all found out at the same time that he had also been regularly screwing some kinky weirdos whose STDs we most definitely did not want to share. I guess what I'm saying is, the man has a huge phallus and doesn't care where he puts it.

I suppose I should reveal that I was part of that group. He used to regularly bend me over and hump me while screaming things like, "Ron Paul says the victim of sexual harassment bears responsibility" and "Ron Paul believes that nobody has the right to medical care." That's right, in bed he would talk about himself in the third person. I, and every one of his thousands of goon lovers, just ignored this and thought it was some sort of strange kinky role-playing thing where he was acting comically like a demented, bizarro version of himself.

We ignored it at first because, as I said, he is quite potent. When God created Ron Paul, he reserved all the inches that would have gone into his height and instead put them right into Ron Paul's pants.

Then it got worse. One time I told him to knock it off because he was getting a little rough with me, and he leaned over and whispered in my ear, "Ron Paul says that Martin Luther King Jr. loved to molest young boys." He was drunk that night, so I just let him do his thing and tried to forget about it. The next night, he wasn't drunk, and he threw me down on his yellow bed which he called, "The Gold Standard." He started to unbutton his shirt and remove his pants while saying, in a slow, creepy monotone, "Ron Paul wants you to understand that racism is just human nature, and that's why Ron Paul would have voted against the Civil Rights act of 1964."

I decided at that moment to end things with him, but also decided to wait a day. I wanted one last night with him, as he truly is an incredible lover when he's not manic or drunk. In his refractory period, he lied back and got philosophical, saying, "Ron Paul says that young blacks are either semi-criminal or entirely criminal." He puffed on his cigar, making little smoke rings, and turned to look at me, "Ron Paul says that if you have ever been robbed by a black teenaged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be."

The next day, I waited for the right moment to tell him I was leaving, but an appropriate time didn't come. So I just barged into his bedroom, ready to blurt out some words at him, and found him in the middle of a nine-way goon suckathon. You'd think that while blowing Ron Paul, there would only be enough room for three people, four at the most, but goons are pretty good at puzzles and had figured out a way to fit at least nine goons in there.

I said, suddenly and quite loudly, "Ron Paul, I think we should stop seeing each other." Ron Paul and the goons resembled a squirming ball of snakes, if you've ever seen one. At that moment they enveloped me and pulled me to the yellow bed. All I could see was Ron Paul's tiny head looking down on me, screaming into my face, "RON PAUL SAYS IT IS WRONG TO ABOLISH THE GOLD STANDARD!"

All the goons piled on me, held me down, and branded the word "SOCIALIST" on my back like a tramp stamp. All the while, they kept whispering how they were sorry and that they had to do this to me or Ron Paul will stop loving them.

Ron Paul raped me and goons helped him.

There, I said it. I suppose the stupid/small questions thread is just as good a thread as any in which to reveal this. It feels good to finally write this down.

During the terrible act, he turned me around so he wouldn't have to look at my face. I don't know how much time passed, as I was mentally attempting to go to my special place. At the end, he said, "Ron Paul says that urban blackies play whites like pianos, and white people had better learn how to use guns, for the the animals are coming and I AM TOO!" The sheer force of the power of his ejaculate threw me back into the headboard and knocked me out.

When I woke up, we were alone and he was getting ready for round two. I told him to stop and made the mistake of saying it's criminal for him to continue. The small man was enraged. His penis grew prehensile, grabbed me by my legs and held me upside down while Ron Paul screamed, "Presidential Candidate Ron Paul says the government doesn't have any authority here!"

He punched me with his testicles for a while. After he got bored of this, his penis laid me back down on the bed and patted my forehead like I was a child. I wanted to take advantage of the moment. Like a video game boss, you can only attack Ron Paul when he's still enraged. Ron Paul has many medieval weapons in his house, so I grabbed a Claymore from the wall and lopped off his massive penis in one motion.

There it lay, on the tiled floor, flopping around like a fish out of water. I thought I had won, but the detached penis started to grow. His genital stub also regrew like a lizard tail. The dismembered unit slowly morphed into the shape of a second person: Rand Paul. Ron Paul looked at Rand and then grinned before victimizing his own son/clone in the demented initiation ritual that we all certainly have experienced.

I ran away. I ran away and tried to tell the media, but nobody would listen. At best, they acknowledged Ron Paul's problems but dismissed it, saying, "Yeah, he's pretty hilarious when he gets into that that whole 'role playing himself as an evil racist thing.'" At best, people would acknowledge it, but just treat it like your grandmother's racism, saying, "Oh, dear, she just comes from a different time."

Well, I'm going to go cry in the shower for a while, but I think you understand now why many goons don't like Ron Paul.

We have a whole thread in SA Mart about surveys and focus groups if you want to check there. I assume those sites (which are usually run by some kind of middleman company) play a part in this. Usually they just show you a new commercial or a product idea, then you answer their questionnaire about it to give feedback. I also occasionally get samples of new product lines in the mail to try out and give feedback on.

I don't know how good the data they get actually is though, since they do usually pay you a little for completing a survey and the questions can get pretty tedious.

It's a Lion rampant on red, beneath blue and white stripes so that really points towards Scotland. Wild guess, some kind of Scottish Regiment of the British Armed Forces maybe?

Although the shape isn't very "British military" or "heraldry", so it might be just some trinket.

You're not going to offend anyone with a pin though, it's not like you're in some 18th Century noble court.

Thanks for the information! That's actually a great coincidence, since my grandfather was Scottish. ...could potentially be why it was that particular gift, hmm.

Not really. Half the nobles in Europe liked to bung a lion rampant into their heraldry to look boss, the Scots one is red or gold, and blue-and-white's a common colour scheme. White-on-blue saltire would likeliest be Scotland, true, but bendy doesn't really tell you anything.

My guess would be it's a souvenir of some city or other, but I've no idea which. It's been years since my heraldry nut days.

I'm not an expert on this by any means, but it appears that a lot of the bigger companies use surveys.

I've done surveys for a few years and they typically pay 50 cents - 1 dollar for either surveys on your purchasing habits or on product evaluations. Sometimes you get stuff to try out.

I've gotten trial toothpastes, toothbrushes, breakfast foods, paper towels, some microwavable dinner meals, a few trials of soda.

This might or might not go in e/n but it isn't worth making a thread. Long story short I met a lady on Facebook, she lives in Australia but came to the US on vacation. Before I met her she used to flirt with me hard, telling me that she thought I was really hot and that if she was 13 years younger she would snatch me up. She is 13 years older than me and has a 17 year old kid. Other than being the same religion, we have nothing in common. But she keeps on telling me that she wants to meet me, also call me and email me all the time. I was initially weirded out by all this attention, this is new to me I usually don't meet people I meet online in person.

Anyways she comes 2 weeks ago I take her to my local church she meets a friend of mine and his wife and they connect. I assumed we were gonna hang out in the evening but she went home with them and stayed over at their house for the night since she was gonna be home by herself over the weekend. Also she lives pretty far from me, it is a 1 1/2 hour trip because of the time of day and traffic.

So I haven't heard from her in 2 1/2 weeks. She didn't answer my calls or texts. I am not trying to get in a relationship with her or anything but why would she just break off contact?
